Week 3 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp: Full, Light or Hybrid?

BIWI · 04/11/2024 07:46

Morning all.

To repeat my warning about week 3 (and possibly 4):

... just a word of warning for those of you new to low carbing (and a reminder to those who aren't!) - weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss. Sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

As long as you know you've been sticking to the rules, DON'T PANIC! This is very normal and we see it every Bootcamp (which has been going for 12 years now). KOKO and things will get going again.

From next week you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light, which will allow you to reintroduce (some) fruit, nuts and seeds, chocolate and alcohol. All in moderation, of course! And all should be low carb choices - i.e. berries rather than grapes or bananas, almonds rather than cashews, 70% minimum cocoa chocolate and dry wines and clear spirits rather than cider or lager.

Bearing in mind the advance warning about next week, you may decide to stay on Bootcamp if you wish - entirely up to you, as long as you really are including plenty of veg and salad in your menus. Or, you could consider a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Here's the spreadsheet

Good luck all who sail in week 3! Flowers

I have been surprised by a four pound loss! My weight yo yos a bit naturally - I just need the overall track of the graph to be yo yoing downwards. 11 stone 8.

Made a ham last night in pressure cooker so had ham soup with the stock with savoy cabbage and leek for late breakfast and then an egg with a pinch of cheese olive oil scrambled in and a very small portion of a few almonds and a couple of walnut halves. Black coffee and mint tea to drink.

Wolfi3 · 04/11/2024 16:06

Well done everyone on losses, even the small ones are a change for the better and in the right direction!

only week 1 for me, I found it really tough midweek, I need to drink more water but my job isn’t very allowing of the constant toilet breaks I need so need to try and fit water in at the end of very beginning of my day.
But a 4lb loss which I’m really chuffed with, Its taken me just under 200lbs and I’m really keen to stay this side of the 200!!!

I think I’ll probably have to strict with strict boot camp for a few weeks because I am terrible at portion sizes and will probably end up eating more berries/choc/nuts than necessary!

DrBlackbird · 04/11/2024 16:32

I need to keep going with strict boot camp as clothes are no looser as yet. Will be salmon skewers tonight. Was roast chicken, roasted swede and Courgettes last night. Still feeling a bit hungry as it gets to the next meal but resisting snacks.

@NoCarbsForMe try the TrueWeight or Happy Scale app if you want to weigh every day. It uses a running mean to smooth out your progress. Do bear in mind that your weight can fluctuate by up to two pound either way from day to day (more if you experience bloating e.g. on your period) so your weight is only ever going to be a best guess.

@Magnolia82 there are plenty of fibrous low carb vegetables if you feel you need to increase your fibre intake. Swede, cauliflower, cabbage and celeriac are all good. You could consider using almond flour or coconut flour or ground flaxseed in recipes for low carb bread if you really need more fibre. We do tend to eat a lot more vegetables on this way of eating though so fibre intake isn't usually a problem. Definitely don't reduce your calories any lower than 1200 as that's a killer for weight loss. If anything, you might need to increase your calorie intake and/or increase your fat intake by around a tablespoon of oil per day since you're already at a healthy weight.

I've added the Ottolenghi roasted tomato and aubergine dish that I have mentioned before on boot camp threads. It really is yummy and very satisfying.

Oo that's funny just had a parmigiana earlier for dinner, love it. Will check out the YO version thanks ☺️🍆

Breakfast was LFGY with vanilla essence
Lunch was tuna n olive salad with the hunter gatherer avo mayo, cucumber and a bit of avo.
Drinking more water now & making sure I don't snack.

Def sticking with full bootcamp this week 🥾

Thanks @StuntNun will check out the app. I totally get that it's never linear progression. I just really get bothered by it. Silly I know 🙄

Fairnair · 04/11/2024 19:59

Hi everyone, hope you have all had a good day.

Breakfast: FFGY & some FFNY (full fat natural yoghurt), as there was not a lot of FFGY in the tub and the other yoghurt had to be used today plus some mixed frozen berries, did weigh them as it is easy to go over aboard with them (defrosted) with a tiny bit of the vanilla bean extract.

Lunch: 2 large eggs scrambled in the microwave with butter and a bit of cream, with some bacon lardons cooked in airfryer (hob has a big crack in it, so not safe to use, & not worth replacing as we are hoping to redo the kitchen next year). Green salad & a couple of cherry tomatoes with some advocado oil (it is very nice, a bit expensive but makes a change from olive oil).

Tea/Dinner: Beef curry cooked in instant pot with sliced green cabbage & spinach (both frozen & heated up in microwave) as a change to cauliflower rice.

Water quite good, 2 x 800ml containers of tap water plus 3 x 200ml of sparkling water, so that is 2,200 ml plus several cups of black coffee (cut out milk & sugar/sweetener in coffee about five years ago).

Sorry for the essay x.

Has anyone tried cloud bread?

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cloud-bread

Fairnair · 04/11/2024 20:08

Have tried cloud bread a while ago @NoCarbsForMe , it’s ok, but I found it a bit eggy, which is fine but if you are already eating a lot of eggs, it can be a bit much.

Does anyone have a low carb recipe suitable for a bread machine? My husband bought me a compact Lakeland one a few months ago, & I have only used it twice using a bread mix (not low carb), but would be a good opportunity to make my own low carb bread. I do find lunches the most difficult meal, have been mainly having protein with a salad, but I am starting to get a little fed up it. Trying to keep meals as varied as possible, as more likely to stick with the low carb way of eating long term.

RockyRogue1001 · 04/11/2024 20:22

Well done to those who've lost this week
And we'll done to those who are KOKO even if they're disappointed.

Thank you to the person who suggested the 'dirty' celeriac fries
They were amazing.

Had them with peppered pork.
Delicious 😋

Fairnair · 04/11/2024 20:25

Thanks @NoCarbsForMe, I have looked at some bread mixes on Amazon, but not sure if they are suitable for bread maker or not. I have bought a few new keto cookbooks (Kindle versions), and there are some bread recipes, but don’t give instructions for bread maker.

LCagain · 04/11/2024 20:54

This LC bread is lovely!

1.5 off this week which I wasn't totally expecting. Hoping for a week 5 whoosh once we've got weeks 3 & 4 out the way.

BIWI · 05/11/2024 09:49

Are you unhappy with that @CleanQueen123?

Can I just check - is chia seed as low carb as it seems? I love it hydrated then mixed with HFGY and some vanilla, but too good to be true?

Well Sainsbury's are showing them as 8.6g per 100g, so that's not especially low - but that said, a serving is only 15g, so that's only 1.3g.

A quick note on the spreadsheet

I've noticed that quite a few people signed up but haven't entered anything on the spreadsheet. That's fine, obviously, but it does make reading it less easy, so any of those names are now hidden. (I haven't deleted anyone).
