Week 3 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - moving on to Light?

BIWI · 16/05/2022 08:08

Good morning!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So today you have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish - which means you can re-introduce some fruit, some nuts/seeds and some alcohol. Note the use of the word 'some'!

If you wish, you can also now introduce/re-introduce intermittent fasting - most people drop breakfast, but it's up to you how you want to do this. @StuntNun has a thread about how to combine fasting with low carb for anyone who is interested in this approach.

You can, if you wish, remain on Bootcamp, if it suits you and it's working for you. Alternatively you can adopt a hybrid - so Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whichever route you decide upon, good luck! Flowers

Did loads of us cook Bolognaise at the same time? It's a big winner here with the downside that even a big pot of it doesn't last over long.

NSV I did a pilates class this evening, and my top rode up. I wasn't mortified by a big flabby gut - just a modest flabby gut. Grin

I rosted cabbage in olive oil this evening. DH & children ate it all while I was at class. I had turnip with my Bolognaise. (Secretly thrilled that DCs are eating cabbage!)

B. Mushroom & cheese omelette. Creamy coffee.
L. LC roll with ham & coleslaw, & tsp pesto
D. Bolognaise with extra basil leaves & turnip.
3L water drank.

@ShagMeRiggins - to be fair on myself, I put together a BootCamp compatible meal for our anniversary. I even left out the "pinch of caster sugar" in the recipe for the marinade for the salmon starter Wink. Dh had Maltesers with ice cream for dessert while I had raspberries. So it was really just the excess of wine for the one day Grin

Just back from a lovely meal at Sarti's (the Italian Glasgow institution), with dh, ds, his girlfriend (the first one he has brought home Shock) and my dad: I had their oven baked Italian sausage in a tomato and roasted green bean sauce, served with garlicky spinach (substituted for the mashed potato). It was washed down with copious of.........

.........water Grin

I'm having lunch with another MNer on Friday: the local restaurant used to have some decent low carb options but they've changed their menu Hmm and there's nothing now easily adaptable, unless you want to pay £6 extra for steaks Sad I know she is HFLCing too, so I'm suggesting a different restaurant (technically just across the railway bridge but the road is closed at the moment, so we'd have to detour over a pedestrian bridge), which looks like it has some great options Smile

Lucienandjean · 17/05/2022 22:12

It's been an odd sort of day today, food-wise. I'm moving back into IF but finding that tougher than I remembered.

B: none. I did have coffee though.

L: hard boiled egg mashed with mayo and butter, 3 rollitos, lettuce, mini cucumbers, 2 cherry tomatoes, some avocado, and a glass of kombucha. I probably ate too much as was hungry after fasting.

D: at my daughter's house so hard to control what I got! Roast chicken (fine, if a bit lean), roasted peppers and onions (I just had a little), and plenty of cauliflower. Definitely not enough fat, and I felt hungry very quickly afterwards.

S: have just eaten a lump of cheese and some yogurt and cream. Feel full now but I've eaten this too late and so it'll shorten my fast.

Gallons of water. My dh has started to roll his eyes at all the water.

prettybird · 17/05/2022 22:24

I made a shepherds pie/spag bol base today from minced left over roast lamb, chock full of veg (soffrito of shallots, leeks, carrots, plus a can of tomatoes and a cube of chopped spinach) and given a bit of oomph with some Worcestershire sauce. I'll need to freeze it as we can't eat it while ds' girlfriend is here as she's veggie).

venusandmars · 17/05/2022 22:54

@APerfectlyGoodName that's the best NSV ever - kids eating cabbage. Well done!

My favourite restaurant dish ever and I've had a few Blush was confit hispi cabbage. Just that really. Cabbage cooked in butter (probably had a bot of miso and seaweed inthe dressing).

@prettybird it must be imprtant if he's brought his gf home [heart emoji if I could do one].

Tomorrow I'm going to this lovely place for lunch (business meeting). So excited.

venusandmars · 17/05/2022 23:04

@ShagMeRiggins I sent you a PM but the new frikkin' MN system means I might have sent you 8 messages. Plus the whole thing keeps dropping out, so I might have sent zero message. Oh, the wonder of technology!

Lougle · 18/05/2022 01:19

Yesterday was a weird day food wise. Needed a shop and have been struggling with kids with D&V, feeling a bit off myself.

B - nothing
L - mushrooms fried in butter, ¾ avocado, 1 sick celery.
D - lamb chops in a creamy sauce with broccoli, aubergine and tomatoes.

Fluid 3 x750ml water, 6 x tea with almond milk.

Currently sat on the loo, waiting to puke ☹️☹️

pinknsparkly · 18/05/2022 06:25

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore and @venusandmars thanks both for sharing your stories. They're very inspiring. I'm also low carbing for health reasons - I got a second pre diabetes diagnosis after managing to previously reverse it before getting pregnant. This was not entirely unexpected as it was combined with tingling fingers and toes and lots of other diabetes symptoms. I'm choosing to drop carbs as I'm petrified of losing my fingers and toes due to diabetes which I admit it a slightly dramatic reaction but doing the trick for me 😆

pinknsparkly · 18/05/2022 06:31

@Lougle sending you best wishes and hope the D&V passes soon for all of you. Being ill is so much worse as a parent when you also have to look after ill small people 😫

venusandmars · 18/05/2022 06:47

@Lougle poor thing. I hope you're feeling better soon.

