Week 7 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - 2 weeks to go ...

Morning!

Spreadsheet, as usual

For those of you that are left - as it seems a fair few have disappeared! - still time to drop at least a couple of pounds before we finish.

It's a tough time of the year, I know, to be thinking about dieting and weight loss, with all the temptations around. But it's still over 3 weeks before Christmas, so try to be as mindful as you can about what you're eating and drinking.

There will be another Bootcamp, starting on 1 January. It will be short and sharp - i.e. it will run only till 31 January, but it will be a dry one. (If anyone wants to set up and run a more conventional Bootcamp, you're more than welcome!). There will be a sign-up thread coming shortly.

Good luck for the coming week Flowers

#No Probs. sorted.

@FinallyHere i seem to have messed up the calculations for some of my cells on the spreadsheet. Could you check mine please 🙏 You’ll notice my week 3 loss is rather impressive/alarming 🙄

Edited to add that although there might be another swing up, I’m hoping to see the next number down by the end of Bootcamp 🤞

Delicious quick standby supper of cabbage friend in oil and butter with onion and chorizo tonight. Lunch was salad of lettuce, avocado, anchovies and olives. Funny mixture but finishing up leftovers. Definitely eating less. Pleased with my 1lb loss. It seems to be slow but in the right direction. 150lb is the lowest I've been for a very long time and I think 140lb by my birthday in early March now seems an achievable goal. I went swimming the last two days which always helps. I am not sure how I'm going to navigate the next few days though. Lunch out at a fish restaurant with friends on Friday should be ok, I plan to swerve the bread with starters no chips obvs and keep wine to a minimum. I need to save myself for DH 'early birthday party' on Saturday. (another 'real' one with family next Saturday!) A friend is making venison cannelloni for the party which will be amazing but will definitely blow LCBC on Saturday. Long drive south on Monday to see DM and family so need to prepare properly for travelling with some LC snacks.

Does anyone have any genius breakfast ideas?

I don't eat meat and am getting sick of eggs and FFGY

I know I need to eat protein in the morning, even though am never hungry, as it helps stop my massive energy crash and snacking temptation later on.

Any ideas welcome thanks x

prettybird · 05/12/2024 09:32

Highly stressful night last night thanks to my BB (bastard brother) who isn't respecting the boundaries I had clearly stated via the executor. Good news is that I didn't fall face first into chocolates (or toffees, of which there are loads as I filled the advent calendar with them on Saturday) Grin but dh and I did open and demolish Blush a bottle of Chardonnay to accompany the delicious cauliflower cheese.

Avocado and Keto bread? I’ve never made the bread before (think people call it cloud bread or something similar) but I’ve heard good things from the threads.

Bex5490 · 05/12/2024 09:52

Weighed this morning and I’m 10 stone 13lb!!!

Im so happy to see the 10 - first time I’ve been under 11 since 2nd baby!

Im 5ft 9 so my goal weight is 10 stone 7lb and I feel like with January boot camp, I’ve got a real chance of hitting it!!

Chuffed to bits so thank you @BIWI. 🙏🏽

BIWI · 05/12/2024 09:54

@WinterSunshineBright no need to treat breakfast as a different kind of meal - just eat something you'd normally eat at lunch or dinner! Leftovers from dinner would work too.

Finally got to work early enough to try out the scales this month.

These are fancy scales so I am able to share with you that overall weight 300g down, while fat is 600g down and muscles 200g up

I'm a long term LCHF on a very slow but sustainable downward curve, so this is very much a win I'm pleased to take. Still hanging in the upper quartile of my healthy BMI, hoping at some point to sink to the middle.

CrystalTits · 05/12/2024 13:23

Well done everyone, it's great to see all this progress and so motivating! I'm definitely in for the January BC for more of the same. Birthday weekend ahead but I'm keen to stay in the loser club :) so will be staying on plan with perhaps just a tiny slice of cake!
I've also just bought a big tub of white miso paste and although I know it's a bit carby I'm finding it's helping as a lunch option or evening snack, with a bit of sliced spring onion and a couple of cubes of silken tofu chucked in.

