Edinburgh Meet-up

Rosy - as requested, here is a new thread for an Edinburgh meet-up.

(You need to go into "Topics", choose a subject area - in this case "Other subjects", go down to the bottom of the list and there you'll find the option to "Create New Conversation".)

July 28 sounds OK with me. We've still not planned our holidays yet, but we're not likely to be away at that time (what's the point of going at peak season until you're forced to by school terms!).

OK then - 11 it is. No news from Salalex yet, but at the moment it is 6 adults plus 4 kids requiring fed (as opposed to breast milk!).

BTW - any of the other Scottish based Mumsnetters interested? (Dreamer too, if you're going to be up here). Totally understand though if you want to maintain your anonymity or simply can't make it.

Loobie · 01/08/2002 13:41

yeh ok 11 is fine i can make that,i'll be the very pregnant looking one with two little boys with me,one having very blonde hair and glasses and the other having very litte hair, see you all there.

TigerFeet · 01/08/2002 14:53

I will speak to Scott tonight then and get back to you. Table for Mumsnet 6 adults and 4 children near the play area if poss.

JanZ · 01/08/2002 15:31

11 on the 11th - that has a nice ring to it! And there will be 11 of us (counting susanmt's ds). But others are still welcome!

Thanks Tigerfeet for making the booking.

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 01/08/2002 19:25

I've just spoken to Scott and he suggested that 11 wasn't the best time to get a table as the hotel will be full (festival) and just finishing breakfast but we can certainly meet around that time for a drink, children in soft play and then as soon as he can accommodate us we will be seated (11.30-12ish). Is this ok? You say 11 for numbers - what is the adult/child split? 6/5?

SueDonim · 01/08/2002 19:29

Although I'm now living abroad, I just wanted to wish you all a happy 'meet-up'. I'll be thinking of you!

Sue (formerly of Aberdeenshire)

Tigger2 · 01/08/2002 21:35

When is the meet up and where, I'm in the South West of Scotland, nose bothering me here as I might be able to make it if I'm allowed!!

sammac · 01/08/2002 21:51

Is it too late to add my name to the meeting? I'm in Glasgow 'burbs and would love to meet up with other mumsnnetters.

salalex · 01/08/2002 22:33

JanZ, Looks like I can make it so it'll be me plus 2 Dds. I'll be the tall one with the hair I will have tried to straighten, but failed with one dark haired d and another v. loud fair haired one! Think 11 will be an OK time for me. Susuanmt -will probably be coming with husband in car,but if not will write and let you know about trains - or tell me which one you're going on, just in case.
My brain has disappeared temporarily - is it still Agenda??
Loobie - hope you can make it for a bit, looking forward to meeting you and everybody else.

JanZ · 02/08/2002 08:45

It's at Agenda (formerly Alphabet Hotel) which is on Corstorphine Road after the pram centre on the right going out to the airport - after the zoo. If you need better instructions, one of the Edinburgh people will need to answer, as I've never been there! (We're a trusting lot in Mumsnet). Meeting at 11 in bar (?) area/near soft play area and getting a table at 11.30/12-ish

Tigerfeet - numbers were 6 adults, 4 mobile kids (ranging in age from 23 months to 6 years) and one babe in arms (6 months).

If Sammac, Salalex and Tigger2 can make it, that increases the adults to 9 and the kids by at least 2.

Tigger2 and Sammac, can you confirm if you can make it and if so, whether you'll be bringing kids (and how many). Sammac - I too am from Glasgow (Pollokshields) and will be going across by train (make it a wee adventure for ds) - we could travel together if you wanted.

Salalex - given the crises of last night, are you still going to be coming along - and with the girls?

Suedonim - thanks for the thought! We never did manage to meet up before you left!

OP posts:
sammac · 02/08/2002 18:36

JanZ
I'm trying to work out the travel - will probably have to drive to get there on time as there is limited public transport from here. Don't know if I'll have kiddiwinkles or not. Will get it sorted over the weekend and let you know.

susanmt · 02/08/2002 23:04

Sounds good to me!
My ds is 6 months old and he will need a high chair as well as breastfed - will that be ok/possible?
Looking forward to seeing you all there,
love
Susan

JanZ · 05/08/2002 10:34

Tigger2 - is your nose going to bring you to Edinburgh next Sunday?

