Feb '24 Bootcamp - week 3 - time for a boot up the ...

It feels like there's a lack of focus right now, going by the posts so far today!

Low carbing is not a forgiving way of eating, and while the odd 'lapse' here and there can usually be accommodated, anything more than that really will show on the scales.

The week 2 thread was also suspiciously quiet, which leads me to wonder how many people are still actually Bootcamping?!

So let's re-set things

Forget about last week, and start afresh. Focus on what you're going to cook/eat this week, and make sure it's Bootcamp-compliant. Perhaps consider going back to strict Bootcamp, rather than moving on to Bootcamp Light.

If you're wavering about low carbing, go to the spreadsheet and read some of the resources there, or to a site like https://www.dietdoctor.com/news The Diet Doctor, as a reminder of the benefits of eating like this, beyond weight loss.

Here's the spreadsheet

You don't have to enter your weight if you don't want to - or if you're taking a break from weighing - but it's good to do so for the accountability.

And good luck! We can do this! Flowers

@cathyandclaire I’m a bit further west than Gower , and I think ( from the local weather forecast ) it’s going to be wet , though I think pretty much the whole of the U.K. is getting rain tomorrow, but it has rained pretty much all the last week

I'm down 1.3lb since my last weigh in, which was just over 2 weeks ago (I really struggle to remember to weigh in the mornings with the family chaos!). Very pleased with that given that I have struggled with motivation a bit!

TheOnlyMrsW · 21/02/2024 08:30

Oooh @poorbuthappy our offer holder visit at the weekend was at Cardiff, we missed open day so haven't seen the accommodation or union (I've been for gigs but only in the evening), love the place and really hoping DD puts it first 😊. We went got coffee in the morning at Coffee No 1 on the Friary which was fab - comfy seats and books!!!! Love Fuel as well, DD wants to get a job there if she goes!!!

Generally love south and west Wales so very jealous of the people with holidays even in the wet 🌧️🌧️🌧️

2lb down this morning, currently at my lowest weight in probably 12-13 years, just need to keep it off now. I lied about a quiet week, completely forgot about Leeds Offer holder day today 🤦🤦🤦 but at least that's in the car so easier to control eating and water..........IF until lunch, then will have BC snacks as I seem to remember that the union food is v carby, campfire stew for dinner with pulled pork from the freezer, contents slowly going down so I can start hitting the recipe threads 😊.

Have a good day everyone 😊

NotDonna · 21/02/2024 08:58

@TheOnlyMrsW i really enjoyed doing the open days/offer holders with my middle daughter but avoiding carby food wasn’t easy!
What’s a campfire stew?

QforCucumber · 21/02/2024 10:03

Took your advice @BIWI - woke at 3am desperate for another pint of water, but daily weigh in this morning shows the wine hasn't affected me and a STS as yesterday which will do. No more wine now! ( First time since Xmas we've had a babysitter for a few hours though so was lovely to be out just us 2 grown ups for a little while)

1l water drank, cheesy scrambled eggs for breakfast and a tuna mayo salad with olives for lunch today

AIBConsiderate · 21/02/2024 10:33

Yay I went to Cardiff Uni myself so v happy to see they enjoyed it! Uni is where all my weight issues kicked off 😅, enjoyed it too much.

The weekend weight has finally dropped away. Tonight is the diet doctor's Cabbage Casserole which looks fabulously cheesy.

poorbuthappy · 21/02/2024 11:00

She loves it fair play. Living her best life! We are only 30 mins from Cardiff so I still get to see her loads. Whether she likes it or not 😂

I've just come across this range of low carb pasta

At 3.6g per serving (40g dried, to make a 100g portion) it's amazingly low in carbs. It's not cheap, of course, at £5.99 per pack (each pack = 6 x 40g/100g portions) but could be worth trying if you're in need of a pasta fix!

Low-Carb Penne Pasta

Attention all pasta lovers! Our NEW low-carb pasta is now in stock! Each portion of this pasta is packed with protein and contains just 3.6g of carbs. This pasta will not only keep you feeling full for longer, thanks to its protein power but will keep...

Had a wonderful lunch today at The Buttery (a wonderful old restaurant in what is left of a Victorian tenement building beside the M8 in Glasgow).

Both the starter and the main course I chose off the lunch menu were mostly Boot Camp compliant Halo

Starter of braised pork cheek, celeriac purée, celeriac crisp and pork & cider jus, followed by a fried pigeon breast, roast root gratin, braised red cabbage, parsnip puree & gin flavoured jus.

Dh had Cullen skunk followed by chicken stuffed with haggis.

I'm not a huge pasta person, after low carbing for so long, but that looks like it might be good to have in when comfort food is a must. I've also seen a few things about the Aldi LC pasta but have never personally checked it out.

@prettybird am drooling over your food, and agree it sounds almost BC compliant!

Still holding firm to the food wagon on holiday, today swerving an amazing bakery. DH, who is supposed to be bootcamping with me, caved and had a huge choc and caramel flapjack so I'll have no sympathy when the scales don't play ball.

mimosa1 · 21/02/2024 19:49

Back from
My wonderful holiday but have out in quite a bit of weight. I know why and I'm drawing a line under it and getting back on the wagon...

