Week 2 - pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning campers!

This is my favourite week of a new Bootcamp. Because for all those new to low carbing, and especially those who were so fearful about the amount of fat they're supposed to be eating, this can be a real revelation.

It's often a real leap of faith to commit to a way of eating which is against everything we've been told, for the last 30 or 40 years, is bad for us. And yet, all the recent science confirms that lowering our carbohydrate intake can only be good for us - and that embracing fat is also good too!

Here's a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I look forward, very much, to seeing results of the first week. Somehow, from what people have already posted, I think it's going to be good!

@Rayna37

I had "Moussaka boats" last night, always good. It's based on a recipe for toddlers! From the Raising Superheroes book which is a spin-off from Prof Tim Noakes Real Meal Revolution- he's a South African guy who first got my DH into LCHF after a few appearances on the Marathontalk podcast. I swapped to lamb mince from beef and added extra peppers. DH had his on spinach because he think there's no meal that cannot be improved by spinach
I rarely say this, but your DH is utterly, unchallengeably, right.

Sorry to hear your news Pretty Flowers

I'm back home now, after a few days on the Athel-patented wine only diet. Fridge full of brisket, chicken, various types of green veg, Fage. Just need to feel hungry and then I'm bang back on it.

There's been another shoot here today, so there may well be pheasant in my immediate future.

Sorry about the funerals, @prettybird Sad

Welcome 'home' @AthelstaneTheUnready! Flowers

Sounds like travel food is one of those things that needs some thought. Meals out seem easier to navigate.
Sorry to read about your news prettybird that’s so sad.

NotwatchingSpooks · 30/10/2021 17:37

@prettybird , so sorry to hear your news Flowers

Have had to change our half term plans today, as dh was contacted by a colleague who he was in a meeting with last week, colleague has just tested positive. So although dh is double jabbed, unfortunately he is not allowed to either fly with BA or enter France, (would fail the declarations) so our few nights away next week in France have had to be cancelled (sigh), once we got through to the correct person at BA it was easy, but pretty painful trying to navigate their phone lines.

On the plus side as long as he is okay and precautionary PCR is clear we will be able to go away in the UK if we can find anything. Its also probably better for bootcamp :)

Fridge empty, but am delighted to have pulled together a beef casserole from freezer. All totally bootcamp friendly. There were petitions for a takeaway, but I have managed to deflect them.

MercedesBenz · 30/10/2021 20:47

Another lb off 👍
Went out for a meal , mainly boot camp friendly but not totally so fingers crossed for Monday weigh in

@prettybird sorry to hear your news , so sad , take care

Wildheartsease · 30/10/2021 23:29

[Flowers] +0% Gin to all three of you; bereavement is a terrible weight to bear - whether expected or not.

Went out for pub meal - and enjoyed great ham and eggs but exchanged the chips for salad and mayo.

Thanks for the kind thoughts guys Thanks

Another one here with lots of Thanks and hugs for you @prettybird how awful Haloween Sad

I am getting good at travel / eating out now - hotel had a perfect cob salad - egg, bacon, cheese, chicken so I drowned it in Mayo and randomly they had sprouts and bacon as a side so I had that for good measure!

My cool box hasn't arrived yet but my window has a sill with sliding double glazing so I put a few emergency bits that I'd brought from home (boiled eggs, hm coleslaw, olives, Mayo) on there overnight and chilled nicely! Also have olives and nuts. Washed up my collapsing lunchbox last night so that's all ready to go again.

I don't usually eat breakfast plus it's not included in my room rate but plan today is a later start than usual so I'm heading down to stock up so if the crew food is as bad as suspected I'm nicely full and fed anyway.

Ontherebound34 · 31/10/2021 07:38

Condolences prettybird Flowers.

Rayna37 · 31/10/2021 08:45

Tried a lovely new recipe last night from the Green Roasting tin- aubergine with tomatoes, harissa and almonds, which we are with a roasted Turkey leg. It was great, probably gave it a longer cook and the aubergine because deliciously soft and savoury. Also had the scallops as a starter that had been in the freezer a while so a real treat. Enjoying using the dining room more than we used to now we finally have a new table, cloth, mats, napkins and rings. Luxury at home!

