Welcome everybody!

Here, thinks to @FinallyHere, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

This Bootcamp will last for eight weeks, with (as ever) the first two weeks being the most strict.

I'll post again tomorrow, but just wanted to get things underway for now Smile

I feel I’ve eaten an awful lot today and I can’t pretend I’m not panicking about the amount of calories I must be consuming. I’m just trying to trust for the moment, but if I’ve put on weight on Monday I shall probably weep!

B: 2 egg omelette with fried mushrooms and a pile of raw spinach dressed with olive oil
L : Leftover roasted veg and feta from last night.
Dinner: Chicken and avocado salad with EVOO

i had intended not to eat between meals today but I could have chewed my arm off at 5pm and wanted to exercise before dinner, so I had home made rollitos made with Brie and wafer ham.

Lougle · 27/07/2022 20:02

Are you drinking plenty of water?

Oh yes! I’m sloshing with the stuff.

Lougle · 27/07/2022 20:12

In that case, give it time. You will adjust. I eat half of what I used to eat. I gradually realised that if I stopped before I was full, I was still satisfied, then gradually adjusted my intake from there... I used to be shaky between meals and yet today, I got to 3pm before I thought 'I should probably have something to eat.'

pinknsparkly · 27/07/2022 20:35

D'oh. Thanks both. It was a very limited choice and was between that and carrot with houmous. So I thought this was the good option.... 😥with tomato being on the green list, I figured tomato, mayonnaise and prawns had to be ok!

WhoAteTheChips · 27/07/2022 20:42

Tell me the truth so I can prepare myself… do people normally gain weight on this for a few weeks till they start to reduce? I’m really a bit horrified by how much I seem to be eating. OTOH, I suppose the toast, baked potatoes, large lattes, pasta, rice, and all the bananas, apples and smoothies have disappeared. Maybe that’s enough to even it up????

Are you eating more than you'd usually eat? Are you eating until you're satisfied, or are you eating until you're really full because you're worried you'll be hungry later?' I'm wondering what it is that is horrifying you about the amount of food you're eating.

are you eating enough fat? This is a low carb, high fat diet, not just low carb.

Lougle · 27/07/2022 21:10

Looking back at last bootcamp's spreadsheet, most people lost but some people put on a little at some points but lost it at others.

Weight loss isn't linear though. This is my chart since I started. Lots of ups and downs!

Honestly - I have no real idea of what I normally eat. It’s just - happens. Which sounds crazy, I know. But it’s like it’s a separate thing. Feel - eat seems to be the cycle. Now it’s deliberately eat three times a day, and I have to think about it, engage with it, do it. It feels quite frightening - because the other way obviously worked so well! I don’t eat a lot of red meat, I just don’t like the texture, but m religiously eating cheese/FF yoghurt/eggs/avocado/oily fish/skin on chicken. Masses of veg, and lots of olive oil. So I THINK I’m doing what I’m meant to do. I think it’s the fat that’s frightening me.

Lougle · 27/07/2022 21:30

The fat is vital. Your body is used to registering the carbs and using them as fuel. It needs to switch to using your body fat as fuel. The only way to achieve that is to deprive it of carbs. But you'll soon succumb to the pangs of hunger if you don't have sufficient fat to keep you satisfied.

Having said that, you don't need to eat until you're stuffed. There's nothing wrong with having a moderate meal, then having a few cubes of cheese/olives/snacks if you've got hungry before the next meal. You can tweak it as you go.

sushinelove · 27/07/2022 21:43

I e been away so just entered my weight tonight and will start tomorrow. I e tried Atkins before and there was always a maximum amount of carbs you could eat, is this the case here? I couldn't see on the 'rules' I seriously need to lose weight, 4 stone would be wonderful, but I'm aiming for a stone at a time

FancyFelix · 27/07/2022 21:46

The fat is frightening at first but stick with it. It does work and you'll be amazed when the weight starts dropping off.

Good food day here today. 4 litres of liquids down, 3 of them were water. No breakfast as I didn't have time before a hectic work day but my planned frittata for lunch turned into leeks and spinach with cheesy scrambled eggs because I had such a FL of GV that there wasn't enough egg to go around it all.

Armenian lamb for tea which I absolutely love and is a family favourite here. The others had it with rice, me with broccoli/Cauli rice and some carrots.

I just left out the tablespoon of flour so it was thinner than usual but still tasty.

It's more a case of limiting what you eat to low carb foods (5g or under per 100g). There are exceptions e.g. garlic is 14/100 but you'd use so little garlic puree that it doesn't matter. If you stick to that (and the other rules such as no nuts/seeds/fruit) then you can't go wrong, really.