PurpleWhirple · 21/02/2024 19:59

Ooh that food looks and sounds amazing prettybird

Thanks @LC4life - interview was this morning and went okay I think but will have to wait and see, it'll be a couple of weeks minimum before I hear which is annoying but can't be helped.

I've had a 3.5 lb whoosh overnight which I'm thrilled with after a long stall. Just hope it sticks now as it's got me below 300lbs - just!!

I have a weekend away with friends coming up so will be doing my best to stay compliant. Not had a drink since the last weekend of January so I will need to be careful not to overdo it and fall asleep by 10 🤪

NotDonna · 22/02/2024 00:17

@prettybird Yours sounds yummy; less sure about your DHs choices; skunk???
@AllTheBlackCoffee I bet your DH doesn’t put on an ounce (especially if it’s a one); they just seem to get away with it more.
@PurpleWhirple huge congrats on the whoosh and fingers crossed for the job!

Today started well with bfast of coffee with cream, lunch was leftover seabass and veg, dinner a moussaka. Lots of water. Went to the theatre to see macbeth and had a glass of vino at the interval. A bit annoyed about the wine. Didn’t need it!

We saw Macbeth last night too ( and had wine at the interval!!!) Were you in London ( Dock X) or another production?

I ate out last night too, had a spinach and cheese soufflé with broccoli on the side. I'm sure there was a little hidden flour in it- but it was small and delicious and no damage today.

NotDonna · 22/02/2024 07:53

@cathyandclaire no not London. And unbeknown to us it was a modern adaptation which began with Lady Macbeth expressing breast milk. There was a bit of audience participation and adding ad lib. Was rather bizarre and definitely not helpful for DDs coursework 🤣

prettybird · 22/02/2024 08:50

Bloody autocarrot Shock

Cullen skink , cullen skink Grin

A lovely traditional Scottish soup with smoked haddock but also potatoes, so not one I can have on this WoE

BIWI · 22/02/2024 09:15

Perhaps cullen skunk might be lower carb @prettybird? Grin

Pleaseandthankyou · 22/02/2024 09:23

I love Cullen Skink. Maybe it would work with cream and celeriac.

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/02/2024 09:44

I also love cullen skink (as log as there's no mussells in it a la GBM!!!), might make that at the weekend..........
@prettybird your lunch looks and sounds gorgeous!. @NotDonna I started using this campfire stew recipe from Pinch of Nom but is easily adapted to be BC-compliant. Also it's easy to use different cuts of pork - I've used pork shoulder this time as it was left in the freezer, have used gammon steaks as well https://pinchofnom.com/recipes/campfire-stew/. It's a really easy and comforting dish and also very adaptable and makes loads of leftovers 😊. Leeds was very good yesterday, it unfortunately hasn't helped DD make any decisions and was very down on water so need to catch up today.

Campfire Stew - Pinch Of Nom

Campfire Stew is a tasty, warming, slimming friendly, easy meal for anyone counting calories or following a diet plan like Weight Watchers or similar.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 22/02/2024 10:15

Am LOLing here at Cullen Skunk. I bet you'll have to pop to Waitrose to get the main ingredient for that - won't be finding that in Aldi! Grin

All good here, actually saw 185 on the scales this morning so a new low! Could be due to wine dehydration and not enough water but I'll take it.

Last full day of the hol so we're going to BBQ tonight. We have LC burgers and some lovely looking kebabs from the local butchers and a Greek salad. I've had Greek yog and cream for breakfast and have a SLC roll left which I'll stuff with ham if I need some lunch. Off for a walk into the nearby village now for a coffee and a mooch.

catwithflowers · 22/02/2024 11:25

Am disappointed (in myself) as last night we went to a restaurant that had been on our list for ages but we knew the main course would basically be a carb fest 😬. We decided to have a night off, I had even fasted through the day so I wouldn't feel as guilty. The first course was fab, very Bootcamp-friendly, meats, cheese, pickles. But the main was rather disappointing. All I could think of was I've indulged in all those carbs for something very indifferent which I could have made better myself.

Another super noisy restaurant where I struggled to hear. Everyone else seemed to be loving their food, the reviews are great, but my husband and I both thought the main event was very bland and stodgy. At least it was a decent walk there and back so I got my steps in 🙈. Onwards and upwards. Tonight's dinner out is at a Spanish tapas restaurant, I've checked the menu and there is loads we can eat which is low carb.

I'm having a lovely week away but it will be nice to get home, to sit down and meal plan properly and do a nice Bootcamp shop!

BIWI · 22/02/2024 11:27

It's so disappointing when you go off piste only to find it's not really been worth it @catwithflowers! It does sound, though, as if you did the best you could in the rest of the day.

Hope tonight is better. Tapas is usually a gift for low carbers though (as long as you avoid the obvious things like patatas bravas and croquettas)

I’m off with ds2 today while ds1 is at a football holiday camp thing, it’s been a long time since just ds2 and I and he keeps saying ‘I love mummy and me days’ bless him (he’s not quite 4)

we’ve been to the butchers this morning for a monthly stock up, got some beautiful looking salt and pepper pork belly for lunch lunch today which I’ll air fry and have with coleslaw and a leafy salad.
