Week 2 - pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning campers!

This is my favourite week of a new Bootcamp. Because for all those new to low carbing, and especially those who were so fearful about the amount of fat they're supposed to be eating, this can be a real revelation.

It's often a real leap of faith to commit to a way of eating which is against everything we've been told, for the last 30 or 40 years, is bad for us. And yet, all the recent science confirms that lowering our carbohydrate intake can only be good for us - and that embracing fat is also good too!

Here's a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I look forward, very much, to seeing results of the first week. Somehow, from what people have already posted, I think it's going to be good!

Thank you @BIWI

@AthelstaneTheUnready Shock Hope you manage to get up to Glasgow ok.

All the flooding is a good demonstration of the need to COP - but unfortunately I don't see it achieving enough to make any material difference, if even people like Michael Howard who supposedly helped found the COP initiative is saying that the young environmentalists need to be more "realistic" and that what they want to happen is "too difficult" Hmm Yes, of course it's going to be fucking difficult Confused - young people understand that but commercial/corporate interests (and the governments in thrall to them) don't care/are only interested in their short term profits future. And we in the West built our wealth on damaging the planet - but now expect the poor countries, who didn't benefit, to pay the consequences Angry Anyway, rant over Wink

I can really see you in clothes like I wore last night - they'd really suit you Smile

After COP and the rain we really must meet up again for coffee. Brew

Just sending goodwill to all the low carbers here.
I have stuck to the rules well since I realised my nuts error and also swapped oat milk for almond milk or cream in my coffee. I have eaten a lot though ( been ill) but they have been the right things - just larger quantities.
I have had a couple of squares of 99% cocoa chocolate. So I'm not expecting a big loss really. I'm not too worried though as I'm peri menopausal and consider this to be how I eat from now on ( eg long term). I do understand that I need to stay away from anything sweet including fruit for this period to retrain my taste buds and I'm ok with that.

All in all I'm pretty happy with this way of eating so far.

I do think it would be logistically much harder for vegans so I applaud those of you who manage that successfully.

Sending happy Sunday vibes to you all 🤗

Happy Halloween to all!
It’s been a horrible morning for the weather here and our glum moods not improved by me & DS having to have a Covid test (he has an operation this coming Wednesday). Went to Aldi first, got stocked up on all the good stuff.
DH & the kids have requested sausages for tea, i’ve checked the carb content and they are low. I’ll have mine with a fried egg & fried brussel sprouts.
Hope everyone is doing well, looking forward to tomorrow morning x

It shows how draining interactions can lead you back to the sugar cupboard ...!!

This is so true! I am slinking back onto the thread with my head down after a draining interaction led me straight to alcohol and quality street Blush. My binge then continued on Saturday with white bread, millionaire shortbread, and more chocolate. Not sure why it affected me so much, normally if I have an indiscretion I can get back to it the next day easily enough but it just wasn't to be this weekend.

I can't wait for the kids to go back to school tomorrow, I will be running to the office as fast as my feet can carry me. Also thoroughly sick of my covid ridden DH who is on day 9 of moping around the house feeling sorry for himself (despite not even being slightly ill). I could very happily throttle him right now.

I have paired my binge with plenty of batch cooking for the week ahead so I have a chilli, homemade coleslaw, radish salad, and a lamb curry in the fridge. Must resist temptation! I might go back to having breakfast for a few days and see if that helps

ouchmyfeet · 31/10/2021 13:10

Sorry for your losses @prettybird , sounds like a tough week Thanks

MercedesBenz · 31/10/2021 13:10

Late brunch today
Bacon eggs tomato and mushrooms, toast for dp not for me
Felt hungry ( but not actually hungry ) this morning . Think that may have been down to eating some carbs ast night
Funny how I’ve been used to eating less but not feeling hungry

KeyLimePies · 31/10/2021 13:55

Sorry to hear your news @prettybird, what an awful week for you and everyone involved 💐

KeyLimePies · 31/10/2021 13:58

I just made it in time for the vegetarian challenge. Mushroom, spinach and cheese quiche type thing. Added jalapeños as I love them and add them to most things.

Is everyone doing boot camp light next week? I’m craving berries but don’t want to go too light. I might just add in berries but nothing else.

It's just too easy to go back to food to sort yourself out mood wise - but no point really. Good luck with getting back to it from now on ♥️

Ooo I’m off to Glasgow next week too! Just in and out for the day though as I couldn’t find any (reasonably priced) accommodation … that’ll be COP.

