2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

You can bake them with eggs etc in the middle @Nutsaremynemesis. I do find it quite tricky not to make them bitter, though. Works about 50% of the time Grin.

nowlook · 20/10/2021 10:18

...and if you're a fan of thai curries, you can puree avocado and add to the sauce for taste/thickness.

Nutsaremynemesis · 20/10/2021 10:26

Ooo I will try a baked one for lunch - thanks @nowlook

The Thai sauce sounds amazing - cauliflower Thai curry it is 😋

TrueGrit54 · 20/10/2021 11:06

Hi everyone, no breakfast for me (been low carbing all year), lunch is wild smoked salmon and 2 eggs scrambled in butter, dinner is chicken thighs, spinach, roast cauliflower. Sliced lemon in water is a help, bought a cucumber too but haven’t tried that yet, did not like AF Brewdog sadly (I think real ale drinkers might enjoy it but going from white wine to that didn’t work for me). Hope everyone has a good day.

ListenLinda · 20/10/2021 11:09

Just been to sainsburys, got stocked up on the FLGV again. Sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, double cream, their taste the diff greek yoghurt. I am feeling good today. I forgot the bloody mayo though, we only have low fat in the house so will have to swap my planned lunch.
Tea is my favourite, pork belly slices with allll the veg. Potatoes for DH though alongside his helping. He had some nice words for me though, when I told him I was back on BC. He said good! I’ve never seen you enjoy a diet so much. A diet, the poor fool. He will learn Grin

All this talk of curry has made up my mind for tomorrow nights tea, thanks everyone!

fluoropostit · 20/10/2021 11:12

Baked salmon with mayo last night. Asparagus, green beans and broccoli with melted butter.

Boiled eggs for brekkie, black coffee.

Going to have chicken and mushrooms for dinner, left over spag Bol with courgette and melted cheese for lunch.

ouchmyfeet · 20/10/2021 11:15

I made a really disappointing curried cauliflower soup yesterday, too thin and just a bit tasteless. I'm currently roasting the celeriac that I had earmarked for the celeriac curry so will roast that until it's as soft as it will go and then bung it in the soup with a load more salt and blitz the lot 🤞

SamuelWhiskey · 20/10/2021 11:19

@prettybird thanks for that. Will carry on with it then - and I'll give the cinnamon a go too

nowlook · 20/10/2021 11:57

Glad you're feeling brighter @ListenLinda. How's DD doing?

BIWI · 20/10/2021 12:29

@ListenLinda why don't you make your own mayo? It's really easy! (Recipe is up thread I think)

@Nutsaremynemesis that looks yum.
That’s tomorrow’s breakfast sorted Grin

nowlook · 20/10/2021 12:53

Well done, Nuts!

H1Drangea · 20/10/2021 13:11

@Nutsaremynemesis I like an avocado omlette
Just make an omlette ( I like fried bacon pieces in mine , , add eggs season well , . When almost cooked add the slices of avocado , fold over and serve )

HauntingHazel · 20/10/2021 13:35

BIWI can you see my weight on the spreadsheet now? I don't remember exactly when I added it on Monday, but I'm also in the US, so 7 hours behind you. I just want to make sure I didn't miss a step while adding my numbers.
This thread does move very fast, but lots of ideas for meals. I don't eat breakfast anymore either, haven't for a couple of years now, since starting keto 2018 (cut out breakfast in 2019, but still have 2 cups of coffee with cream only in it). I have been struggling the past year or so, mostly doing LCHF, but having weak moments.
This thread is the perfect motivation that came at the perfect time!

ListenLinda · 20/10/2021 13:41

@nowlook she is much better today, much like her usual self :)

@BIWI I never thought of that! I’m off to find it Smile

KeyLimePies · 20/10/2021 13:44

Hi everyone, I’ve just caught up with the thread and loving the tips from people, especially @nowlook for the Thai curry and avocado tip and @HappyLion2021 for the cauli cheese link (I’m going to have that tonight with fried pork chops and broccoli 😋). I’ve also got a few Ottolenghi books @JumperandJacket and think there will be some good ideas for low carb veggie dishes in there for next week’s challenge.

I felt a bit ropey yesterday (headache, sniffles, no energy) it couldn’t be carb-flu so quickly though could it? I only started the challenge on Monday. I feel a bit better today but still not great, I’m really tired too. Ploughing on though and not giving into carby temptation.

I weighed today out of interest and have made a decent loss already so hoping next weeks weigh-in will have me doing a little happy dance.

WATER…

Aderyn21 · 20/10/2021 13:46

Good afternoon all.
I made a green veg soup, which is actually really nice with a blob of creme fraiche. I don't think I've ever made soup without potato before. Thank you to the poster who suggested putting less water in it.
Not sure if these are allowed but I had a whey protein shake for breakfast made with unsweetened almond milk - was about 5-6g carb. I figured it was better than missing breakfast since that is one of the rules and I forgot to buy more eggs.
Have also been eating celery with boursin and a chunk of cheddar, so no more cheese for me today.
For people missing alcohol, the Seedlip spice 'gin' is very nice and is carb free. The fevertree light tonics are also nice and around 4g carb per small can. I intend to get a lot of this for Christmas because it feels like a real drink but without the calories and making me all fuzzy headed.
I also had a FB ad for pureheavenly.com/
I have bought it before and thought it might be nice when the first 2 weeks are up or for Christmas, when everyone else is elbow deep in the Quality Street.

catwithflowers · 20/10/2021 14:01

My low carb dinner last night was a little bit odd as I'm trying to use up bits from the freezer before we (hopefully 🙈🙏🏻) move house in December. I defrosted a beef bourguignon and some shortcrust pastry left over from a quiche I made last week and made a sort of steak pie but obviously I didn't have the crust.

Served with puréed celeriac (cooked with loads of butter and a bit of double cream) and sweetheart cabbage steamed for a few minutes then fried in butter. So delicious. Celeriac is something I never really tried until I started low carbing and now it's one of my favourite vegetables!

Wildheartsease · 20/10/2021 14:01

Love the recipes so far!
I am not missing my usual sandwich.

ShagMeRiggins · 20/10/2021 14:07

I was inundated with chocolates and wine when our 4year olds left for school

Well I want to be in your family or group of friends, KateF because I received no such inundations when mine started school. Is that a thing now?

ZiggZagg perhaps I could create a sound bite and upload it so you can set a regular alarm on your phone to go off at intervals with my voice saying WATER WATER WATER! I would record different versions to maintain variety. (Does anyone know if it’s possible to upload sound to MN posts? That would be a hoot.)

Also, what’s SLCR?

Dellabob123 · 20/10/2021 14:10

@catwithflowers sounds yum - celeriac became one of my favourite veg since low carb...previously unheard of!

Just pimped my leftover beef and veg ragu to make chilli and added grated cheese and sour cream. Yum.

Tonic chat comes round earlier every bootcamp Grin

There are many zero carb tonics in supermarkets' own-label ranges, but these will all include sweeteners of some shape, form or description.

This brand uses a natural sweetener called stevia:
skinny tonic

Doesn't agree with all (if you're IBS prone like me, look away now!), but a decent product.

Similarly, gallybird

nowlook · 20/10/2021 14:11

It's that seriously low carb bread, @ShagMeRiggins

Makes me bloated.

Wildheartsease · 20/10/2021 14:12

Put your chopped avocado into a stirfry (just before serving) and warm it through. This works if the avocado is a little too firm to enjoy cold.

-Lovely with chicken or fish ones but good with just veg and spices too.
