2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

Green shaksuka sounds amazing nowlook, we’re big fans of the red version so will definitely be trying this

BIWI · 22/10/2021 12:32

@nowlook

It amazing, isn't it *@venusandmars*? Grin

Imagine the Scrabble score of that ingredient list!

Hah! I actually thought about working that out, until I actually clicked on the ingredients list!

Also, according to my Renpho scales, I'm getting younger . (Metabolic age, that is).

I've not hit this milestone yet, would love to get it down one!! was a bit gutted on my birthday that the metabolic age shifted up by one too Blush

ouchmyfeet · 22/10/2021 13:04

Bold fail Envy

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/10/2021 13:04

You'll get there, @ouchmyfeet . Eyes on the prize!

nowlook · 22/10/2021 13:18

I watched a frankly terrible film Miles and ouch based on the premise that the only currency was time. Everybody worked for time, paid for things in time etc. Once you were past 25, you had only 24 hours without needing more time or, alternatively, dying. Now, if your family was rich, they could give you loads of inherited time so you never died. Spunk 35 years on a fancy meal. Conversely, if you couldn't get a job, you died pretty much straight away.

Anyhoo. The point is that this allowed the director to cast only 25 year old beautiful bodies, even if some of them were notionally 375 in the film.

That'll be you one day, ouch.

In Time, starring Justin Timberlake, available in all Blockbuster outlets from 2011.

Your post about change of mindset venusandmars was really interesting. I think that’s key- thinking of eating this way as a new normal.
I have made a spaghetti squash, proscuttio and butter lunch. Very tasty although the squash looked a bit splodgy rather than spaghetti like.

Off to drink more water!

kerkyra · 22/10/2021 13:29

I'm having an Indian takeaway tonight to celebrate doing five weeks of LC. I know the spinach in cheese starter will be fine and a tandori dish, but I really fancy something saucy. Dhansak is definitely out as has lentils but not sure if a tomato base is better than a cream.I expect creamy ones have alot of sugar?
Would a balti be ok,i will avoid the nann and popudoms ofcourse!

Aderyn21 · 22/10/2021 13:37

Hey, I liked 'In Time' have lowbrow tastes
DH made me a coffee this morning and accidentally put a little bit of halfspoon sweetener in it - it tasted wrong already and we've only been doing this a few days.
Had corned beef slices and a little chunk of brie with picked gherkins for breakfast - if I didn't know better I'd think I was pregnant, I had a proper craving for pickles!
Not an ideal breakfast but have run out of eggs again family are locusts. Shopping (again) later, but dentist first. Such is the glamour of my life.

I was really excited about the idea of spaghetti squash but realised the texture is a bit odd and really you'd be as well with chunks of regular squash. I do make courgetti and we have mashed swede or celeriac but generally I do without faking stuff and just have veg as a side in its own right. We'd do well if we didn't stray too far from meat/fish and two veg (as long as neither is potato)!

Just popped out for lunch yes DS will be very cute in his new pumpkin costume and my table will look lovely with the new mats and napkins and was hit by the extraordinary size of the queue for the drive through McDonalds and the near unavoidable array of sugary UPFs on offer in Poundland!

nowlook · 22/10/2021 13:48

Oh, sorry @Aderyn21 Grin

Don't mind me- I'm an old cynic who couldn't get over the fact that literally everyone in the film was portrayed by a 25 year old actor!

FusionChefGeoff · 22/10/2021 13:52

Thanks all for the commiserations! Already got quite a bit sorted - and thanks @Glenthebattleostrich that Parmesan herb salmon combo is baking nicely now!

@ouchmyfeet Also love the idea of tacos rather than chilli so going to try that.

Unfortunately the burger idea is off the table due to the 4 burgers already included in the defrosted pile that are on the menu for tonight!!

@ditavonteesed come on over! As long as you're not veggie

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch what a great sustained loss for you - well done

@0DAAT I remember feeling very weak after long runs for the first couple of months. For about a month I think I had gels during then slowly weaned myself off them. Then at one point I was running and at about 6/7 miles when I suddenly had this massive rush / realisation that I felt AMAZING and it's been like that ever since. Smile

I also swapped my bottle of water for a 2l bladder even on shorter runs. After all, we need the water to release the fat which is what we use as fuel so I need LOTS of water to keep up with 13 miles!

prettybird · 22/10/2021 13:53

In terms of "change of mindset", I no longer think twice about putting oven chips, pasta or rice on for dh and not having any myself Smile

