Edinburgh Meet-up

Rosy - as requested, here is a new thread for an Edinburgh meet-up.

(You need to go into "Topics", choose a subject area - in this case "Other subjects", go down to the bottom of the list and there you'll find the option to "Create New Conversation".)

July 28 sounds OK with me. We've still not planned our holidays yet, but we're not likely to be away at that time (what's the point of going at peak season until you're forced to by school terms!).

Wow I dont think I have walked from Haymarket to the zoo since I was a very skint student and we got some free zoo tickets - we walked from Dalkeith Road to the zoo for a laugh and then spent all afterneeon at the zoo lying in the grass in the sunshine!

Sounds great! What time suite everyone? I will be coming through on the bus or train from Perth so am pretty flexible!

JanZ · 26/07/2002 16:28

I think it looks like a bus or taxi for me. Will any bus going West from Haymarket go along Corstorphine Road? I presume I get off once I've gone past the zoo or when I've seen the pram centre.

I really want to come on the 11th but events have taken a turn for the worse and H has said he will no longer babysit (ha, ha) for our dds while I go out with my mates! So I could bring them I suppose, but would rather not, much as I love them etc, etc!
Loobie - on your own with Ds's??? Hope you are OK
Susanmt, sorry, i'm not an old school mate I'm afraid! I've lived here for 5 1/2 years but come from the east Midlands -via various other places. How come you will be going to the bash from Perth? If I go we could perhaps travel together? I'll be the one at the station with a rolled up copy of the Independent under my arm!
Will let you know asap.

susanmt · 28/07/2002 06:42

Salalex, I can't speak for everyone but I would far rather you came with your girls than not at all! It looks as if I will be bringing mine with me too, as ds is still breastfed. I might leave dd with her grsndparents.
I'm coming from Perth as I will be staying with my folks for a few days. We could easily travel together if you want. I'll get the train if I dont have to go via Stirling and change, cos thats an absolute hassle with kiddies who will probably be asleep by then! If there's no direct train I'll get the bus.
Where in Perth are you? I'll be coming in from Balbeggie where my parents are (although we lived in Perth when I was at home - but I left home 15 yrs ago now so we've probably never met unless inadvertantly at the swimming pool!)
Looking forward to it. When are we going to meet up?

Loobie · 28/07/2002 21:57

salalex dont worry about bringing the girls with you, i am bringing my two boys -yes because im on my own with them, will fill you in when we meet, show H that you dont need him to 'babysit the kids' you can cope just fine on your own with them.

JanZ · 29/07/2002 08:52

If there are going to be so many other kids there, I may bring along ds. I could always come along early and take him in to the zoo beforehand for a treat. He's also never been on a train (unless you count one stop on a suburban train, in his buggy when he was much younger), so that would be a new experience for him (although not perhaps the best way for ME to relax!). How old are the other kids? Ds will be 23 months in 2 weeks time.

OP posts:
susanmt · 29/07/2002 12:58

OOOOH the zoo, that's an idea, dd loves it!
Katherine is 2 1/2, Aidan is 6 months.

Harrysmum · 29/07/2002 16:38

Agenda sounds good and it's always nice to see other people's children! I am really hoping that I won't have ds with me as it will mean that dh isn't working that weekend and has him to himself for the first time ever!!! And I'll be 135 miles away - hooray! All fingers crossed please (is he in the only job where the employer thinks that it's reasonable to say here's the post, here's your start date, we won't tell you until you arrive what your rota is going to be (and you may be on nights from that night so should just go home again) or the banding for your post so you don't know what your salary will be until your first pay slip??? Only in the NHS ...) Rant over; really looking forward to this.

Loobie · 29/07/2002 21:21

my ds's are 4 and 6 years and will be coming with me, if agenda is definately on for 11 aug do we have a time?

susanmt · 29/07/2002 22:18

A time would be good for me to know as we are off on holiday wednesday

JanZ · 30/07/2002 09:45

What about 1 pm at Agenda? That gives the Hen Nighters plenty of time to recover and those of us travelling, time to get to Edinburgh (and if we're really organised, maybe time for a quick trip into the zoo).

At the moment I think it is 6 adults: Loobie, Harrysmum, Rosy, Tigerfeet, Susanmt and me, plus 4 mobile kids: Loobie's 2, Susanmt's one (for numbers, I'm not counting your b/f son) and my ds. Anyone else going to be bringing kids?

Salalex - as kids now seem to be included, do you think you'll be able to make it?

If I can get confirmation of the numbers, I'll give Agenda a call - unless you want to do it Tigerfeet, as I seem to recall you knew the manager?!