I have a new guilty guilt free pleasure … I bought the boys one of those hotel chocolat velvetiser things as we live in the middle of nowhere so don’t get the chance of nice hot chocolate very often. I’ve been making low carb hot chocolate with unsweetened almond milk and a couple of squares of 90% Lindt. It’s a pretty good treat after a meal instead of pudding 😋

prettybird · 31/10/2021 15:38

@Nutsaremynemesis - I would've put you up Smile

Nutsaremynemesis · 31/10/2021 17:41

Aw thanks anyway @prettybird. Our main office is in Borders so it’s not too far to skip west from there to Glasgow. But I like staying in Glasgow as you can get such fab curries there! I’ve a meeting at Monklands at 2pm and should be finished by 5 - then straight on the motorway back home to Yorkshire with a stop at Southwaite services for M&S picnic tea and a creamy coffee from Costa … then I’m working from home the rest of the week, yay!!! Piss poor planning turns me into a hangry carby twat when I’m travelling so I like to have a plan of action in place. Thank goodness for M&S simply food - their 3 for £7 deli things have kept me slim(ish) and sane for the last 5 years since I started boot camping 🤣 My favourite is buttered ham - pack of M&S wafer thin ham rolled around slices of butter, like a butter rollito. I was eating them in Wetherby services once and a bloke came up to me, Burger King bag in hand, and told me my food was really unhealthy and would give me a heart attack 🤣 How I laughed!!!

Heading to Scotland imminently - weighed this morning and another 1lb gone for me. It’s dark, wet and blowing a gale and I’m procrastinating as I don’t want to get in the car and drive north… and DH has just lit the fire. Cruel! Good luck with the weigh ins tomorrow everyone :-)

MerylSqueak · 31/10/2021 17:47

I agree @ouchmyfeet this is really making me realise how feeling a bit anxious drives me to 'treats' which for me is a glass of wine. I feel much better than I would have normally after feeling ill because I haven't but I did have a struggle. I just about got through by telling myself that a good night's sleep was my treat.

My go to dinner has become the thinly sliced ratatouille with Biwi's cheese sauce. I have substituted a bit of mace for the lemon juice. I like both but I prefer it with the tomato.

I'm just about to try making some quichey muffin affair.

missfliss · 31/10/2021 19:09

Successfully handed out millions of packs of mini Maltesers, and Cadbury's chocolates ( its Trick or Treat central round here) - not one has passed my lips!

Rayna37 · 31/10/2021 19:54

Not been perfect this weekend but at least I'm finding the endless kids birthday parties easier than anticipated. Dodged a plate of biscuits with ease yesterday and most people seem to plate up for the kids so there's no buffet to avoid.

I went to gym! I haven't stepped inside for years, normally I just swim there or run outside or do YouTube yoga. Half an hour on the cross trainer on a wet day was pretty good!

Lovely dinner of pork chop, spring greens, broccoli and some pumpkin mashed with a bit of cream cheese, Parmesan and garlic which was nice.

Good luck for all the weigh-ins tomorrow!

Peppermint tea on the go to top up my water intake.

FusionChefGeoff · 31/10/2021 21:51

@AthelstaneTheUnready that's where I am now! Thank God I travelled up yesterday and missed the worst of what's hit the south today.

@Nutsaremynemesis I am VERY glad my client is paying for my hotel it's extortionate!

Curries you say?!? I have a day off next week where should I go??

@KeyLimePies god that looks good is the recipe on the veggie thread?

Day 2 of 14 and im still on plan!! Hotel fry up then Broccoli and cauli soup at lunch supplemented by boiled eggs & coleslaw from home then meatballs for dinner. Managed a Tesco shop too so now have packs broccoli and asparagus which I can microwave to add to whatever hot stuff they have and also lots of salad bits and Mayo.

My cool box arrives tomorrow but for now I have an excellent ledge between my window and sliding secondary glazing which is the perfect temp!!

Week 3 chat thread is here

Angliski

Hello! Here I am again, desperate! I’m 5ft 2 and 15 stone sad it’s been a tough old road this year but I am determined. I KNOW how much easier it is to control my appetite once I get into this Bootxamp zone.

So I am joining if that’s ok?

Please help me be accountable- these first few days are the hardest for me.

Breakfast was
2 boiled eggs, 20g salmon, 20g goats cheese carrot cucumber and peppers and sauerkraut. Green tea.

KeyLimePies · 01/11/2021 09:33

@FusionChefGeoff - I haven't added the recipe to the veggie thread as I didn't measure things - I just based it loosely on a Diet Doctor recipe using up fridge gravel. Basically it was:

6 eggs whisked with some double cream and cream cheese, a bit of onion powder, s&p (white pepper)
fried chopped mushrooms and spring onion (fried until mushrooms are almost dry)
butter a baking dish
put mushroom mix at bottom
sprinkle over grated cheese (I used frozen grated emmental )
layer with baby spinach leaves
pour over the egg mix
top with more grated cheese (I used gruyere)
sprinkle with paprika and dot with jalapenos
bake at 160 for 25 - 30 mins or until done in the middle

Next time I'll add bacon lardons and may top with sliced tomato

BIWI · 01/11/2021 09:57

@KeyLimePies

Wrong thread! You need to move that over to the week 3 chat thread.
