Feb '24 Bootcamp - week 3 - time for a boot up the ...

It feels like there's a lack of focus right now, going by the posts so far today!

Low carbing is not a forgiving way of eating, and while the odd 'lapse' here and there can usually be accommodated, anything more than that really will show on the scales.

The week 2 thread was also suspiciously quiet, which leads me to wonder how many people are still actually Bootcamping?!

So let's re-set things

Forget about last week, and start afresh. Focus on what you're going to cook/eat this week, and make sure it's Bootcamp-compliant. Perhaps consider going back to strict Bootcamp, rather than moving on to Bootcamp Light.

If you're wavering about low carbing, go to the spreadsheet and read some of the resources there, or to a site like https://www.dietdoctor.com/news The Diet Doctor, as a reminder of the benefits of eating like this, beyond weight loss.

Here's the spreadsheet

You don't have to enter your weight if you don't want to - or if you're taking a break from weighing - but it's good to do so for the accountability.

And good luck! We can do this! Flowers

@catwithflowers thanks for the reminder. I've got my old Delhia Summer recipe book out and will be having those peppers and tomatoes as a starter tonight.

catwithflowers · 24/02/2024 15:56

@venusandmars And you've inspired me with your turnip gratin 😉

venusandmars · 24/02/2024 16:07

@catwithflowers I forgot to mention that you bake it in the oven!

a side of turnip gratin: thinly sliced swede, cabbage and leeks, lightly sauted in butter. Add whole grain mustard and plenty of grated cheese. Bake in the oven until everything is tender. Delicious.

catwithflowers · 24/02/2024 16:29

@venusandmars Yes I thought so. Thank you. Sounds delicious 😋 On my way to do the food shop now.

BIWI · 24/02/2024 17:35

Roast pork loin here - roasted on a trivet of onion and celery, sprinkled with cracked black pepper, sea salt and fennel seeds, and a sloosh of white wine in the roasting tin. Will serve with tenderstem broccoli and celeriac chips.

Thesoundofmusic23 · 24/02/2024 18:21

Wow that sounds delicious @BIWI - going to tuck that in my back pocket for a future supper.

catwithflowers · 24/02/2024 20:49

@venusandmars I forgot the mustard and added a bit of cream. Such a delicious dish and very filling. Makes a change from celeriac (which I also love) We had it with chicken thighs roasted in olive oil, S&P and garlic

blackteaplease · 25/02/2024 06:47

Is the spreadsheet broken @BIWI? I went to do an early check in and got a message to say permissions had changed and I no longer have access. It wasn't like that last week.

I've STS this week but it's not really a surprise. I'm having a tough time emotionally and I also have my period (even though I have a bloody coil, thats another story).

I'm travelling from Devon to Lanark today for my nanas funeral on Monday then returning on Tuesday. I'm hoping to stick to LC but feel the water may take a hit. Not sure what the food options will be at the wake either.

Goodiewhemper · 25/02/2024 06:59

Morning everyone. It has been a hectic week so I didn't get to check in as much as had planned. Food wise I have been doing well, have been getting lots of steps in, drinking lots of water and finally got under 78kg. Yesterday I found something important that I had lost a few months ago and the relief was enormous. I had a couple of glasses of vino last night to celebrate but then had a dose of the fuckits and put my hand into the sharing bag of M&S truffle crisps that DH was snacking on. I am annoyed with myself but am drawing a line under it and getting back on track today.

I have a roast chicken in the fridge for lunch and dinner this evening will be roast pork. I cook it like you BIWI except I also add a few juniper berries and some sliced apples. DH will eat the roasted apples with his.

I love all the veggie suggestions. I was going to do celeriac mash for dinner but the turnip gratin looks great. The peppers with anchovies will go down a treat in this house. We love anchovies. I often parboil broccoli, then put it in the pan with olive oil, garlic and anchovies to finish it off. DH uses it as a pasta dressing and since BC I have it as a side veg. So delicious.

Hope everyone has a great day today.

@blackteaplease yes, it appears to be 'view only' for some reason! We need @FinallyHere to swoosh in with her superspreadsheet cape on.

Lovely idea to add apples @Goodiewhemper - we have a little tree in our garden that is very prolific, and I've done this before. I've also used the apple in red cabbage too, which was lovely.

