Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp - week 5

StuntNun · 30/08/2021 06:24

Hello and welcome to week 5 of our mini-Bootcamp. If you've had the usual week 3 / week 4 weight loss stall then the scales should get moving again now. And we've all got a couple of weeks to really try to finish strong and get the best results we can get.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here. I can't wait to find out how everyone is doing so don't just add your weight to the spreadsheet; let us know on this thread.

I'll put a reminder of the Bootcamp Light rules in the next post.

@pinknsparkly may I ask you how you got in with the bunion op? I'm thinking of having one of my feet done privately. It hursts in even wide fit shoes (let alone heels!) though fine in shoes with knit uppers, and the toe joint is stiff. I always feel like I want to crack it even though I can't iyswim. I'm nervous because I hear the recovery is horrendous plus the cost of course. Sorry to derail the thread!

Stressful day for me today - just a set of unexpected circumstances but I managed to stay on track and it’s my shopping day and didn’t end up buying junk.

Brunch - Greek yoghurt
Late lunch/early dinner - sardines W spinach and courgettes discs (needed to use up) and grated cheese.
Will have some scrambled egg with spinach if I’m hungry later on.
Doing well with the water too.

@ValancyRedfern well done so far, it get easier, this is the longest I’ve ever stuck to an eating plan and I can easily see myself doing it long term (with the odd day for a meal out etc)

I'm very surprised that 5lb has stayed off so far. I've spent the week with six incontinent 3 year olds whose fond parents think they potty trained them over the bank holiday. Needless to say, they didn't! I badly wanted doughnuts and chocolate by Friday but took a box of biscuits home for Christmas instead.

That baked cod recipe sounds lovely. I got some yellow stickered cod today in Morrisons so I'll try it.

I really need to get back on the water this week. I've just been so busy at work it gets to lunchtime and I realise I've drunk nothing all morning.

@pinknsparkly I wish DH would join me but he's really not a fan of the usual replacements eg courgettes / cabbage / cauliflower / mushrooms so would find his diet very protein and fat heavy without the necessary FLGV I fear.

@Kerplunkk I wish I could be as hunger driven as you are - I often eat because it's dinner time Blush and for something to do to add excitement to the day.

Ate too much Lindt 90% after a very good day. Been smashing the water (herbal tea counts doesn't it?!) and had fathead pizza for the first time in a while. Also roasted a big batch of Med veg with feta and basil to have for the next few days.

It's going to be BBQ central looking at the forecast!!

Me and kids still testing negative so Mum and Dad came and took them to the park for a few hours today to give me a break which was ace.

Mum asked me how my 'diet' was going and I sort of shrugged and said 'it's just the way I eat now really' which is basically where I'm at now. There's times I'm stricter (like now so staying off the berries / almond muffins / nuts etc) then there'll be the odd falling off the wagon plus hopefully some decent chunks of BC light in the mix. But that's how I see me from now on.

Which is a good feeling considering how many benefits I can see and feel - and the ones I can't

Whispering very quietly, but I did a cheeky weigh in This morning and seem to have shifted the 2 lbs that I have been bouncing for 6 weeks. Shhhhh

On another note, I tried one of the board recipes last night - keto chicken Alfredo with cauliflower - it was amazing!!!

Did extra rice for dh and he loved it! Definitely in my regular meals plan now!

Kerplunkk · 05/09/2021 18:49

@FusionChefGeoff oh I am definitely not at the complete hunger driven stage yet but I’m finding it a lot easier.
Someone mentioned the simple fasting app on here….thank you whoever did as it’s been a big motivator to stop me eating in the evenings for the sake of it (babybels & Greek yoghurts I’m looking at you!) and it is so satisfying in the morning seeing I’ve been in ‘fat burning mode’ for so many hours Grin
I did a cheeky weigh in today as I don’t think I’ll have been to toilet to clear out before I leave for work, I’ve only lost half of a lb, but I’m on my period (again! I have such a short cycle) so I’m hoping next week will show more.
BUT my main take away from this bootcamp is that I am quite happy to never let a piece of bread pass my lips again, it’s really changing my eating habits for the better

Kerplunkk · 05/09/2021 18:50

Well done @Dellabob123
Think I’ll give that recipe a try too, it sounds delicious

Dellabob123 · 05/09/2021 19:22

@Kerplunkk It really was delicious. My dh was mopping it up...I did t put quite the full amount of Parmesan in as it was too much for my taste...I think I did half and it was perfect.

I had roast carrots tonight with my roast dinner - they were delicious and part of my experiment to see how an extra few carbs from veg might impact me after 10weeks of LC.

Will keep you posted

pinknsparkly · 05/09/2021 20:10

@Dellabob123 - that r3cipe sounds amazing! I'm about to do a food order for this week so will add that to the list Grin

@FusionChefGeoff - I was incredibly surprised that he offered, as my husband is similar to yours in that he doesn't choose to eat much veg. I've slowly added more veg to his plate over the years but thought I'd have to prise carbs out of his cold, dead hands! Though he's already said that he'll still be eating carbs for breakfast and lunch when I'm not around Wink

@Mimosa1 - honestly, the surgeries (I had both feet done individually) were the best thing I've ever done. It is a long slow recovery period, and even now I get shocks of pain shooting up my feet sometimes. They do still ache and hurt after a day in my feet but they are a million times better than they were. I was similar to you, I'd be genuinely unable to walk home from the train station after work due to the pain of being on my feet in super comfy wide fit shoes all day. The flexibility in my toes are pretty poor, so I physically can't bend my feet enough to get into heels more than a couple of inches but I never wear heels any more (and destroyed any dreams of taking up ballet dancingGrin). A lady who had surgery the same day as me had both feet done at the same time as she couldn't afford to take two periods of sick pay (she was a self employed cleaner so on her feet all day) so that might be an option to consider, though I spent my entire 6 week recovery period hopping on one foot as I found the crutches such a pain to use, which would have been impossible if I'd had both feet done! I was in my early 20s when I had them done, and was warned that due to my age I'll likely need the operations repeated when I'm older. And I will 100% do it again if needed.

pinknsparkly · 06/09/2021 07:20

I've lost a grand total of 0.2lb in TWO weeks (I was away last Monday and kept forgetting to weigh in)... I suppose it's not a gain, but it's a bit frustrating when I've spent the weekend turning down puddings and giving my roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings to my little one!
