Week 3 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - moving on to Light?

BIWI · 16/05/2022 08:08

Good morning!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So today you have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish - which means you can re-introduce some fruit, some nuts/seeds and some alcohol. Note the use of the word 'some'!

If you wish, you can also now introduce/re-introduce intermittent fasting - most people drop breakfast, but it's up to you how you want to do this. @StuntNun has a thread about how to combine fasting with low carb for anyone who is interested in this approach.

You can, if you wish, remain on Bootcamp, if it suits you and it's working for you. Alternatively you can adopt a hybrid - so Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whichever route you decide upon, good luck! Flowers

I've had a litre of electrolyte water and 2 cups of tea so far today. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's best to try and eat tonight? I would normally go for a dry cracker, etc., if I've been feeling very sick, but that's high carb.

ShagMeRiggins · 18/05/2022 15:30

ShagMeRiggins - to be fair on myself, I put together a BootCamp compatible meal for our anniversary. I even left out the "pinch of caster sugar" in the recipe for the marinade for the salmon starter Wink

sorry, sweetie.

venusandmars · 18/05/2022 16:12

Lunch today (pic attached)

Starter was smoked eel with horseradish and Japanese veg, with very pretty beetroot flowers.

Followed BT cod and morells served with green beans in yogurt and hazelnut crumb, some peas, beans and cabbage. The cod was served with a delicious chicken butter sauce, but the photo with it added didn't look as lovely as it tasted.

TBH, if you're poorly like this, I'd go for the cracker, or some dry toast. More important right now than the carbs.

Wow! Very fancy.

@BIWI thank you. Didn't want to be a lightweight but couldn't think of what to eat that wouldn't set me off. I've been able to avoid vomiting so far but feel like I'm on the brink at any moment.

Anyone want some teenagers??

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 18/05/2022 18:04

Sorry to hear younare not well @Lougle

Well done on your pics @ditavonteesed looks great!

Tried IF today, got on OK

B at 10.45am - coffee and cream
Big lunch then at 12pm: spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, 2 hard boiled eggs, tuna
Another coffee and cream at 2.30pm
D: lamb meatballs in tomato and cream sauce with parmesan and shoogled cabbage
Was still a little hungry so had 2 slices of cheese
Drank close to 4L will finish the last bottle.before bed

UnOeufIsEnough · 18/05/2022 19:12

Looks delicious @venusandmars! I'm a Fifer, although no longer live there. A good excuse to go back!

Lunch: salmon, lettuce and tomatoes in mayo
Dinner: pan-fried sea bass with asparagus and pak Choi
Snack: raspberries with soya yoghurt. Think the yoghurt needs something like cinnamon in it to disguise the earthy flavour Confused

heliosfountain · 18/05/2022 19:16

Meals today:-

L:- chicken/avo/mayo/tomato salad with some low carb bread and butter followed by Yeo Valley natural yoghurt with double cream and blackberries
D: 4 x Asda GF sausages & 3 x scrambled eggs. About 30g of 70% dark chocolate and a heaped teaspoon of peanut butter

I'm not doing very well with staying on strict BC! Berries, dark chocolate & peanut butter today.

Not enough water - approx 1.5l so far

ditavonteesed · 18/05/2022 19:41

Blimey @venusandmars that food looks out if this world.

My sil (well ex sil) took me out for lunch today for belated birthday, had an all day breakfast minus any naughty bits, really lovely.

@Lougle I always find scrambled eggs soothing on the stomach, in fact that is what I give the dogs if they have a poorly tum. Hope your feeling better.

@Livelongandprosper glad you and the cat are doing well, old man dog is also doing well and starting to look a bit less chubby.

APerfectlyGoodName · 18/05/2022 20:52

I thought at first that you had cooked that Venus. ShockShock a la pretty's anniversary meal. I was distracted this morning cooking my omelette, smelt some burning so quickly stirred it and turned it onto the plate. It was a classic 'dogs diner' though it tasted nice. But no way would I be sharing that pic. Anyway I see it was a restaurant [phew]

Today - I am sooo tired. Children up at 6am! Grrr
B. Veg & cheese omelette. LC flatbread.
L, Greek yogurt 150g with 20g peanut butter
D. Chicken, cabbage, turnip, spinach. Coleslaw.
S. Herbal tea with 85% chocolate.

BC lite is creeping in - without being invited so we'll see what that says on the scales

Lougle · 18/05/2022 20:59

Thanks @ditavonteesed. I might try that tomorrow.

Today I've had 1 stick of celery.
Fluid: 2 X 750 ml electrolyte water (1 to go). 4 cups of tea with almond milk.

I bought some pure almond butter. Utterly rank 🤢 Just oily and disgusting diarrhoea texture. I only dipped my finger on the plate and I just knew it was not a winner.

Baystard · 18/05/2022 21:10

Feeling a bit better this afternoon and, as expected, my ravenous appetite didn't reappear today.