SemmaLina · 05/12/2024 13:27

hallo again , I’ve been away and come back with a souvenir of 3 lbs that I’d previously lost
Off to see Wicked this afternoon , so I’ll catch up later
Just a quick placemarker

This is a good point! 👍👍

@WinterSunshineBright I'm a big fan of avocado with kimchi or sauerkraut for breakfast. For protein, I'm wondering about nut butters. I know peanut is carby but almond butter is less so I think. And I find just a little satisfies that protein craving. And I bet there are keto versions.
Or how about a Brazil nut or two. I might be off message here but they are a much lesser evil in an emergency.

Love avocado. But the season is definitely passed 😢

I've seen a good loss that I'm hoping to hang onto over the weekend, but my period is due so I expect it might be another wobbly week.

I've been thrilled that hunger is just so much lower. More days than not I'm not bothered by having breakfast. This is new territory for me!

somanylights · 08/12/2024 02:43

Morning all, hope everyone's having a good weekend! Could I please be a pest and ask if someone would be able to link to the cheese tart recipe that's been spoken about before (I've had no luck searching for it)? Has anyone ever made it as mini tarts? I was wondering if the base holds together well or if it's too crumbly? Thank you so much!

BIWI · 08/12/2024 10:48

Here you go @somanylights:

Bacon, Shallot and Gruyere Tart (if you want a vegetarian version, leave the bacon out and add more shallots)
serves 6

For the pastry:
225g ground almonds
55g butter, diced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg white

For the filling:
25g butter and a splash of oil (this stops the butter burning)
100g smoked lardons (or diced smoked streaky bacon)
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped (or use a garlic crusher)
150g shallots, thinly sliced (this will be 3-4 echalion shallots)
2 eggs + 2 egg yolks (the white from one of these is used in the base)
dried oregano
100g Gruyere cheese, grated
300ml double cream
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method:
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/GM4

To make the pastry, mix the almonds, butter, egg white and salt until it forms a dough. This is easiest done in a food processor. Keep processing it until it starts to come together into a ball.

Press the dough with your hand/fingers into a 20cm flan tin or dish. Push the pastry up the sides of the tin as well. There is quite a lot of filling, so it's important to get the pastry as far up the sides as you can.

Prick the base of the flan all over and bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until set and golden brown. (It's better if it's cooked longer, as it hardens up a little more - just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't burn)

While the dough is cooking, sauté the shallots, garlic and lardons/bacon in the butter and oil, till soft. Season with salt and pepper and about a teaspoon of dried oregano. Leave to cool.

Next, whisk the eggs and yolks, and then gradually add whisk in the cream. Add black pepper and whisk again.

Tip the shallots and bacon into the flan case and add the cheese, then pour over the egg and cream mixture. (It's a good idea to put the flan tin onto a baking tray, as it is likely to be very full, and this makes it easier to get into the oven without spilling anything)

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and just set. Serve warm or cold.

27.35g carbs for the whole lot. If you serve 6 people, this will be 4.6g per person.

I think this would work well as individual tarts as well.

That is wonderful, thank you @BIWI!

BIWI · 08/12/2024 12:24

Just think about the cooking time if you're doing individual ones - especially the pre-baking of the pastry cases - they may not need as long.

Can I ask about the 3/4 week plateau please? Do you need to do anything to wiggle out of it? Or just keep no carbing? Feel I might be at this point and want to lose a bit more before Xmas! 😬

BIWI · 08/12/2024 15:26

It doesn't seem to affect everyone @WinterSunshineBright - although I have no idea why!

Why not stick with strict Bootcamp for those weeks, rather than relaxing into Bootcamp Light? That ought to help.

That said, you're not on the spreadsheet, so I don't know how much you have to lose - bear in mind that the nearer you are to your target, the slower the loss will be anyway.

I'm about to start the final week's chat thread now, rather than tomorrow morning, as we're off to stay with some friends, and I have no idea what time I'll be around/online in the morning.

Ah weird - probably because I changed my name? Will change back for the next week! Am number 49.

BIWI · 08/12/2024 15:34

Ah yes - found you! I think the name-change messed up the alphabetisation.
