Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - the final weigh-in

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for its final outing

I hope that this has been a good Bootcamp for you all - it's been fairly quiet and peaceful this time around! Never sure if that's a good thing or not, but at least we haven't had any public flouncing!

I know that not everyone joined us in week one, and @AlmaHart has only just started (!) but don't worry - we'll keep this thread going for general chat and ongoing support.

There are also a couple of extra columns on the spreadsheet too.

Thank you for everyone who has posted and supported - and special thanks to @Finallyhere for womanning the spreadsheet

Hello everyone. I'm similarly needing a bit of motivation, I've been fairly good at sticking to LC but I'm getting into a dull rut with meals and could do with trying some more imaginative things. I'd like to lose around 7lb too @Rayna37.

Ordered new trainers, planning to start walking/running a bit more this summer.

Lucienandjean · 18/04/2023 15:07

Sorry I've been quiet for a while. I've had gallstones (really awful!) and ended up having my gallbladder out as an emergency. I've had some backlash from friends and family telling me that 'it's all that fat you've been eating' and I'm not sure if there's some truth in that. However, the surgeon did say that losing a lot of weight can make gallstones more likely, so I'm going with that theory! I've lost 4 stones+ so it's plausible.

Anyway, I've been off the wagon for a few weeks. Hospital food is definitely not low carb, and then I've had some time where I just didn't fancy any food at all except toast and porridge!

I'm now ready to get back to the WOE. It works for me, and I've still got quite a lot of weight to lose, so I'm going to persevere.

I'm sorry to hear you might not do any more bootcamps, @BIWI. I can understand though that it's a lot of work. I guess I'll still be here KOKOing, and hoping we can all encourage each other.

FinallyHere · 18/04/2023 15:14

So sorry to read about your gallstones @Lucienandjean

I'm another KOKO who really enjoyed the support around here. Glad to have you back.

OldandTired66 · 19/04/2023 17:30

I've hit a bit of a plateau after my first stone so it's good to hear from people who've lost loads on this WOE, @Lucienandjean. I hope you're feeling better after the op. I've got a weekend away and a big holiday in May planned so knuckling down for the next two weeks and re-reading all the rules as I've been letting things slip a little. I blame too many carrots and not M&S mini pork pies.

SpellitwithaY · 19/04/2023 21:10

I've had a brilliant first couple of days. Then today I had a funeral to attend a 2.5 hour drive away. Had a good breakfast but lunch after was carby. Still I did what I could and didn't have a lot. I'm mega thirsty as I didn't dare drink too much as I didn't want to stop on the motorway. Trying to catch up a bit and just having courgetti now with a creamy cheesy bacon sauce. Very yummy

Back to 💯 tomorrow

Baystard · 20/04/2023 08:23

I'm reflecting on some NSVs today. I don't think I've lost any actual weight since the end of last BC but I'm definitely leaner and less flabby. I've been KOKO but not giving myself a hard time if I have the odd carbier day and so far I've found it fairly easy to stick to: I'm finding @FinallyHere 's "how will I feel if I eat this", plus the point about my body not being a dust bin, both very useful and I'm just trying to be kinder to myself.

Skiphopbump · 20/04/2023 10:50

It’s interesting to read you reflection @Baystard particularly as I haven’t lost since last bootcamp.

I have been on and off since last
bootcamo and probably gained and lost the same 7lbs. Have been back in since Monday.

I have kept up with the swimming so despite gaining a little my body has changed shape and I can fit into smaller jeans. My cardio fitness has really improved - it improved when I started low carbing and then really improved when I started swimming, I’ve attached a picture and I think it’s clear to see when I started!

SpellitwithaY · 22/04/2023 11:01

Morning everyone! Had a sneak peek this morning and I'm 6lb down!!! Was well pleased with that and it's the boost I needed for the weekend. I think having the prep I did on Monday has made it so much easier

Baystard · 24/04/2023 08:13

What a great result @SpellitwithaY, congratulations!

Hi there I'm just popping in for advice about making Coronation chicken that is pretty low carb..

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/easy-coronation-chicken
and portion of this has 13 g carb. (1/6th)

Recipe says 2 tbsp chutney.
Lowest carb mango chutney I've found so far is 7g carb per tbsp.

