Edinburgh Meet-up

Rosy - as requested, here is a new thread for an Edinburgh meet-up.

(You need to go into "Topics", choose a subject area - in this case "Other subjects", go down to the bottom of the list and there you'll find the option to "Create New Conversation".)

July 28 sounds OK with me. We've still not planned our holidays yet, but we're not likely to be away at that time (what's the point of going at peak season until you're forced to by school terms!).

Sorry to be a bit thick- but if coming from Glasgow is the hotel before the zoo? Is it well signed?

JanZ · 10/08/2002 22:32

Sorry Sammac - only jusr picked up your message. I normally access the internet at work - but was just checking tonight from home (actually on the internet to check the times of trains!). Now a bit late to make contact, so I'll just plan on going across by train. If you do see this, if you have two car seats, then I could maybe come back with you (as I'll be going to Bardowie anyway for dinner with my parents - meeting dh there). If not, I'll have bought a return anyway.

I'll take a risk and put my mobile number on here - 07770 926834, just in case you are on the internet this late!

JanZ
Sorry didn't catch you last night.
I'd love to give you a lift back - I'm only minutes from Bardowie- Torrance in fact. However I don't have any extra car seats- only the one which I'll be using. So sorry aaaghhhh! If you can think of something else let me know.
My no. 07940427375.

salalex · 11/08/2002 09:27

Oh Sorry!!!! I can't come! I'm choked with cold, youngest dd infested with nits, husband doesn't want to drive, he won't give me keys to decent car and my old scraper is, well, just that! Don't feel I can subject dds to 3 hours on the train after they had a 10 hour marathon back from Cardiff yesterday. Really sorry and v. disappointed. Have a lovely day, sniff. xxx

susanmt · 11/08/2002 15:54

Also havent come as you probably noticed. Just out of hospital with yet another kidney stone (like, a couple of hours ago) - hope you had a great time !!!!!
love
Susan

Mima · 11/08/2002 21:52

AAAAAAAAAaaaagggggggghhhhhhh. I cannot believe I have missed this. I have just logged in after being away abroad for six weeks. And I have been in the house all day with two kids and its raining and hubbie is away on business so could have been there today if only I had logged in this morning. And you were meeting only 10 minutes from my house!!

salalex · 12/08/2002 09:18

So how was it then????? is there a media black out on this event?! What happened? Please tell me, I'm so sorry i couldn't come and meet you

JanZ · 12/08/2002 09:58

Well, only 4 of us made it (Tigerfeet, who had kindly made the arrangements, Rosy, Sammac and me) - but still had a good time.

I was a bit apprehensive when 11 o'clock came and went and I was still the only one - but then Rosy turned up, followed by Sammac and finally Tigerfeet. It was interesting to meet the "real" people as opposed to our virtual personae.

Ds had a great time in the Play Area for over 2 hours (I'm a dreadful mum - as long as I couldn't hear him crying, I assumed he was OK). By the end he was exhausted - he slept most of the way back to Glasgow on the train! He and Sammac's 8 month old ds were the only children there, except for a short time at the end when Tigerfeet's ds made a guest appearance (what a lovely sunny wee boy!)

We're planning on another meet-up sometime near Christmas - next time probably in the evening and "sans enfants". Hopefully those of you who weren't able to make it this time will be able to come along next time.

Sorry - I'd meant to add the following couple of messages:

Susanmt - I hope you're feeling better after your latest kidney stone problem and salalex - I hope your cold is getting better, dd is becoming nit-less and h is in a more reasonable mood. How did the valuation go?

I'd been looking forward to meeting you both - and Loobie too - but these things happen. Maybe you'll be able to make a Christmas do (although I realise that susanmt is normally a bit far away!)

Mima - it's a shame you logged on too late - but again, maybe next time!

We had a lovely time yesterday- I look forward to the next time. It's nice to think of the faces now to the names.
Thanks JanZ, Tigerfeet and Rosy!

Janeway · 12/08/2002 20:21

Oopps, only just found this thread - been a mumsnetter for just a couple of weeks now and am Edinburgh based. Would love to hear of any planned re-staging of sunday's get together. ds (5 months) is very sociable and loves meeting other wee ones should an "avec enfants" do be on the cards.

I'll try and keep a better eye out in future.

WideWebWitch · 12/08/2002 20:46

Janeway, sad Voyager fan that I am, love your name! (assuming it is in homage to Katherine

bossykate · 12/08/2002 21:56

www & janeway, have spotted it also! think my saddest sci-fi moment on mumsnet was when i knew "na'toth" was (a fairly minor) character from b5!

JanZ · 13/08/2002 08:31

Sorry you missed it Janeway! (BTW - I too wondered if your name was related to Voyager, as I too am a sad fan of all sorts of sci fi. Bring back B5!).

At the momet, our idea is to have another get-together closer to Christmas. It would probably be in the evening and without the kids - it wouldn't be too late, since the Glasgow based amongst us would need to get the last train back! There again, we would still need to check what the majority of the people who want to come along want to do/are able to do!

Christmas time and anytime would suit fine.

BTW, Janeway was given to me by the guys I work with as a handle (I think that's the term) when we went to Laserquest for one of our student's leaving doo - apparently the Voyager captain & I have something in common when it comes to management techniques and general demeanour - I think it was meant as a compliment

bossykate · 13/08/2002 19:46

can i feel a sci-fi thread coming on? must go and lie down in a darkened room until feeling better!

maddysmummy · 08/05/2004 00:52
