Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 2 - how did you get on?!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 23:00

Evening all! I'm posting the week 2 chat thread this evening, as I know how keen everyone will be to post tomorrow. As I'm retired now, I no longer have to set an alarm to wake up, so I don't want to keep everyone waiting tomorrow morning to post.

I love this week. It's when we see how much people have lost, and it can be a significant amount. It can be a real leap of faith for anyone who hasn't low carbed before, and all those who really don't believe you can eat that much fat and still lose weight!

I'm really hoping that you've all had a good first week, and that your commitment 'to the cause' has been rewarded with a good result - be that on the scales, with your tape measure, or the currently-too-tight clothes that you've been trying on.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope very much that you've had a good first week, and that you're feeling supermotivated for the rest of Bootcamp.

However - if you haven't lost, or you have even gained, please don't be downhearted. We're all different, and there may be lots of reasons why this is the case for you. It's also really important to note that it's not a competition. We all lose at different rates - plus, anyone who is bigger will lose more/faster than someone who is smaller.

Hopefully there are other benefits to this WOE that will keep you on track - at the very least, I hope that you have been enjoying the food, and that you don't feel deprived, like you would be on a low calorie/fat diet.

sciatica - can’t recall who was asking but you may need physio. I did. There maybe some physio approved exercises/stretches online.

I had physio as well, which helped. Then went onto acupuncture which didn't work. It was losing a stone and changing my car to an automatic for a couple of years that finally resolved

LoopingLizards · 17/01/2023 16:44

@venusandmars haha, yes I meant rolls as in a little cheese rolled up in ham… no bread in sight, an actual roll would have been a disastrous way to start!! I wonder if that’s ever been done on here??!!
I love the idea of the mini sandwiches using ham, I’d never have thought of that, thanks
fair point on the veg though, I do need to eat more. I suppose yesterday was day one and mentally I needed to just get through it so I just picked meals that I liked more than anything else…. I always think if I get through one day, then I can keep going so I’m fairly happy I have done that and not fallen into the mountain of chocolate in the house!

today so far has been

b: 2 fried eggs, 2 rashers

l: roasted curried cauliflower soup

dinner will be tuna &mayo & hot sauce wraps with cucumber & olives

NotDonna · 17/01/2023 17:04

This was much easier in October when it wasn’t -5’c. I’m feeling quite hungry today and wondering if that’s to keep warm. I’m not drinking enough either.

Brassbumblebee · 17/01/2023 17:29

Oh I am eating breakfast @BIWI I just meant I'd had breakfast already this morning when i made that post. I usually have to wait a while before I eat but I was hungry pretty much as soon as I woke up which was odd to me.

I fried (in butter) my cauliflower rice tonight and it was much nicer so thanks to the posters who have been mentioning that. I usually just boil it.

@Jenasaurus thanks for that I'll keep an eye out for them when I'm next in the shops!

Rayna37 · 17/01/2023 18:04

B- unusually for me, yogurt (about 10:30)
L- shakshuka based on a recipe in the Oddbox cookbook I was given last week for my birthday.
D: cheeseburger pie and green beans (on a tray in the oven, alongside the pie) is this the first cheeseburger pie of the bootcamp?!

Loads of water, not finding it difficult at all right now.

StuntNun · 17/01/2023 19:14

I've had loads of acupuncture while low carbing @LittleMy77 (love Moomins!) and it's never given me any issues. It can feel quite intense though so maybe you had an extreme reaction to it.

NotDonna · 17/01/2023 20:12

Anyone watching the ‘poo’ TV show?

Skiphopbump · 17/01/2023 20:34

@NotDonna I considered watching it but DS is eating so thought it may put him off!

I had bolognese for dinner. I can’t be bothered with spiralled courgette. Instead I cut the courgette into chunky batons, season and drizzle garlic or chilli oil and then air fry - it works so well!

DryWhiteagainW · 17/01/2023 20:49

Thank you BIWI, I’ll be patient, it will come off. Think I need to stop weighing every day.
anyway this is what I’ve eaten recently:

Sunday
B. Natural yogurt (full fat)
L. Veg soup (leeks, celery, cauliflower, cumin, onion)
snack smoked haddock, chicken thigh, celery sticks.
D. Cottage pie with celeriac mash and leeks

Monday:
B. Smoked salmon one egg omelette
L. Chicken salad with mayo/natural yogurt/lemon juice sauce
D. Chilli without rice
snack ham , chicken thigh

Today:
B. 2 boiled eggs
L. Chicken and veg (as on Sunday) soup
D. Spanish chicken (2 chicken thighs, loads of sauce, nice and warming)
snack: Ham and a small piece of Stilton

im drinking 2 coffees with ff milk and after that fruit teas all day and water.

TheMagicSword · 17/01/2023 20:50

Had cod wrapped in prosciutto and pan fried for dinner, thank you to whoever recommended it on here! Plus pile of veg with butter. Lunch was lettuce wraps around ham, cheese and mayo. Breakfast was scrambled eggs with spinach.

