Feb '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 5 (and I'm off!)

Morning all!

My last day before jetting off to sunnier climes. I'm leaving you in the more than capable hands of @prettybird

As ever, here's the spreadsheet

The challenge for this week - should you choose to accept it Wink - is to create a great low carb dinner party menu. Bonus points for not raiding the recipe section for ideas!

DH and I are great fans of The Great British Menu, and for the last couple or so of series, the starter course has to be vegan - I'd love it if they insisted that one (or more!) of their courses had to be low carb, which inspired this thought.

Look forward to what you come up with Grin

We’re off on holiday today ( first , the long trek to LHR and a Sunday morning flight to Barbados 🏖️)
I will update in advance the spread sheet for the next 2 Mondays as STS , and I’m hoping there won’t be too much excess baggage on the scales on my return !

The food is truly excellent here - but beware the portion sizes! Very generous, often massive. But more than anything else this is such a beautiful place, and the sun is shining 😁

No counselling @PurpleWhirple but I have bought a new summer dress in a 14 that I would have looked stunning in three stones ago. It stalked me around the internet. They only had it that size, it sort of fits now but will be better without the lard.
It's hanging centre stage in my wardrobe, complete with a perfect cardigan. I also have a picture of some one on Instagram, same height, same age wearing it so I know I can rock it.
The weight has really laid on my waist so I've also had a private health check to bench mark and I have a revisit planned for when the bulk has gone.

Whicker · 09/03/2024 14:40

Progress towards items of clothing is always motivating :) Good luck @TheBorderBinLiner .

B two coffees (with milk as we were out of cream and I couldn’t face it black)
L leftover beef stir fry
D later will be steak and green salad.

Ohh now I have Fleetwood Mac tribute band envy @prettybird

@EndlesslyDistracted

Best of all I felt completely full after the Italian meal but not in the least bit bloated.

This for me is the strongest continuing reason to eat low carb high fat. Choosing what I eat according to how I'll feel after I've eaten it has been a revelation for me. It only became possible once I was eating according to bootcamp rules (bootcamp lite at w/end) and had Finally (sic) got off the glucose rollercoaster

Hope those on holiday in lovely places are having a well deserved , splendid time

EndlesslyDistracted · 09/03/2024 15:20

@FinallyHere it doesn't always work for me, sometimes I still feel really unsatisfied / not full / greased out after a LCHF meal but I don't get the bloating and that I definitely would have had after any Italian restaurant meal in the past.

Morning all. I'm having a lazy start and can't be bothered to tackle the laundry pile of doom. I've had poached eggs and avocado on toasted liv life bread, coffee and water so far today.

@AllTheBlackCoffee please share your review of the slc pizza. I've tried fathead pizza but it's too rich and I can't be bothered with cauliflower pizza.

Also @Appalonia what's the cracker brand please?

These are the Waitrose seeded crackers, ( they are in the Free From section, not the crackers section ) and apparently you can buy them in Amazon too.

Enjoy your travels @prettybird and @LilianaVikavanovich, planning a winter trip once DD goes off to uni but a while away so very jealous!!!
Bacon eggs smashed avo yesterday, and a picnic tea which involves lots of carbs - chicken rice, crusty bread, wedges along with dips and charcuterie. I roasted red pepper, tomatoes and red onion and added spinach with nduja at the end and had the charcuterie but swerved all the carbs. Too much wine though so feel like I've been losing and gaining the same lb all week.........trying to stay on track for the rest of the weekend 👃

PurpleWhirple · 09/03/2024 19:03

Thanks for the pep talk @prettybird, I'm not feeling sorry for myself, I'm back on it 💪

Had a slight NSV today. My arse is far too big for a football seat and I've been squeezing it in to a too small space all season. Today I sat in it and felt like there was definitely more room than last time!

prettybird · 09/03/2024 19:43

That's good news @PurpleWhirple - all NSVs count Grin

FinallyHere · 09/03/2024 20:54

That sounds like a lovely NSV @PurpleWhirple

prettybird · 09/03/2024 21:11

This was my supper tonight: duck breasts with celeriac chips and shoogled sprouts Smile

Followed by raspberries and cream.

Who says we're depriving ourselves on this WoE? WinkGrin

Dinner here was roast chicken with roasted celeriac, a few carrots and steamed green beans with a homemade Hollandaise and some wine.

Whicker · 10/03/2024 07:54

A good start to the morning! I’ve absolutely powered through the next half stone barrier with a surprise whoosh. 4.8lbs to go till I am under the next stone. 3 weeks till Easter, which is my target date. It would be the first time almost in a decade that the scales will have started with that number, so fingers crossed.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 10/03/2024 09:34

Well done on your woosh @Whicker your target is definitely doable!

I was out last night and wine was consumed and am also at a family meal today with no control of the food although I will do my absolute best to avoid any obvious carbs. Thankfully my family know I’m not a big sweet eater so I can easily say no to pud but I’m not sure what the main will be.

I’ll go with the flow but I’m not expecting miracles tomorrow.

Whicker · 10/03/2024 10:33

Drinking all the water really helped, @AllTheBlackCoffee . So if you try to super hydrate today, it might limit any damage.

prettybird · 10/03/2024 12:21

That's just what I was coming on to say! Smile

I too consumed wine last night and have rebounded slightly Sad, so I'm drinking lots of water Grin

QforCucumber · 10/03/2024 15:06

Slight slip yesterday as I made some spinach and feta puff pastry rolls for a picnic, and without even thinking ate 3 as they came out of the oven! bugger.

roasting a shoulder of pork for dinner today. The smell from the kitchen is amazing - it roasts in garlic, fennel seeds and a can of cider (do I need to carb count the cider anyone?) having with a Brocolli and cauli gratin and charred courgette slices, and lots of crackling as no one else in the house likes it. Onwards and downwards!

Whicker · 10/03/2024 16:34

Crackling is the best! Your family don’t know what they are missing.

Appalonia · 10/03/2024 17:25

I'm making a chicken and mushroom pie tonight, using pastry made with almond flour, coconut flour, lard and an egg. Never made it before, hope it works out..!

Appalonia · 10/03/2024 17:30

Interesting article on using lard here