If I find lowest carb mayo and sprinkle sultanas on top (so I can avoid) do you think I could get that carb number down a couple of grams? Dd and I do love a bit of Coronation chicken!! I could then have this and loads of green stuff next Saturday 😊

Easy coronation chicken recipe | BBC Good Food

Make a classic coronation chicken filling to serve with jacket potatoes or in sandwiches and salads. It's an excellent way to use up leftover chicken after a roast

BIWI · 29/04/2023 19:47

Just leave out the sultanas!

@biwi sorry to hear you are fed up. To be honest this is the only part of mumsnet I contribute to. I find most of it quite aggressive. There are a lot of cross people out there. They say things online they would never say to someone in person (or at least I hope they won’t).
I have been eating anything and everything for the last few weeks but back on it this morning . Just had a couple of boiled eggs in a cup mashed with butter.

colouringindoors · 01/05/2023 11:34

Thanks @BIWI

And I'd be sorry to see you leave, but Totally understand why. Mumsnet is not what it used to be.

But thanks v mich for all your bootcamps and advice - very much appreciated 🌷

Reduxrabbit · 04/05/2023 22:46

Oh @BIWI I had just plucked up the courage to try for the next boot camp having been a long time lurker. So sorry to read you can’t continue.

BIWI · 05/05/2023 08:38

Sorry @Reduxrabbit Flowers

Sorry to hear that @BIWI you've provided an amazing resource on here over the years and would be really missed Flowers

I joined MN in 2007 and can really see how it's changed - and the commercialisation that is driving it. Like others, I tend to stick to the small parts that I'm comfortable in and avoid the other bits.

Anyway having been too scared to step back on the scales after a high carb Easter holiday - to be fair I was in a country where low carb is very challenging - I'm ready to get back on track.

BIWI · 05/05/2023 10:45

I don't really mind some of the commercialisation - at least as long as I have Adblocker Wink - but the whole sex topic/sex chat debacle exposed another side to MN that I don't like. And I especially didn't like how long it took for MNHQ to respond to many, many posters' concerns. In that sense, I suppose it is about the commercialisation, as I can only think that their first priority is to maintain clicks/revenue, and that their users - their content providers - now come second.

Perhaps that's been the case for a long time and I've only just realised it.

I have no idea what I'm going to do - if anything - with Bootcamp. It takes a lot of time and headspace to do it.

@BIWI I completely understand though of course I'm very sorry to see you go. You have made a huge difference to me over the years. Thank you so so much.

SummerSazz · 06/05/2023 12:15

And me @BIWI. 💐

I just searched to see if there was a spring/summer thread as I need to get back on it after 4 months of illness this year and put on over a stone since last summer

Will have to go alone and use the amazing recipe threads

Thanks for all you've done, you've been amazing and had such an impact on so many lives. Would love to see you back but totally understand about your rationale for hanging up your boots for now 🤣

BIWI · 06/05/2023 13:06

Thank you! Smile

In the fabulous words of Monty Python "I'm not dead yet" Grin

I'm still here, as I find it hard to tear myself away from a place that's felt like my 'home' for coming up to 20 years. Just need to decide what to do about Bootcamp.

Baystard · 06/05/2023 21:42

@BIWI we're creatures of habit aren't we. I'm still lurking.

I've been sticking LC for over 6 months now, I'm the lightest I've been in 20 years, and I feel great. I miss BC-proper but they're a huge job @BIWI and I understand why you're having doubts. Whatever you decide please know that you've made a huge difference to my life, I cannot thank you enough.

Ulezz · 09/05/2023 18:33

@BIWI whether you decide to stick with BC’s or not I just want to say a huge thank you, it has made a huge difference to my life and the way I eat & I’ve picked up so many hints and tips that have helped (stock drink or salt water anyone) it’s been lovely to follow a woe that has actually worked but also been enjoyable.
i have name changed but been here in the past under different names.
Thank you to you and the gang for all the time & dedication (and big sticks!)

BIWI · 09/05/2023 19:36

Thank you Smile

I'd love to hear that the book is ready for publication. I'd definitely be up for pre-order.

Weighed myself again today, I've been bootcamping since 10 Jan 2022. I'm now at the upper edge of a healthy BMI so still have quite some way to go. My rate of loss has slowed, but continued uninterrupted month on month since the start.

Monthly weigh ins have worked well for me, because seeing an increase may well lease me to a wobble.

As you might easily understand, I'm a big fan of this bootcamp.

Thank you @BIWI, Stuntnun et al.

Glorianna · 10/05/2023 11:13

Same here, this is the first WOE I've mostly stuck to for extended periods. I've learnt a lot thanks to this group.

(stock drink or salt water anyone)

Is stock drink broth?
