Low carb breakfasts when you don’t love eggs

Cecily42 · 24/01/2021 11:01

Hello, I am looking for ideas for low carb breakfasts when I don’t love eggs. I can eat some egg but not every day. I also don’t feel like Greek yoghurt fill me up and not keen on processed meat like bacon and sausages. Oh and it has to be quick and portion not too big so no leftover curry /dinner. I like porridge but only with honey and trying to avoid sugar.
Is there anything left for me?

To be honest, I like eggs but don’t always want them. They’re are ground almond recipes about and there’s always avocado. But I find it easier to just not have breakfast. I know it’s against boot camp rules but I’m use to it know and fine without it.

Low carb bread toasted with topping of your choice? Waitrose do one which is 3.9g per (tiny) slice.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/01/2021 11:19

Yes, I sometimes have a slice of the Waitrose bread (LivLife) with almond butter. Quite tasty and fills me up enough.

Overnight oats with chia seeds for protein. Sweeten with mashed banana or dried fruits? Quite filling.

There are loads of recipes online for flourless ‘bread’, cake etc

Have a look at breakfasts from other parts of the world eg ham with tomatoes, olives and grapes and cheese.

I have a relative who makes a batch of kedgeree, portions it up and them microwaves a pot for breakfast. I know it is rice based but you could adjust it.

Do you like fish? Kippers are fairly traditional but Japanese breakfast often includes grilled fish, in particular salmon.

partyatthepalace · 24/01/2021 11:38

I had this issue - I now have porridge with yogurt and fruit on top. You can stir in protein powder if you want, or peanut butter.

And then the same as bircher in summer.

Oats, bananas and dried fruit are not low carb though.

Vege sausages? Tofu scramble?

JamMakingWannaBe · 24/01/2021 11:42

Coconut berry smoothie. One can coconut milk, 100g mixed frozen berries (not bananas), dash vanilla extract, tablespoon or two of quark or greek yoghurt. Blitz in blender. Makes 2 portions.

blue25 · 24/01/2021 11:48

If you put nuts & seeds on your Greek yoghurt, it might fill you up more. I have this most days with berries. Also, rye bread with avocado or nut butter. Scrambled tofu with mushrooms or tomatoes.

MillieEpple · 24/01/2021 11:52

I used to eat a smoked mackerel but thats processed.

Cecily42 · 24/01/2021 15:10

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don’t think I could stomach fish for breakfast. Is Rye bread low carb enough?

How is this low carb, or Bootcamp?

Are you really sure that yoghurt won't fill you up? Have you actually tried that?

How about yoghurt with peanut butter? One of my favourites is Whole Earth crunchy peanut butter with full fat Greek yoghurt. I have that for lunch and genuinely don't need anything else until dinner.

Cecily42 · 25/01/2021 16:46

@BIWI, yes I have tried yoghurt. I really like yoghurt with berries and nuts (I don’t like peanut butter), but I get hungry straight away. It seems the only thing which will satisfy my breakfast appetite is bread, porridge or pancakes. I don’t need to lose a lot of weight but I am very aware that I am too much of a carb lover and need to make changes.

Avocado or fried mushrooms.

BIWI · 25/01/2021 18:21

Are you eating full fat yoghurt?

If you really want to be low carb you can't go down the bread, porridge or pancake route!

If you like mushrooms, then a pile of those, with spinach and butter.

Avocado is a good option - mashed with chilli if you like, and lime juice, salt and pepper

tinkywinkyshandbag · 26/02/2021 23:14

I make pancakes which are ground almonds and an egg made into a batter, you can add vanilla extract if you like, maybe a splash of coconut milk in the batter if you want. They are lovely and don't taste low carb.

DaVinyl · 05/03/2021 17:43

I often have a wheatgrass smoothie when I can't face eggs again.

1 scoop protein powder
1 tbsp wheatgrass powder
1 tbsp apple fibre powder
1 tspn flax seeds (you may prefer ground but I quite like to chew them)
Spinach leaves if I have them
Splash coconut milk
Some water

Its much nicer than it sounds and it gives you a head start on your fibre and greens for the day.

I'm sneaking in for the last 3 weeks of boot camp, hope that's ok. It took me far longer than it should have done to get back on the wagon after Christmas, but I'm now back to LCarbing - 4 kg higher than the end of the last BC though I've lost 2hg since restarting. DH is also on board which makes life considerably easier!

Bless you Biwi, for running these!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/03/2021 09:41

Mushrooms all the way, fried in butter with a splash of soy sauce (or tamari to avoid gluten entirely). I love a pile of mushrooms served on iceberg lettuce leaves!

MsAlva · 06/03/2021 19:13

I like to have these meal replacement/protein shakes from time to time. I think it's quite good when you are bored with eggs and meat and don't have time to cook.

Eeve · 06/03/2021 19:18

Is just have a portion of the kind of things I would have for lunch and dinner! Nothing saying you can't!

Oblomov21 · 06/03/2021 19:19

I struggle with low carb breakfasts.

Palavah · 06/03/2021 19:23

'porridge' made with quinoa
