Week 3 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - moving on to Light?

BIWI · 16/05/2022 08:08

Good morning!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So today you have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish - which means you can re-introduce some fruit, some nuts/seeds and some alcohol. Note the use of the word 'some'!

If you wish, you can also now introduce/re-introduce intermittent fasting - most people drop breakfast, but it's up to you how you want to do this. @StuntNun has a thread about how to combine fasting with low carb for anyone who is interested in this approach.

You can, if you wish, remain on Bootcamp, if it suits you and it's working for you. Alternatively you can adopt a hybrid - so Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whichever route you decide upon, good luck! Flowers

@Livelongandprosper Congratulations at the weight loss! Our cat had to go on a diet last year. She still looks at me as if to say 'is that it?' when I put her food down!

Only logging a 1lb loss this week, but i've retaken photos and definitely think that my tummy is sticking out less than before.

Lougle · 16/05/2022 20:46

I didn't think of doing that this morning, @glamourousindierockandroll.

glamourousindierockandroll · 16/05/2022 20:52

@Lougle tbh I only dif it because the scales are a bit disapponting to be honest.

I should really re-take some that aren't in my underwear so that I might feel comfortable sharing them!

SummerSazz · 16/05/2022 21:03

I've sts but have been up and down 4lbs this week due to conference alcohol 😫. I'm away again with work this week for 3 days and will try and eat less than last week (which was all low carb but likely too much).

Week 18 and 23lb down at 10.13 from 12.8

Happy anniversary @prettybird and we'll done everyone on scale losses and inch losses

One great crunchy win for me this bootcamp has been baked cavalo Nero (Lidl do a good reasonably priced bag). Drizzle with oil and salt and 15 mins in the oven and it's like crispy seaweed. My teens love it!

TheRealShedSadie · 16/05/2022 21:15

New favorite meal after tonight! Home made bolognese sauce on big pile of cabbage, covered in grated cheddar and Parmesan cheese. I don’t think I’ll have this with spaghetti ever again. Lush!

TheRealShedSadie · 16/05/2022 21:18

And happy anniversary Pretty and happy losses to everyone (including cats).

For all us who are KOKO’ing, hold fast!

pinknsparkly · 16/05/2022 21:38

I've finally, in my fourth bootcamp, tried shroogled sprouts. I'm pretty sure I cooked them for too long as they went a little almost caramelized round the edges. They were absolutely delicious!! Had them with pesto chicken thighs and other green veg.

Couple of questions on shroogling.... I finely sliced the sprouts before putting them in the microwave but could I do it with whole, or halved, sprouts too? And can you do it with red cabbage or is that too hard and chunky a vegetable?

FinallyHere · 16/05/2022 21:55

shroogled sprouts

We have two schools of thought in our house. I love 'em whole (slightly crispy on the outside and soft inside ) and DH who prefers veg softer than I do cuts them up.

prettybird · 16/05/2022 21:55

I've only ever done them with whole sprouts so that's maybe why you're timings were a big out. But it's always good to experiment Smile

prettybird · 16/05/2022 21:58

BootCamp compatible starter, with delicious pink bubbly Smile

Another 1lb this week.

Today's food was :)

Breakfast - Greek yoghurt with chia seeds and blueberries.
Lunch- Cheddar, lettuce, cucumber and olives, and a cheese biscuits (favourite recipe from Fast 800 Keto book, 1g carb each and very yummy).
Dinner - Chicken fajitas with lettuce instead of wrap.
Sitting with a cocoa made from Cocoa powder, hot water and cream. Satisfies the chocolate craving and very low carb :)

APerfectlyGoodName · 16/05/2022 22:23

I think I could get my family to go for that Jax - Thank you!

I listening to a podcast on Atomic Habits - it reinforces a lot of what we are doing - manageable steady changes, rewards en route. I haven't posted loads but I'm loving all the tips and food ideas people are sharing.

I'm not PLANNING BC Lite - I have the occasional less successful day, or less successful meal but if I lower the target each day, I think I might be even worse!

I posted a 2lb loss this week - which is 5lbs overall. I'm delighted with that. I'm 166.2lbs and 164 was my best post bootcamp weight. My target is 160lbs for this BC and I think this is achievable. At 5ft8 that will put me in the healthy BMI range and a size 12/14 which I am happy with.

I was drinking 2-3L last week but as I had done considerable exercise, I don't think it was enough. That is my focus this week KOKO but MORE water. I have drunk 3L today, but no gym so OK.

B. Omelette, mushrooms & cheese. Creamy coffee.
L. Greek yogurt with cream & a tsp of peanut butter. 😋 (Lite without planning)
D. Bolognaise with a splash of added cream, green beans

Mercedesbenz2022 · 17/05/2022 06:27

Good advice @venusandmars
to make sure that extras are occasional and not every meal .
I have been guilty of this in the past and it end up that in reality you are falling off the wagon .
a little pact with myself that I will have 1 extra per day only

RagzRebooted · 17/05/2022 07:13

Checking in late this week, 1.2lb loss. Been a bit distracted as I have my first student to supervise from this week and I was really nervous about it. Went well yesterday though.

DH made a lovely LC dinner last night, pork shoulder steaks and a cabbage and onion side dish that had a creaky, cheese sauce. He's getting better at this!

RagzRebooted · 17/05/2022 07:13

Creamy, not creaky!

I love bolognaise on broccoli too. I had similar but with hm meatballs last time, delicious

Lougle · 17/05/2022 07:25

Morning all. I'm up another 0.8lb today 😣That means I've gained 1.8lb over the last 3 days. I didn't have any dairy yesterday, as per @BIWI suggestion. What is going on??

FusionChefGeoff · 17/05/2022 07:33

Hi all - I'm a long time low carber thanks to BIWI and Venusandmars and lots of other names I recognise! Been LC for over a year now and am maintaining / would like to drop last few lbs but not trying that hard!! I found the threads weren't great for my disordered eating which flared back up so I carried on with the WOE as it made me feel so good - but stepped back from the scales and the chat.

I seem to be on a more even keel now so thought I'd check in to say hi.

@Lougle one thing I noticed for me is that my weight varies massively day to day so sometimes I would show a 2-3lb gain or loss overnight!! That can't be fat it must be water - so if you happen to weigh on an up day then it will look like a gain but in reality it's not??

Lots of things affected it more mainly exercise (body holds onto water) and week before a period. But some days it was inexplicable!! Another reason I stepped away from regular weighing.

BIWI · 17/05/2022 07:40

@Lougle what's going on is that you are becoming obsessed with the scales!

Step away from the daily weighing.

Your body weight will fluctuate quite naturally on a daily basis, so it's silly to expect one day of no dairy to suddenly impact on things.

As we've already said, you don't have a huge amount to lose, so weight loss will be slower for you.

There are things I've already suggested that you could tweak, but you do need to allow time for these things to have an impact.

So:

  • check you're eating plenty of fat
  • lower/remove dairy
  • drink plenty of water
  • consider intermittent fasting
and also
  • look at your portion sizes
But all of this needs to be given time to work. You're not suddenly going to drop half a stone in a day.

Oh, and you commented about losing inches just the other day - so you know that it's working.

Morning All,
4lb loss this week so total 8lb NICE :)

@Lougle are you due period??

Lougle · 17/05/2022 08:00

@BIWI sorry.
@teraculum29 probably. I take the mini pill so don't get a real period but it's probably that time of the month.