Scales haven't moved all week, assuming it's the week 3 plateau but can't get too bothered by it. Will KOKO and I know it will eventually start to fall again.

B- black coffee
L- big lump of gruyer
D- lamb casserole, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, then stewed rhubarb with clotted cream. 1 square 100% chocolate.

Baystard · 18/05/2022 21:20

@Lougle you can make nice chocolate fudge with almond butter. I've not made it for ages but it's 100g almond butter, 50g dark chocolate, 50g butter. You melt it all together with some natvia (to taste - not alot) and store/eat from the freezer. I used to adapt the quantities to use whatever size of jar of almond butter I had.

venusandmars · 18/05/2022 21:23

@APerfectlyGoodName ha ha Grin If I could make my food look like that.... And to be honest, some of my 'dog's dinner' combinations are the most delicious. I have left over cauliflower and brocoli cheese, for tomorrow, with some ham. It tastes amazing, but a photo would look a bit like a pool of sick. [sorry @lougle trying not to talk about food or about sick, to avoid upsetting your delicate stomach!]

Lougle · 18/05/2022 21:41

Oh don't worry! I'd be glad if I could be sick because it might move on from that sicky feeling.

Jollyholibobs · 19/05/2022 07:38

Good morning everyone. Hope you are feeling better today @Lougle .

I am working in an office today but if a long train commute. Have left over frittata in a box for lunch. Will need to keep a focus on water as I never manage to do well in this office.

B black coffee
L left over frittata
D Egg fried Cauliflower rice with sesame oil.

I am planning to take advantage of my presence in a big city to source something to wear to my party at the weekend. I was thinking last night that I don’t want to go and have people see me like this. Removed two tonnes of clothes from my wardrobe last night which I can’t get into at the moment. Was wearing it all last summer. Gives me some more motivation to stick with this.

KOKO everyone and drink your water.

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/05/2022 10:09

@venusandmars that food looks gorgeous............we're in the landlocked north so don't get to seafood places that often 😪.
@Lougle hope you feel better this morning, I'll pass on the teenagers thanks......mine is enough for the moment!
@ditavonteesed hope your DD's are doing ok this week, ours has definitely calmed down now that she's got a couple of exams under her belt - the not knowing always knocks her off-kilter without everything else going on.

Gig 1 of 2 last night, managed to get most of my water dealt with by teatime, shovelled porkbelly roast from earlier in the week along with some broccoli down us before we went and got there in time for the first band which I'm glad about! Had a (ruinously expensive) glass of wine between bands and woke up feeling really dehydrated this morning so need to get on the water!

In the office today, have had two hard-boiled eggs mashed with butter and have some yoghurt with me plus a piece of cheddar for a snack and my lunch is chicken, mushroom and broccoli bake with stilton sauce. Hoping if I pick up some salad leaves to go with it I won't need any dinner as have to go straight from here to gig number 2 in the back of beyond. The pub DH is playing in does food but it's never seen being LC and can't see that I can order any of it and adapt.........

BIWI · 19/05/2022 10:22

Time, I think, for another recipe challenge!

If you're like me, you've probably acquired all manner of different cook books over the years. And also like me, they probably sit on the shelf for ages without being used! A large number of the recipes will, no doubt, be too carby - but why not go for a book you haven't looked at for a while and pick a recipe and see if you can adapt it for Bootcamp rules?

I'm off to see if I can find a good vegetarian recipe, as my veggie repertoire (that's also Bootcamp-compatible!) is a bit limited.

1, 2, 3 ... go!

I'm feeling a little bit less precarious today. I've managed a bottle of electrolyte water and 3 cups of tea. I took @ditavonteesed 's advice and had 2 scrambled eggs (cream and butter) for breakfast and they've stayed down.

BIWI · 19/05/2022 11:03

Hi everyone, I have been reading and sticking to it the last few days but running out of time to post in frantically busy days. Monday I started IF again although I do have a tea in the morning with a shade of milk, so not a true fast. Its been fine though, don't miss breakfast at all and am glad I don't have to think about it!
Lunches have been good; salad with eggs and cheese, and avocado. Dinner last night was a bit of a disaster though; salmon steak in a restaurant was delicious but not enough so came home and ate a carrot with philadephia, and too much dark chocolate. I'm annoyed because today, tomorrow and Saturday (all special events) I'm likely to be drinking, so I wanted to do more good days before I did that. Oh well, will just have to be especially conscious of my food the next few days while quaffing champagne, red wine and vodka!

UnOeufIsEnough · 19/05/2022 12:53

Not a bad low carb offering at IKEA!

Hi there - this sounds good as I also have loads of books yet end up cooking the same stuff over again
I just have a question - what about recipes with wine? Are these low carb as alcohol gets boiled off or is there still too much residual sugar left? Just wondering...