@Rayna37 oooh, cheeseburger pie! Putting that on the list for next week! The only problem with it is I always make enough for lunch the next day, but it all mysteriously disappears by the time we go to bed…

Ive not had acupuncture while on low carb. When I did have it, it gave me migraines - no pain but the tunnel vision/flashing lights kind. I told my acupuncturist who changed things so it didn’t. Certainly enough to convince me it’s potentially powerful!

prettybird · 17/01/2023 20:56

I had (homemade Wink) meatballs in tomato sauce tonight: dh and ds had spaghetti and I had them with buttery microwaved sliced Savoy cabbage. Someone suggested it last Boot Camp or so as an alternative to courgetti (itself a substitute for the pasta) and it's been a revelation. Shoogling in the microwave is much easier than frying the thinly sliced courgette Grin

Rayna37 · 17/01/2023 21:05

Themagicsword the other half is already in Tupperware and in the freezer! I'm ruthless about leftovers- I almost always cook either the right amount or double, there's never "just a bit more". Result of growing up with a DM who is very frugal about food well everything I think. Very rigid ideas about portions particularly with meat/fish; not so much with veg, bread etc. DH would be happy for us to finish off a curry or stew I'd intended for 4 (and I'm sure swathes of Mumsnet would call me controlling for not "letting" him) but I can only see it as wasteful, it's old fashioned good sense; you wouldn't have dreamt of doing it 50 years ago and few people were overweight then!

Rayna37 · 17/01/2023 21:08

Sadly my frugality/portion control does not extend to wine.

ZiggZagg · 17/01/2023 21:20

Good evening campers!

Just polished off a plate of lamb chops complete with lovely crispy fat, then realized I forgot to do my veg 🙈 so just shoogling some sprouts before bed!

L was tuna salad

All the water!

It's so cold and snowy here, I've made a lovely pan of soup, it's the kind of weather for it. Poor Iris won't go out in the snow so she is going slightly mad in the house!

NSV I can definitely see an improvement in my sleep, all I dream of all day is my warm bed. My skin is starting to clear and my appetite is a lot more predictable now.

Love this WOE!

Gingerwarthog · 17/01/2023 21:25

@ZiggZagg
Please can we have some more Iris pictures?

ZiggZagg · 17/01/2023 21:56

Much obliged Grin

Mercedesbenz2022 · 17/01/2023 22:00

@TheMagicSword , welcome , it’s so easy isn’t it ?

I made homemade burgers , with veg ( chips for dp ) really nice and an extra one for lunch tomorrow

didn’t weigh today and am going to try to leave it til at least Fri , I don’t want to fall off due to being disheartened with any natural increases

dp is most disappointed that we don’t have any choc in the house , actually think the word might be incredulous 😉
but if it’s not here I can’t eat it

MaryDoll84 · 17/01/2023 22:13

Omg. How adorable is Iris😍

B:scrambled eggs cooked in butter and fried mushrooms and leeks
L:ham, cheese and coleslaw salad
D:meatballs and cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake.

So looking forward to week 3 when I can round off my dinner with a couple of squares of lindt 90% chocolate!

FinallyHere · 17/01/2023 22:24

Hello lovely bootcampers, I'm excited to share another NSV with you. The size 10 leather look leggings, my pride and joy had started to get a bit baggy round the bottom department and didn't look so good.

While I had assumed that they were just stretching, Hairdresser lady told me that I must be shrinking again so just for fun I sent off for a smaller size.

Stone the crows, I'm an eight. KOKO is definitely working for me.

BIWI · 17/01/2023 22:29

Woo hoo! Brilliant @FinallyHere Flowers

I had a sort-of NSV today. My size 12 jeans are getting a little loose, but I wasn't sure if it was just because they needed washing. But I got the size 10s out that I've had for a while, and I can not only get them on but also I can fasten them up Smile

I couldn't possibly wear them out anywhere, and the muffin top has to be seen to be believed Shock but I was dead chuffed.

Back on it with the water today thankfully. Managed to make it to spin and back without actually spinning about in the car - bit treacherous where I am.

I think due to uppage in water again wasn't overly hungry today
B - greek yoghurt and cream
L - celery with pate
D - ham wrapped around cheese and a bit more yoghurt afterwards

My skin is looking good - not as dry/flakey and must be sleeping ok as I feel rested in the morning (despite perimeno). I'm also starting to wake just before alarm which is another good sign. All this is keeping me super motivated thank goodness

FinallyHere · 17/01/2023 22:30

not only get them on but also I can fasten them up

Hurrah @BIWI 😁

Gingerwarthog · 17/01/2023 22:31

@ZiggZagg
Iris is adorable

MrsTaytodarling · 17/01/2023 22:34

Anyone measure their keytones? I'm very keytotic

Gingerwarthog · 17/01/2023 22:35

Greek yoghurt for breakfast
Chicken salad for lunch
Cheese omelette for dinner
(This is Mon - Fri standard fare at the moment).
DH made a lamb and kale curry on Sunday in the slow cooker which was really supportive.
Lots of biscuits and Jaffa Cakes flying around work today but resisted...
Cold / but probably mostly because we have an ice weather warning this evening....