BelladiMamma · 31/10/2021 09:29

@prettybird so sorry to hear your news Thanks

I've been ducking and diving with the low carb and doing pretty well so long as I stick to veggie not vegan.

Only break all week was yesterday when I had a hot chocolate (with water) and 3 jumbo marshmallows.

Have lost 2 kgs, but weight has fluctuated this week as I'm due on

BIWI · 31/10/2021 09:41

Ducking and diving because of vegan issues is one thing @BelladiMamma, but why the hot chocolate and marshmallows?! That will have been a huge amount of sugar added to your day that you really don't need.

... and don't try to fool yourself that it's your period that's impacting on your weight loss.

This is not a forgiving WOE, and cheating really doesn't work.

Last night i didn't do as well as I'd hoped. Had half a slice of bread and some pudding and far to much wine. Plus side the far to much wine means Im fasting this morning!!!

DH is making me bacon and eggs while I go walk the dog to shake off the hangover then getting ready for half a dozen squeeling 11 year olds later.

Food will be unpredictable today! Hopefully the breakfast and walk will sort me! Dinner is roast pork loin with vegetables and a cheeseboard for pudding. Lunch probably omlette (thinking spinach and goats cheese). Ive already had all the water!!

Sorry BIWI but it was a special occasion and I am right back on it this morning.

OUCH THE STICK OF DOOM HURTS

I shad a very disappointing evening with a new friend who conducted the whole meet up like it was a monologue. I felt completely drained and was on auto pilot

Other than last night I've done a pretty good job 👍🏻 I think 🤔 and feel lighter as my waist recedes
Ontherebound34 · 31/10/2021 10:02

I have been doing pretty well this week, staying away from the nuts... Another couple of pounds off this week. I am now only 0.34 of a BMI point into the overweight range so very nearly into the healthy range. I’m pretty pleased given that I was obese a couple of years ago. Today, I am making a slow cooker bolognese which I will have with broccoli and Parmesan for dinner.

prettybird · 31/10/2021 10:03

All that water last night had an effect: I was up 4 times during the night needing to go to the loo! Shock

Noavocado · 31/10/2021 10:20

Hello Everyone. Would it be possible to join you all from tomorrow? I have been following this Boot Camp from the start but have never done any low carbing before and was a little nervous to sign up.

My start weight was 11b3. I lost. 5lb in week 1 and have lost a further 3lb up to this morning.
I am over the moon Smile

BIWI · 31/10/2021 10:27

@BelladiMamma you have done really well, especially as I know it's a struggle to make low carbing work alongside veganism! But don't undo all your good efforts. It's depressingly easy to do that. It takes ages to get the weight off, but a nanosecond to put it back on.

PastramiNoRye · 31/10/2021 10:27

Managed to circumnavigate a Halloween party last night thanks to Nanny State (great recommendation)! Food was a standing bbq so used my burger bun as a holder for the burger then binned the bread.

BIWI · 31/10/2021 10:29

@Noavocado you are very welcome! And how well you've done
Flowers

You need to prepare yourself, though (along with everyone else) that weeks 3 & 4 are infamous for seeing little or no loss - possibly even a slight gain, even if you are abiding by all the rules.

We know that this happens, so don't beat yourself up about it if you don't see any movement on the scales over the next two weeks. Just KOKO and it will get going again in week 5 onwards.

Thank you 😊

It shows how draining interactions can lead you back to the sugar cupboard ...!!

BIWI · 31/10/2021 10:37

Oh yes. If losing weight was just about the rational, it would be very easy. Unfortunately, we look to food - and especially sweet, sugary things - as rewards on more emotional occasions.

Love the outfit. Really love the disapproving Pink Cardigan in the background Halloween Grin

Am slightly proud of myself for making dinner with more than two ingredients last night - chicken wrapped in cheese wrapped in bacon, with broccoli. Leftovers for today too, so that's sorted.

Mainly gaping at river levels here today (south Scotland). Am supposed to be in Glasgow later this week to meet some COP colleagues, but the train line has, er, washed away.