Loobie · 30/07/2002 15:18

1 pm sounds fine to me.Does this place have a kids menu for our darling little cherubs?

JanZ · 30/07/2002 16:45

I've no idea if it does a children's menu - maybe someone who has been there (Rosy or Tigerfeet?) can tell us. As it has an indoor soft play area (according to its web site) then I would imagine it does. I can ask when I ring to book.

OP posts:
Rosy · 30/07/2002 20:44

Yes, it does have a children's menu, but quite nice things, not just fish fingers etc. When we were last there dd ate sausages in gravy with mash, and ice cream to follow. I've now marked the date on the calendar in pen, so it's definite. How will we recognise each other? Do you think we need to contact you beforehand Janz? Maybe you could sit at one of the tables out front wearing a purple hat or something so that we could identify you!

susanmt · 30/07/2002 23:07

1 pm is great for me. You'll recognise me - I'm the tall overweight one with a kid in a backpack and one in a buggy! Probably perspiring freely from lugging them around! I am toying with the lazy idea of getting a taxi from the station!
Looking forward to seeing you all!

JanZ · 31/07/2002 09:23

I too am thinking of getting a taxi from the station - especially if the weather continues to play up (although hopefully, East Coast will be drier than West Coast). If it's anything like yesterday, we'll need a boat to get there!

When I contact the hotel, I'll ask for their suggestion as to the best place to arrange to meet. I suspect it will be the table closest to the soft play area!

Dreamer - you're welcome to come if you're up in Edinburgh then!

I'll also e-mail Tech and ask him to pass on my e-mail address to you. If you then contact me, I can give you my mobile number, in case of problems.

Loobie · 31/07/2002 10:50

well i have just made a huge boo boo and have allowed myself to be booked up for a shift at work starting at 3pm on this day,i just realised last night when i looked at the calendar to find out exactly when 11 aug was and found i had a shift written in so it looks like i wont be able to come after all,i was so looking forward to coming and meeting everyone too, sorry hope you all have a great day.

JanZ · 31/07/2002 11:01

Loobie - if we started earlier, would you be able to come along for part of the time? Or would it be too much hassle with your ds1?

OP posts:
Loobie · 31/07/2002 11:03

it would have to be between ten and eleven for me to make it as it takes about an hour to get to edinburgh from my house so i would have to be leaving about 1 pm to get home in time for work.

JanZ · 31/07/2002 11:21

What do the others think? Are they able/prepared to make it earlier? It means an early start for me - but that's not a big deal as dh will be getting up early to go up to his golf club, so I'd just get up with him.

We could always go to the zoo afterwards rather than before, if there is time - I need to be back in Glasgow for 7ish anyway (regular Sunday night dinner at my parents)

OP posts:
JanZ · 01/08/2002 10:45

Rosy, Susanmt, Tigerfeet, Harrysmum - any comments regarding the time? Do we bring it forward or leave it at 1pm?

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 01/08/2002 11:00

I'm happy to fit in with whatever time suits everyone else. Dh will have ds and I'm not planning too drunken a night with the other hens. We must think of how we are going to recognise one another. T-shirts with our nicknames printed on them perhaps!!! I (or my dh) will speak to Scott and warn him!! once we have approximate numbers and a time.

I've only just returned to this thread as ds just out of Sick Kids with viral gastritis and low blood sugar. Nightmare but on the mend now fingers-crossed.

Rosy · 01/08/2002 11:37

Any time's fine with me. I live quite close to Haymarket, so I'll just be getting the bus along the road. There are plenty of buses that run from outside the station to Corstorphine by the way, and alot of them you can wheel a pram onto as well. I feel I always have to put forward the case for public transport!

JanZ · 01/08/2002 12:01

OK then - Loobie, if we meet at 11, would that be OK with you? That way, we can have a chat (and a drink!) before lunch and the kids can tire themselves out in the soft play area. We can then just play things by ear.

Apart from suggesting that we meet by the soft play area, I'm not sure how we should identify ourselves. I suppose I could describe what I'll be wearing - but with the weather the way it's been, I'd probably change my mind! Looks wise I'm pretty average - medium height (5' 4" ), short reddish hair, medium-ish weight (not overweight, but not as slim as I'd like to be!). Ds is the one that's striking - big dark brown eyes (his daddy's eyes).

I'm sure we could just book a table in the name of "Mumsnet" - so when we arrive, that's all we need to ask for.

OP posts:
Harrysmum · 01/08/2002 12:15

11am is fine for me; certainly won't be hungover from the hen night since I'll be 18 wks by then!
