Week 3 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp: Full, Light or Hybrid?

BIWI · 04/11/2024 07:46

Morning all.

To repeat my warning about week 3 (and possibly 4):

... just a word of warning for those of you new to low carbing (and a reminder to those who aren't!) - weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss. Sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

As long as you know you've been sticking to the rules, DON'T PANIC! This is very normal and we see it every Bootcamp (which has been going for 12 years now). KOKO and things will get going again.

From next week you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light, which will allow you to reintroduce (some) fruit, nuts and seeds, chocolate and alcohol. All in moderation, of course! And all should be low carb choices - i.e. berries rather than grapes or bananas, almonds rather than cashews, 70% minimum cocoa chocolate and dry wines and clear spirits rather than cider or lager.

Bearing in mind the advance warning about next week, you may decide to stay on Bootcamp if you wish - entirely up to you, as long as you really are including plenty of veg and salad in your menus. Or, you could consider a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Here's the spreadsheet

Good luck all who sail in week 3! Flowers

Thanks for all the inspiration and ideas! The cheese crackers sound nice. Reminded me I'd bought a big bag of "cheesies" but. It opened them... they weren't as nice as I remembered but something different at least!
Also tried cream cheese mixed with some almond (and a little peanut) butter and then frozen - these are nice at home but I don't think travel well to the office, but maybe I'll try again.

Re: treats, I don't think anyone's mentioned it but there's also low carb chocolate mousse as the ultimate treat ... keep meaning to try it.

I've found another benefit to this WOE - I have a lot less wind, even with all the cabbage I'm eating! Wonder if I've developed a bit of a gluten intolerance? Anyway, I much prefer the less trumpy me! 😆

That sounds good - i guess it's just eggs and dark chocolate- but wonder what's the sugar replacement?

Am going to attempt cloud bread making today. Will let you know how I get on.

prettybird · 09/11/2024 09:13

I was under 13st this morning Smile - down to 12st 13.75lb Grin

Fingers crossed I maintain at least that (or even lose a bit more Wink) by Monday.

Dinner out tonight at Sarti's, our favourite Italian restaurant. Ds is paying and we're meeting his girlfriend's parents and her brother for the first time Shock

Sarti's is usually pretty good at swapping for greens rather than potatoes, so I'll be ok. Just have to not be tempted by their fabulous pizzas.

prettybird · 09/11/2024 09:16

@NoCarbsForMe - the residual sugar in the dark chocolate is enough, no need for added sugar.

There are a couple of chocolate mouse recipes in the Desserts recipe thread. Orange and cardamom chocolate pots are a favourite of ours.

ReconstructionSite · 09/11/2024 09:21

Thank you everyone for the treat suggestions but also the thoughtful comments of the power of staying focused on the "prize". I think that is something I struggle with given it is a long game. Managed to avoid alcohol on a theatre trip last night, when normally I would have had a pre- or interval drink, and the scales have rewarded me this morning 😇

I'm planning on doing sushi next weekend.
Does anyone know or can anyone recommend a low carb alternative to sticky rice?

Will blitzed cauliflower work? Maybe with some egg?

Any advice gratefully received. TIA

StuntNun · 09/11/2024 11:54

I love this chocolate mousse recipe that's just dark chocolate, eggs and butter. I top it with a few fresh raspberries and whipped cream. The carbs in the chocolate do add up though so I usually halve the quantity in the recipe to make small portions.

Wow just got my period a few days ago snd for the first time a years I didn't feel horrendous in the buildup to it and have had no pain. Incredible.

Sadly wasn't overly impressed by the cloud 'bread' - it was like a flat eggy soufflé ... could have made the whites a bit bigger i think. Pic for your amusement 😂🙈

(Feeling a bit bored of eggs now too if I'm honest)

Maintained this WoE at dinner out last night although I suspect there was flour in the sauce Had extra green beans I stead of the massed potato. Resisted the focaccia for the table and everyone except dh and me had dessert, which I also resisted.

I did share a bottle of wine with ds' girlfriend and dh also had a glass to help me from myself Wink That will explain why my weight is up again this morning Blush So, lots of water today and fingers crossed for tomorrow Grin

If you're looking for a good low carb bread, I can recommend this company

The sliced bread is very good, and they make good wraps too. It's not cheap, but it's a great occasional thing to have in the freezer.

NB it doesn't really meet Bootcamp rules, as it's quite processed, but as an occasional thing, it's fine. Certainly makes life easier to be able to grab a sandwich every now and then.

Looks like naan bread @NoCarbsForMe

islandtiger · 10/11/2024 13:09

@prettybird I'm doing the same today. Couldn't resist a celebratory glass of rosé yesterday for surviving my third ever parkrun. Or parkshuffle in my case!
But also feeling pleased that bottle has been in the fridge for three weeks and I was just polishing off the dregs. Times have changed. 😇. So yes, lots of water today, and eating main meal early in the hope of still seeing that elusive 10 on the scale again tomorrow. Breakfast was a hard boiled egg, butter and a slice of manchego. Lunch will be chicken and loads of veg. There's football for @Comeonyoublues later so maybe cheese and olives, we'll see. Definitely less hungry generally. Good luck everyone who is weighing in tomorrow, and thanks for all the yummy ideas on this thread 🍫 🍱

There was a recipe for LC naan bread, I remember trying it last year (doesn't taste massively like naan bread though !)

Rayna37 · 10/11/2024 18:25

Just spent 5+ minutes searching screen shots for the easy mayo recipe shared a couple of weeks ago...which I printed out !

Hoping there'll be leftover roast chicken to go with salad for lunch tomorrow.

Maybe you could also try using konjac rice @RockyRogue1001 if the cauli rice doesn’t work out? Was just thinking that if you dry fry it enough it would still have some stickiness, and for once the slight fishiness might actually complement the nori wrap and salmon or tuna filling if you’re going with that?

ReconstructionSite · 10/11/2024 19:11

Just made the slow cooker pork shoulder in coconut milk/garlic/ginger from the Recipes thread. It was absolutely delicious! Served with some lime and coriander cauliflower rice and a bit of white cabbage. Looking forward to leftovers tomorrow already