Lougle · 27/07/2022 21:48

Tab 6 of the spreadsheet has a list of vegetables with carb counts, colour coded red, amber, green, which makes it really easy to see which to go for and which to avoid.

5thWisdom · 27/07/2022 21:50

Sorry, another question - and sorry if I've missed this.

Is there a recommended amount of exercise per day? Presumably if we are switching to fat burning, not carb burning, we still need to be exercising for the burning to happen?! Grin

I took an hour long gentle walk earlier - first time I felt like doing any exercise since Monday.

bella1426 · 27/07/2022 21:53

Feeling pretty bloody sore from my parkfit class last night! This is what happens when I sit on my arse for a month...

B - mushrooms, spinach and chorizo cheesy scrambled eggs
L - lettuce wraps with tuna mayo and peppers
D - roast salmon and cauliflower with cheese and cabbage with butter
S - wedge of Brie, coffees with cream

Feeling mostly good today, a bit of a headache but the scales are moving (I'm a daily weigher...unless I'm hiding from the truth which is when the wheels tend to come odd 🙈) enjoying the tasty food and no carb or sugar cravings really. I do wonder if I'm eating too much butter and cheese but just gonna go with it until the scale stalls

Lougle · 27/07/2022 21:53

@5thWisdom I'm not BIWI and I've only joined her bootcamp since May, but we burn the fat by way of metabolism (which is why water is so very important). I haven't increased my exercise at all and I've lost 23.4lbs since May.

CarpetMollusc · 27/07/2022 22:25

Not a bad day, been v busy so just probably not had quite enough water but will neck another pint before bed.
B - greek yogurt
L - salad with egg mayo, cheese, olives
D - halloumi salad

Thanks all for the tips re Hi 5 zero tablets, I'll order some.

sushinelove · 27/07/2022 22:26

@Lougle thanks, that's a huge help. I beat myself up when I didn't manage to stay under 20g of carbs on Atkins, then fell off the wagon completely. Hoping for a bit more lasting willpower this way

5thWisdom · 27/07/2022 22:29

So very grateful for the High5 Zero recommendation. Felt a headache coming on at around 11am, took one dose and started to feel better - no headache for rest of the day.
That coupled with 2 1/2 litres of water has kept headaches away - a completely new experience for me on low carb.

comfortablyfrumpy · 27/07/2022 22:55

Hi 5 tabs on order, thanks for the recommendation. I am hoping they will sort out my stupid foot and leg cramps!

I managed to avoid a load of pizza today at work. It just didn't really appeal -, I realise my mindset has really shifted, heavy carby stuff just isn't looking that appetising any more.

StuntNun · 28/07/2022 06:42

@5thWisdom exercise isn't required for weight loss although it is worth doing for your health.

@sushinelove there's no maximum carb intake on Bootcamp, you just need to follow the rules. @BIWI designed it to be as simple as possible so that's why there's no weighing ingredients or carb counting.

ditavonteesed · 28/07/2022 08:15

Ergh yesterday was crazy at work so my water intake was pathetic, think I managed a litre. Only managed to grab sips when my throat actually felt like it was starting to stick together. After the 4 litres the day before I felt very thirsty. I did however not succumb to the office treats despite not getting food till 4pm. Definitely didn't manage 3 meals.
Nights tonight so will eat well before I go and just take yoghurt and cheese for snacks if needed.

Need to eat my way through the meat in the freeze to make room for my low carb bread order.
Last of my first block of pt sessions next week and he said we are going to do fit test, bleep test and stuff, not looking forward to that, haven't done that since pe started school.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 28/07/2022 08:23

Good Morning All,

As I'm slightly ahead of you all I've had my first weigh in today and lost five pounds. I'm mega happy with this as already starting to feel less barrel-like around my middle.

I slept really really well last night and have woken up not hungry at all. Before this bout of weight gain I was a very long term IF-er which worked well for me so I will prob drop into that again eventually but happy to go with the flow in these initial weeks.

Lunch yesterday was a chicken salad and my evening meal was a prawn stir fry. Both very colourful and very delicious.

Have a wonderful day everyone. 🙂

Forpoxsake · 28/07/2022 08:33

Well done @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa that’s a great loss!

i didn’t manage enough water yesterday, we were out and there were no toilets! I managed 2L though so not completely off track.
I also didn’t succumb to the usual ice cream or sweet treats with the DC, bought a pack of chorizo and olives and had that instead (I know Chorizo is not ideal but we ended up being out later than planned)

Just a small reminder for everyone….

WATER

FancyFelix · 28/07/2022 08:37

Woohoo well done @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa

I'm hoping for a decent week 1 loss as I'm away next week so a loss will be good motivation not to fall at the first hurdle. It's going to be a week staying in various premier inns so I will have to fill up on bacon and eggs each morning and try to pick the right convenience food.