B - rooibos tea (2 mugs)
L - something lovely in a seafood resaurant (overlooking the sea)
D - green veg soup

Baystard · 18/05/2022 07:50

@prettybird I bet the pie will taste 10x richer having had a spell in the freezer, I reckon I impart about 80% of the flavour when I cook those sorts of things and a fairy adds the other 20% while it's in the freezer.

@venusandmars Love the info that rhubarb is a veg because I love rhubarb. Currently have 4 different varieties in my garden!

Still rough today, it's a nasty sinus thing. Lots of black coffee to get through the morning.

Jollyholibobs · 18/05/2022 08:02

I buy Morrisons wonky Avacado’s often a big bad of small ones so eat the whole Avacado. Sometimes disappointingly stringy though. Usually excellent.

I ate too much yoghurt yesterday but got through my exhausted day without carbing through. managed all the water.

didnt pick my asparagus yesterday there will be loads today. Will have with frittata this evening.

Dress for impending events arrived yesterday. Not quite lovely enough. And a bit too formal. Another is on its way. DH said dress 1 was ‘alright’ but not if I was going to tell him it was £200. I didn’t tell him but it nearly was.

Love the rhubarb and tomato wisdom @venusandmars .

hope you feel better soon @Lougle

gret post @ditavonteesed

Pleaseandthankyou · 18/05/2022 08:04

@venusandmars that restaurant has the wow factor. I had an nsv yesterday. I woke up with a bmi of 25.7. Was officially weighed and measured for a health check. Turns out I am 2cm taller than I thought. Bmi dropped to 25.1 😂. So ladies no slouching

ditavonteesed · 18/05/2022 08:14

@Lougle hope the bugs pass quickly.
Right In coming, mega apologies you can bleach your eyes afterwards if you need to. Trouser progress pics, I think I can see some improvement but not much.

@Pleaseandthankyou Been there Grin I used to think I was 5'4" (from when I was about 20). Measured myself in my 40s and I was 5'5" Shock Measured myself in my 50s (after a particularly stretchy Pilates class Wink) and I was 5'5 and a half inches Grin - does wonders for the BMI Wink

prettybird · 18/05/2022 08:27

@ditavonteesed Definitely less muffin top Smile

Lougle · 18/05/2022 08:52

Thanks everyone. Haven't been sick yet, just feel on the brink, banging headache and very achy. It's how the girls were before they were sick so par for the course.

I have shopping coming 9-10. I'm going to have to just unload it into the hall and DH will have to put it away. I was meant to be taking my car to the garage today but I'm not fit to drive.

DD2 also has a really important meeting today that we've been waiting for since February. That will have to go virtual or be postponed.

Lougle · 18/05/2022 08:52

@ditavonteesed definite difference!

Lougle · 18/05/2022 09:10

Sainsbury's guy seriously unimpressed with me. Not sure what I can do about that. I warned him that I'd come down with a bug and he should keep his distance. He huffed and said 'Well you'd better put some slippers on and come outside.

I would have offered to unload the items onto the path for the customer, so that they didn't have to touch the crates. If they still had bags, it wouldn't have been an issue anyway.

Rshard · 18/05/2022 09:15

Hope your house is free of the lurgy soon @Lougle

Your trousers are definitely fitting better, well done @ditavonteesed

Loves the tomato/rhubarb wisdom @venusandmars

Rare day on the office today, with two long meetings so we will see how that goes. I have water and am dispatching a colleague to a local shop that does amazing salads with loads of lc options.

Jollyholibobs · 18/05/2022 10:15

@ditavonteesed i can see progress.

Frenchpoodle · 18/05/2022 11:16

@ditavonteesed can definitely see progress, also love the pink trousers.

Need to tell you all about the most delicious Mediterranean breakfast I had in the cafe next door this morning.
Avocado, cucumber, mushrooms, egg, olives, chilli, tomato, halloumi and Turkish sausage 😋 So good

heliosfountain · 18/05/2022 13:13

That Turkish breakfast sounds absolutely immense @Frenchpoodle!

@ditavonteesed, what a difference on your top half, well done!

I'm taking a break from doing my spreadsheets worrying about money/cost of living crisis to post! Its taken us a long time to get here but I'd now say we were (until recently) relatively comfortable with 4 bed house, 2 cars, 3 kids etc but I am doing the sums for next month and panicking. We need to allocate A LOT more to my DH's diesel budget to get to work (in a school) and food is crazy expensive. The sums aren't adding up. However I'm also so aware that if they aren't adding up for me, I do have choices and there are millions out there who just don't.

Saying that, I've just had a lovely chicken/avo/mayo/tomato salad for lunch with some low carb bread and butter followed by yoghurt (not Greek as my Asda doesn't stock it but Yeo Valley natural with similar carb count) with double cream and blackberries. I am aware I have expensive tastes and re. above, I am going to have to come up with some cheaper food ideas! I am already a yellow/reduced sticker fan!

1l water down.

Enjoy your special lunch @venusandmars!