At the moment, I thing the numbers are 8 adults (including Sammac and Salalex), 6 kids requiring food, one babe in arms requiring high chair (and boob!). By my calculation, 3 high chairs will be needed (the 2 approx 2 year olds and the 6 month old) - although at a push, my ds can now sit at a table (but I'd rather have him constrained!), and I assume susanmt's dd is the same. Tigerfeet - can you check that Agenda can still accomodate us, with the numbers creeping up.

Salalex - I think from your previous posting, you'd said you were coming AFTER the really bad problems started with your h, so I am assuming you are coming. Please confirm if you are able to! (I hope so!)

Tigger2 - I haven't included you yet in the numbers - so if you are coming, let us know soon!

OP posts:
salalex · 05/08/2002 15:14

JanZ, I'm coming!!!!!! Me and 2 dds. 11 o'clock, Agenda, 92, St. John's road - yes? Any landmarks I should look out for so i know i'm getting near and don't drive past? Looking forward to it.
Incidentally, my Dds DO NOT YET KNOW mummy and daddy are separating! Hopefully we'll have more interesting things to talk about! Must get back to work.

salalex · 05/08/2002 15:15

oops, sorry, just read your bit on directions!

TigerFeet · 05/08/2002 20:25

I have just phoned Agenda and booked a table in the restaurant under Mumsnet for 16 (9 adults, 6 children and 1 baby - 3 high chairs) at 11.30am on Sunday 11 August. We will be able to meet in the bar at 11am - children are allowed there.

Oh, I just had a thought. I booked a non-smoking table. Assume that's ok what with bringing children/babies. If people want it changed just let me know!

JanZ · 07/08/2002 08:34

Thanks Tigerfeet. No smoking is fine by me. Look forward to meeting you all on Sunday.

bee · 07/08/2002 14:44

Edinburgh mums - can you recommend a good hotel (maybe about 60-70 a night) - I'm coming up on business but need to book my own stuff. My meeting the next day is near the corner of Princes St and Lothina Road so somewhere there would be nice. Thanks everyone

TigerFeet · 08/08/2002 10:49

There is a Travel Inn on Morrison Street or the Apex Hotel on Haymarket Terrace.

Harrysmum · 08/08/2002 11:14

Having been looking forward to Sunday hugely I think that I'm going to have to pull out. Dh is working 8am to 10pm Fri, Sat and Sun; parents (Edinburgh based) have just moved house this week and don't have any furniture in yet as they have been decorating all week and plan to furnish at the weekend so can't stay there/have them babysit ds. No hen night either. Oh well. At least dh has the same annual leave as me in September which means that with a whole fortnight off, including the weekends at either side, this will be the longest holiday that we have had together in four years. Enjoy and tell me all about it!!

bee · 08/08/2002 11:25

Thanks Tigerfeet. Have booked the Apex, which lookds great. Can't wait to have a whole evening to myself, dinner anywhere I fancy, and someone else foots the bill!

JanZ · 08/08/2002 15:40

Sorry you can't make it Harrysmum - but I'm sure there will be a "next time"! Looking forward to meeting everyone else.

Willow2 · 09/08/2002 10:55

Hope you all have a fab time - and if you're interested in helping with my research for a Times article on Mumsnet get-togethers there will still be time to mail me next week. Anyone who wants to should mail Mumnset at contactus@mumsnet and ask for your email to be forwarded to me! Anyway, articles shmarticles, have a brilliant day.

sammac · 09/08/2002 20:44

Am def coming on Sunday with ds- 8 months. Dd will be staying home with dh, which means, Janz, I have room in my car for 3- is this any use to you. If so, let me know. Happy to pick you up in Glasgow- although not very good with south side. Sorry I've taken so long to get organised but I've had a chaotic week.
