GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 06/10/2012 19:17

Married you don't REALLY have to go to your DH's works dinner dance do you? [Gron]

AlphabetiSpaghetti · 06/10/2012 19:20

big I just requested to join the fb group! Grin

Although I have lurked and recognise all your nn I have never been brave enough before. I'm a bit scared tbh!!!

AlphabetiSpaghetti · 06/10/2012 19:27

Yey! Wine

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 19:32

Harrogate is truly lovely. And I think would fulfill all your requirements - although it depends what you mean when you say a bit of culture. I have no idea what the cultural side of Harrogate is. Leeds has the Playhouse, which does some fab stuff, and the Grand Theatre, as well as the art gallery - but then it's easy to get into Leeds from Harrogate.

The only thing to consider is where you want to get a train to. I think I'm right in saying that direct trains from Harrogate to London are few and far between - you have to get a train into Leeds first, I think (or possibly York?), whereas trains from Leeds and York to London are frequent and fast. In the case of York, super fast.

marriedinwhite · 06/10/2012 19:45

This BIWI is why I'm wondering about Adel and Alwoodly because for at least 10-15 years DH will still be based in London professionally but working from "home" when he can. DH also hates driving. I can't rationalise it but I just don't like York - I find it stifling.

Getorf regrettably I do have to go to the other party effing boring dinner dance have done for the last 23 years (this will be the 24th [horror emoticon].

I will think of you all and snort a bit as I greet earnest 20 and 30 somethings and wonder if they can imagine me meeting up with a bunch of hairy armed nutters off the internet Grin.

Next time Sad.

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 20:18

Biwi (getting back on to thread subject here) - does one have to have paid and everything to get on the Dec 1st meetup fb group? And are you in charge with your big stick?

BellaVita · 06/10/2012 20:27

How was your "big" birthday do Mintyy?

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 20:32

Aww thank you for remembering Bella Grin. Well, there have been 3 separate "dos" so far and one more to come, and when that is over I shall feel well and truly over the hump. It has been like the Queen's jubilee here I tell ya!

PrincessSymbian · 06/10/2012 20:36

I would really love to come, but do I really have to join a Facebook group in order to be able to?

BellaVita · 06/10/2012 20:43

God, wait till you start approaching the next big one like me... I won't be having any "do's" Grin. i will just want to fade into the back ground.

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 20:49

Bella - I am quietly confident that I am older than you and that the BIG one we have been discussing is the one I have just had Grin. I tried to ignore it but it wouldn't go away! In the end I got harrassed/bullied into celebrating with all sorts of different people (but am glad I did).

Pagwatch · 06/10/2012 20:53

Ahem.

I am fucking fifty. Anything under that is a mere slip of a thing...

BellaVita · 06/10/2012 20:53

Mintyy really? I thought the big four 0 had paid a visit to you?

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 20:54

Indeed, and are you not on the cusp of 51 my duck?

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 20:54

Mintyy - I'm not in charge - don't think anyone has got as far as talking about money! I just happen to be an admin for the FB group.

No-one has to join the FB group, although that is where we will share info like venue, photos, etc.

BellaVita · 06/10/2012 20:54

Pag, for such a demure looking woman, I am Shock that the word fucking has come out of your mouth Grin.

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 20:55

No twas the one that begins with a five Wink.

BellaVita · 06/10/2012 20:58

Shock. I stand corrected Grin

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 21:00

(Biwi - this is the point where you say you have never seen a younger looking 50 year old so full of joie de vivre and hilarious wittiness etc after our mini meetup with dear Stealthy and co. in Farringdon).

So ... will you invite me on to the Christmas do one?

Pagwatch · 06/10/2012 21:01

Yep. Staring down the barrel of 51. Ah well...

Sorry Bella

marriedinwhite · 06/10/2012 21:01

five is very very good. Is becoming a memory Sad. Oddly it wasn't the elderly on the sofas - we were on our feet and running up and down the stairs having learnt to pace ourselves. Grin

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 21:05

Mintyy. You really, really don't look as if you're 50. If you'd told me you were having your 40th, I would have believed you.

If you let me know what FB name you want to use, I'll add you to the group! (Just in case you don't want to use your real name)

married - North Leeds would probably suit you better; but it doesn't have to be Adel/Alwoodley - some lovely villages just to the North, like East Keswick, or Wike. Having said that, it's years since I actually lived there.

Mintyy · 06/10/2012 21:09

Oh tosh Biwi you are just saying that Grin.

Hmm, why would I not want to use my rl name? I can't see the danger in it from a group of mumsnetters. Will have a little think.