At the moment, while I'm trying to lose weight, I'm happy to cook roast potatoes for dh and my dad. On special occasions (like Christmas) or when I'm in maintenance mode (sometimes, between Boot Camps, even though I'm not yet at my target weight), I'm happy just having a single roast potato. And iirc, last Christmas I didn't even finish the one I'd served myself Xmas Shock

FusionChefGeoff · 22/10/2021 13:53

@nowlook I take lots of resolutions / motivations from posters on here and today's is "use the word gash more often" GrinGrin

Rayna37 · 22/10/2021 13:56

I definitely had a mindset change and though a moderator rather than an abstainer, I haven't cooked rice/pasta/potato based meals for 5 years or maybe quite a bit more! Definitely no juice or fizzy drinks. We have plenty of exceptions especially when not actively trying to lose weight as we both tolerate carbs fairly well so legumes once a fortnight, and higher carb veg are ok, bread/toast features a bit, the occasional sweet potato, pie, beer, cake, and if eating out while I avoid pasta and risotto there's definitely chips and pizza now and again (not together, I'm not an animal)! But the basics are there, with most meals of the week being LCHF and those that aren't aiming for quality and not ultra-processed junk. Not perfect at it hence back on bootcamp but this WOE is very much my view of a healthy way of life rather than a niche/fad diet.

Dellabob123 · 22/10/2021 14:12

Hi everyone, catching up with today’s posts..moves quickly!

I’m the same as you @prettybird- I can easily cook potatoes/pasta/toast for everyone else and I do t even think about it anymore.

Be just got back from uni (v.mature student) and had coffee and cream for breakfast. Got home and boiled up some eggs and mashed then in butter with a little marmite and cheese. Toasted muffins for the others and I didnt even feel deprived!

Mit sure what’s on tonight’s menu - but that pork dish last night was amazing. Thanks @BIWI

FusionChefGeoff · 22/10/2021 14:16

I'll get back to work in a minute....

See now I'm fine with savoury carbs - only white bread cheese or ham sandwiches make me a bit wistful

But I definitely haven't had my sweet tooth turned off yet and can't imagine a time when that's a thing so I take heart from the stories of others who have.

FusionChefGeoff · 22/10/2021 14:17

Oh and the fecking dishwasher decided to join the freezer in its crappy non functional protest today. FML.

nowlook · 22/10/2021 14:26

I might have jinxed your dishwasher @FusionChefGeoff

Was only thinking (when you were asking earlier) how we all used to cook salmon in the dishwasher. Perhaps people still do?!

Dellabob123 · 22/10/2021 14:38

Eek- sorry about your appliance glitches @FusionChefGeoff

I was passing the works today and picked up this...some nice inspiration and I also like how it states the carb count..which not technically boot camp, I still like to roughly stay low. Never posted pic before so hope it works.

Let us know how you get on with that @Dellabob123
Monya gets very good reviews, so fingers crossed.

Dellabob123 · 22/10/2021 15:09

I didn’t know that @nowlook thanks. Some of the recipes look delicious. I do like to have inspiration easily to hand.
Will definitely update as I work my way through.

NotwatchingSpooks · 22/10/2021 16:18

FusionChefGeoff commiserations on the demise of your appliances, hope you manage to replace them okay. We had to replace our dishwasher this year and it is so much better than the old one, it was almost worth it. However, I did not bother to do any research before I rang the shop, I only did so once I found out what was available as at the time there was very little choice.

I’ve managed to find celaric in Waitrose, so bought 4 of the little f…kers, I was so pleased I almost did a happy dance in the aisle 🤭.

We are having leftover beef casserole tonight, with some fab LCHF veg dishes, all inspired by this thread so celaric mash, cauliflower cheese and broccoli.

ShagMeRiggins · 22/10/2021 17:31

I nearly peed my pants today. Out and about with All The Water! Shag would be proud.

Indeed, I am proud you only nearly peed your pants—it can be tough—and equally proud you were swanning about with all the water.

Today was my motorbike course and I brought three bottles of water, but we were told to just leave our things in the office space before going to the practice area.

Big mistake. No water for me between 9-3. Wtf?! Oh, and also no lunch break. Until I finally piped up (erm, after my third crash, this one through the barriers) and said “you know what? It’s 3pm and I haven’t had anything to drink or eat since I arrived at 7.30am. This isn’t helping my concentration.”

Reader, we were then given a lunchtime break. Hallelujah.

WATER WATER WATER!!!
