Hello and welcome to week 5 of our mini-Bootcamp. If you've had the usual week 3 / week 4 weight loss stall then the scales should get moving again now. And we've all got a couple of weeks to really try to finish strong and get the best results we can get.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here. I can't wait to find out how everyone is doing so don't just add your weight to the spreadsheet; let us know on this thread.

I'll put a reminder of the Bootcamp Light rules in the next post.

I love the breadth at Scottish unis. Dd applied to Edinburgh and at Andrews. Didn't get an offer from St as but did from Edinburgh. We are down south though so she chose Exeter as didn't want to be too far from home for various reasons. She's disappointed not to be able to study a wider range of subjects but hey ho

@Dellabob123 it isn't a stall! You've just come to the end of the infamous weeks 3 & 4.

Dellabob123 · 01/09/2021 11:22

Thanks @BIWI I started this on 22nd June so 10th week and bounced the same 2lb for about 6 of those. I only really want to lose another 3lbs and finding it just not shifting. But age might mean that’s my happy body weight and I can just continue on this woe happily and not fret about those last lbs??!!!!

BestIsWest · 01/09/2021 11:33

Does anyone take any multivitamins? I’m finding that I’m lacking in energy at the moment, especially between 4pm and 6 some days when a slump hits - on occasion I’ve been too tired to eat.
I’m getting plenty of veg and eating well but feel I’m missing something. The only supplement I take is vit D as I have history with that.
I need to start getting back to the gym - I was a regular swimmer before lockdown but can’t summon up the will to go.

prettybird · 01/09/2021 11:40

I've been taking a Vitamin D and a magnesium tablet. Both are running out, so I've just bought a 50+ multi-vitamin and some more magnesium (as the multivitamin only gave 27% of the RDA for magnesium).

I also try to bath regularly in Epsom Salts.

ouchmyfeet · 01/09/2021 11:45

Spreadsheet is now up to date and sorted. Also including a small holiday gain from me Blush

6 days till kids go back to school. I'm in survival mode till then

Kerplunkk · 01/09/2021 11:50

take Magnesium, Vit D and folic acid (I’m also having B12 injections but my folate was very low on blood tests)
I occasionally do a 2 month cycle of iron & b complex which usually perks me up a bit.

Not posted this week's weight or rather, gave myself a day or so to recover from my dad's meal as it was his "turn" on Sunday BlushWink

Down to 11st 4.25lb Smile Only another couple of pounds to go to get to where I'd got to pre-Christmas Xmas Smile

Haven't been running as I can still feel my Achilles' tendon. I've bought new shoes but haven't run in them yet. Dh persuaded me not to make the problem
Worse before seeing the physio this evening Blush I did do my DVD this morning though - but I do that barefoot.

BestIsWest · 01/09/2021 14:09

I forgot that I do use a magnesium spray too. I was wondering about B12 so will add that too.

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/09/2021 14:23

I take the electrolytes BIWI recommended and nothing else apart from HRT Smile

@BestIsWest are you eating all the fat and drinking all the water?

If you're too tired to eat in the afternoon, that suggests that you're not getting enough fat/protein - and/or your carbs are too high at lunchtime.

BestIsWest · 01/09/2021 14:42

I’m finding I don’t want breakfast so it could be that I need more at lunchtime. Today was a salmon fillet with salad in a oily dressing and a bit of cheese. Yesterday was a buttery omelette with some creamed spinach. And some walnuts on both occasions.
I don’t get going on the water until after lunch though - I have 3 cups of tea with almond milk in the morning. Maybe I need to drink more in the mornings.

Dellabob123 · 01/09/2021 18:05

Changed my dinner plans and having a lamb curry with all the veg under the sun Grin

FusionChefGeoff · 01/09/2021 18:12

I've got this to eat tonight from the garden..... can't for life of me work out if I should fill my boots (ie it's like courgette squash) or go easy (butternut squash) - can't make head nor tail of the info in this post either..

theunconventionalgardener.com/blog/a-squash-that-tastes-like-mashed-potato/

Per 148g portion, ‘Mashed Potato’ has 23 calories against potato with 110; 2.25% carbohydrate against 9%; 9% dietary fibre against 7%.

Does 2.25% mean 2.25g per 100g?? But no because the comparable for potato is 9% and potato is higher than 9g I think??

FusionChefGeoff · 01/09/2021 18:32

Ok so does this make sense:

Potato = 19g = 9%
1% = 19/9 = 2.1g

My dinner = 2.25% x 2.1g = 4.22g per 100g

??????

I had my first annual Hb1Ac blood test yesterday (having been pre-diabetic prior to pregnancy and gestational diabetes during pregnancy).... It came back as pre-diabetic. I'm absolutely gutted! I was already being mindful of sugars prior to joining the low carb bootcamp and hoped that 4 and a bit weeks of the bootcamp would also help my blood result. I've got an appointment with a dietician in October to discuss it. I'll pick myself up soon enough but I'm feeling really deflated at the moment Sad

Rayna37 · 02/09/2021 15:24

Been AWOL again, not entirely on plan still and off for two weeks in the campervan from tomorrow with some nice restaurants planned too. Will keep reading and enjoying the thread, chipping in as and when and hope I find a "back to school", post-holiday fresh start vibe for when I get back.

ditavonteesed · 02/09/2021 15:43

@pinknsparkly hba1c is kind of a measure of your average sugars over about a 6 month period. Is it the same as it was or lower? A lot people who get diagnosed as prediabetic go on to become diabetic after a fairly short time without diet adjustments so the fact that your still pre diabetic is really good. This woe is supposed to be really good for insulin and sugar control so I reckon you should koko and you'll get there hopefully. Do you only get an annual blood test? Wouldn't it be good if you could have one in 3 months to check again.

pinknsparkly · 02/09/2021 16:10

@ditavonteesed - my GP said that it was an average over 3 months rather than 6 (as I had my post baby one done at 12 weeks and it couldn't be sooner than that)? Which was why I'd hope that 4.5 weeks on low carb bootcamp would help. I don't actually know my numbers as my GP app access isn't working at the moment. But my result at 12 weeks post partum came back as normal.

I don't know if I'll have more regular blood tests (I'm seeing a dietician in mid October). I'd hope I can as the annual tests are to check that you've developed pre-diabetes or diabetes!
