Looks like we are going to need a wee Week 1 Spillover thread, before I start the Week 2 thread on Monday.

Here's the link to the original thread:

.....lots of great advice and support on it. Smile We are all in this together.

Itsjanuary - in the first 2 weeks of Boot Camp I just thole drinking my glass of water. Sparkling water with ice and lemon if I'm out and want something more fancy (but normally plain tap water does me). Pubs, bars and coffee shops have got much better at just giving you a glass of tap water.

Abbey44 - I've also made confit celeriac (disks of celeriac, poached in chicken stock) for a fancy low carb dinner party. It was lush. Smile (The crazy thing is, I don't like celery Confused)

Great results from everyone so far. Love reading all your meals - some great ideas!

Its January, I treated myself to water with ice and a cucumber slice last night 😁 it's nicer than it sounds and feels quite clean and refreshing.

I've so much energy this morning - no alcohol obvs agrees with me!

Going to struggle a bit today as we have a builder in and not sure when I'll be able to get to the kitchen. I've got everything in for roast this evening and was planning on doing the creamy celariac. It could be takeaway now???

Alwaysinmyheart · 14/01/2018 09:51

Re drinks, Lite Cranberry juice has v few carbs and is good with a slice of lime and ice.

If you are talking alcohol, ( I know you can't have it in BC, but for later on) spirits with a low cal mixer work and you can even make a low carb Baileys type drink!

prettybird · 14/01/2018 09:53

Eeeshewasthin - what a good friend, giving you cheese rather than a biscuit. Sounds like you negotiated the day really well - and have felt the consequence of the one area which you don't quite achieve, so you will be more motivated to be careful to drink more water going forward.

Trust me, it does become almost second nature to refuse all the carb accoutrements when eating out. In the same way that I can now ignore the banks of sweets when I go into a petrol station to pay or go into a newsagent to buy a paper ShockSmile one of the reasons why I put all this weight on when I was comfort eating Blush

Thanks everyone - will try some of those next weekend. I’m ok sticking to water during the week - just fancy something nice at the weekend. Saw champagne also low carb so might crack open a bottle when I am down to my first target - sure DH will finish the rest

May end up hitting him with it though (kidding!) - he’s having the same evening meals now and has cut down on the alcohol and I bet he loses loads more than me even though he’s not trying 🤬

prettybird · 14/01/2018 10:11

@theladyismine - you need to re-post your question here. I tried to warn you on the old thread, but someone else got the last post! Wink

JumpingintoLCHF · 14/01/2018 10:11

Abbey that's exactly what my dh said. He had been T1 over 20 years too and had been playing around with the idea himself but the course really helped him sort it all out. Would be hard to do LCHF without DAFNE I expect.

prettybird · 14/01/2018 10:12

Wrong name Blush .....try again @thedayismine

Itsjanuary - it's an unfortunate truth that blokes seem to be able to get good results with HFLC with a higher level of carbs than women Angry

Thanks @prettybird your responsiveness on the threads is brilliant! The support in general by everyone is fantastic. That celeriac confit sounds yum. I might try it this evening.

prettybird · 14/01/2018 10:53

Thanks PennyMise Smile: I feel a certain responsibility, standing in for the fabulous BIWI - don't want to let her down Shock

But these threads are about everyone - we all provide support, whether that is talking about our experiences, our challenges, offering advice or giving specific explanations. Even the most obvious of questions is useful - as someone else might have been wanting to ask the same thing but was embarrassed to. And don't forget all the lurkers - those that don't post but are reading what we post and using that to help them achieve success on this WoE.

BerylStreep · 14/01/2018 10:57

Apparently it's something to do with oestrogen. There was a really good explanation in that book, The Secret Life of Fat, but I can't remember the fine detail.

prettybird · 14/01/2018 11:01

I did wonder if it was to do with oestrogen, given that starting on this WoE can cause havoc with our hormones as oestrogen is released with the fat cells.

I'm sure StuntNun can provide us with the scientific explanation.

Memo to self: really must do some more formal reading about this WoE to supplement my knowledge Blush

Just been reading the Week 1 Spillover thread from the last Boot Camp (had actually gone looking for the Week 2 thread to get inspiration for and work out what I can copy & paste Wink for the OP of tomorrow's Week 2 thread).

We were being Grumpy Old Women those of us old enough to remember reminiscing about eating patterns in the 60s and 70s, fewer snacks and a less dysfunctional attitude towards food Grin

SometimesMyArmsBendBack · 14/01/2018 11:36

@Abbey44 Ooh more T1s. When I hypo I just treat as normal with 3-4 jelly babies. I need to be up quickly or I feel really panicky. This thread was S too massive to catch up and n so apologies if you've already discussed.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 14/01/2018 12:44

Yes, i agree, i couldn't keep up with the last thread, especially at work. I had a cheesy omolette this am, have done dirty jobs and now in bath. 1/2 avocado for lunch, roast chicken for dinner but no roasties for me. Sleeping well.

Must investigate celeriac - not sure I've ever cooked with it. Have bought sprouts to try buttered sprouts and plenty of total for bdeakfast and salad stuff, tuna, ham, chicken, avocados for lunch.

Wonders what tomorrow's weigh in will bring. Makes note to put weight on spreadsheet.

Thank you for all of tbis Prettybird.

prettybird · 14/01/2018 13:01

I hadn't cooked with celeriac before Boot Camp Shock. Now I bemoan the summer period when you can't get it in Lidl Grin although if I make a special trip to Tesco or Sainsbury's, I can usually find it

OP posts:
prettybird · 14/01/2018 13:03

You've just reminded me that I haven't eaten yet Shock

.....before I get criticised for not following the Rules Wink, I'm a long term Boot Camper, so now regularly do intermittent fasting Smile....and I'm not actually hungry Grin

intelligentPutty · 14/01/2018 13:07

Just found out I'm pregnant!!!!
Can I carry on this WOE?

RaindropsAndSparkles · 14/01/2018 13:13

No idea but congratulations Grin

prettybird · 14/01/2018 13:13

Congratulations Flowers

There have been a few pregnant Boot Campers. I'm sure that they will come along with advice.

I think the key message is that you should follow Boot Camp Lite rather than full Boot Camp - with the caveat that I am not medical.

When I was pregnant with ds, I was told to stop having sugar as I was borderline diabetic (sugar in urine but GTT was OK), so a moderate HFLC diet should work well.

OP posts:
intelligentPutty · 14/01/2018 13:49

Thanks. It's all a bit scary right now. But that's not for this thread.

ill check the spreadsheet for boot camp lite
I had gd with dd one so expect I'll get it again. I did get it v late on though.

Thanks. Any other advice appreciated.

ShagMeRiggins · 14/01/2018 13:51

I can't wait until tomorrow's weigh in. Fingers itching to update my Weight Diary app. Confused

Congratulations putty that's lovely news. Flowers

BlackMozart · 14/01/2018 14:36

itsjanuary I just put sparkling water, or just tap water in a nice wine glass and add a slice or two of lemon and lime. If I’m cold then hot water and lemon or a nice herbal tea with a slice of lemon in it is my go to drink.
It feels bloody hard at the moment but that’s because I”m cold. I have to make my DS’s brownies for his pack lunch to take to work and I’m steeling myself because I am missing dark choc on bootcamp. Am going to eat some nuts instead and quit moaning!!

BlackMozart · 14/01/2018 14:38

Oh and big congrats to intelligentputty 💐
Lots of pregnancy advice will follow I’m sure.