@blackteaplease sorry for your loss, that's a hell of a drive, safe travels. @BIWI that pork sounds lovely, I'm always a bit unsure about getting it cooked well so tend to go over and it's dry 😢.
Fairly decent couple of days, one extra advantage to DD working evenings (as well as keeping me sober!) is that I can plan nice BC food rather than our usual carby fare with adjustments 🤣. So Friday was chicken breast wrapped in bacon with roast pepper, courgette and cherry tomatoes, yesterday was pork steaks pan fried in butter with a mushroom/harissa/cream sauce and swede dauphinoise inspired by the gratin talk upthread. Weekends like this make me love BC food 😍.
Marry Me chicken in the slow cooker which will use up the cream and about to have omelette for brunch. Footie this afternoon finally and a quiet evening planning for next week.....have a good Sunday everyone

catwithflowers · 25/02/2024 13:45

Just made a batch of low carb cheese muffins and had one for lunch. A very tasty weekend treat although quite expensive to make when I think that 100g ground almonds and over 150g cheddar went into them. 😳. I ration them carefully though and usually freeze them and take one out when I'm feeling the need of a bread fix.

This evening we are having 'a kind of lasagne'! Basically a beef ragu with full fat mince, the lasagne sheets being replaced by layers of fried aubergine and a layer of wilted spinach and topped with mozzarella and grated Parmesan. With a salad of rocket, fresh spinach, baby tomatoes and cucumber.

@BIWI @AllTheBlackCoffee I've had a look at the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and can't see anything that has changed. Given it a wipe down with a bit of an oily rag, well, good quality duck fat which I happen to have to hand, and hope that is all that is needed.

Please shout if that hasn't fixed it, it was always on the cards that I'd have to give in and read the manual at some point.

Spreadsheet seems okay for me

Wipe down with an oily rag done the trick @FinallyHere! Flowers

cathyandclaire · 25/02/2024 15:10

All working now thanks @FinallyHere. I've weighed in early as not at home tomorrow- STS but just 1lb away from my interim target for my ski holiday next Saturday and my ski pants fit too!

I felt a bit stronger in the gym today and upped all my weights- so that's
also a decent NSV.

Good luck with the weigh ins bootcampers!

FinallyHere · 25/02/2024 15:12

Thank you for confirming it's ok now.

Puzzled of Bootcamp.

blackteaplease · 25/02/2024 15:32

@FinallyHere spreadsheet is working for me now thanks

LowCarbingIn2024 · 25/02/2024 16:14

Sorry not been posting much... quite a crazy week.

I've logged on the spreadsheet because I didn't last week. It's recording as up (which it is, nothing wrong with the spreadsheet!), but I've actually lost a couple of lbs.

@LilianaVikavanovich that Ottolenghi recipe looks amazing. Would you mind if I copied and pasted it in the low carb recipe section? I've started a thread on salads and it's quite quiet at the moment.

BTW, @BIWI, I'm finding that recipe board incredibly helpful. Been bootcamping (on and off) for nearly a year now, and whilst we've got a good 'stock' of recipes, we're both getting a bit bored of them, so it's wonderful having a new source of things to go and look at. I'd really urge people who are sharing their recipes to copy them over there also. I regularly have a squizz now before we go food shopping and I'm finding it so helpful for food planning (tonight I'm having stuffed mushrooms, which I'm rather excited about!). I just wish that salad thread had more traction because I'm a big fan of "interesting" salads (if you know what I mean).

Good luck with next week everyone.

catwithflowers · 25/02/2024 16:27

@LowCarbingIn2024 I've just added one of my favourite salads to the recipe thread 😊

venusandmars · 25/02/2024 18:50

@blackteaplease I hope you're safely in Scotland and feeling the support of your local BCers Flowers

I'd say food at the wake is likely to be awful. Can you have eggs for breakfast and coffee with cream (even with butter if bulletproof coffee is your thing - not for everyday but tomorrow is an exception). Then you'll feel less tempted by sausage rolls, sandwiches, cakes. Lanark has a big Asda, so maybe you can stock up on peperami, some almonds, holy moly guacamole, pre-prepared celery sticks...

Had slow cooked lamb casserole today with green beans and oven-baked radishes (whole radishes in olive oil, salt and pepper). The red cabbage and gorgonzola has been bumped till tomorrow - so looking forward to it!

Thesoundofmusic23 · 25/02/2024 19:18

Ooooh like the idea of oven baked radishes - love a radish so may have to try this. How long do you roast them for @venusandmars ?

I’m on a Mary Berry express lasagna tonight - pork mince with mushrooms, spinach and creme fraiche with layers of griddled aubergine and a rich Passata in between and cheese on top. Devine and reheats well - a faff to make though so made lots.

LilianaVikavanovich · 25/02/2024 19:24

@LowCarbingIn2024 pleases do share the recipe on the thread , I’ve not tried the whole recipe yet , but we had the cabbage cooked in wedges tonight with our dinner and it was lovely ( no Gorgonzola needed with roast pork )

I didn’t have enough water yesterday ( had too much ruddy wine though , will I ever learn ) so topping up the water like a mad thing today
We even managed a walk today without getting rained on ,a real achievement

venusandmars · 25/02/2024 19:27

@Thesoundofmusic23 probably about 15-20 minutes. tbh just bunged them in with other stuff and wasn't counting!
