I do get the "naturally full" theory --- but for many of us compulsive / over eaters we eat when we are bored, sad, happy etc and full....and of course I agree that if you let yourself get hungry / hangry and emotional (which should not happen on this) the risk of emotional eating is increased ..... but for some of us a calorie guide would be the "belt and braces" approach....

Titsalinabumsquash · 15/05/2016 13:17

I'm finding it totally alien to shop and put cream, butter and bacon, pork belly etc in my trolley.

I've been on and off diets for 15 years and have never done LCHF, DP is also repeatedly asking me if I'm sure I've read the rules right. Hmm

I've told him just to go with it. We both have a lot to lose and we've spent years going low fat low cal to no avail so this is worth a try, we're both carb and sugar addicts to the extreme so it will be hard but hopefully as the weight goes it will become easier.

Drinks will be hard for DP he only drinks coffee with skimmed milk or Diet Coke/Pepsi max but he'll get used to it I guess.

wombattoo · 15/05/2016 13:20

Happy birthday Cider Wine Cake

BIWI · 15/05/2016 14:01

Titsalina - ask your DH to read the rules himself! If he's doing it as well, he needs to know what he's doing!

He needs to understand why certain things aren't allowed (like milk in too many coffees, or Diet Coke/Pepsi Max), otherwise he's not going to stick with it.

I'm in! I can't c&p the list as iPad doesn't want to so could somebody kindly add me please?

I was in BIWI's first Bootcamp and lost quite a bit of weight but am still struggling (all these years later!) to lose my final stone. I think I need the support/big stick beating of the Bootcampers. Smile

BursarsFrogs · 15/05/2016 14:05

Popple I think for many compulsive eaters the go to foods are very carb-laden, though. I know for me the emotional eating is nearly always some sweet or starchy. I might graze on cheese, I suppose, but wouldn't really start tucking into veggies and meat out of boredom, sadness etc. That's why I've emptied my cupboards from any temptations this weekend.

I've been an MFP-addict and it always makes me obsessed with the weighing and measuring that getting things "right" side of things. I'm absolutely not going to touch it this time round.

I'm on week 9 of the Couch to 10K running program, and it'll be interesting to see how LC will affect my ability to wheeze about "running". Grin

Oooh, and happy birthday Cider

DailyMailResearcher · 15/05/2016 14:05

Can I join please? Coincidentally I started today so that was good timing. Definitely need some support this time around...

DailyMailResearcher · 15/05/2016 14:06

Can someone add me to the list and spreadsheet too please? Thanks

BIWI · 15/05/2016 14:30

Popple IMVHO, if you think you're a compulsive eater, then surely the last thing you should be doing is obsessing about calories?

Honestly - don't do it to yourself! Bootcamp is deliberately designed to be as easy to follow as possible, whilst also enjoying lovely, fresh and natural food. It really shouldn't feel like you're on a diet.

That's not say it's easy - the clue is in the name Grin - but you won't feel deprived or hungry on Bootcamp.

I do, however, appreciate that a lot of people use food for emotional reasons, and it can be really hard to break that. But that's where the support on these threads becomes invaluable. We're all sharing our experiences and feelings.

DoingItForMyselfAtLast · 15/05/2016 15:54

Hi, quick question, and probably a stupid one at that Grin I started today, and made a salad for lunch, with vinaigrette dressing, and wanted to add some fresh mozzarella ball. Now, the question. Normally I would think that 1/3 or 1/2 a mozzarella ball would be sufficient, but should I have eaten more? This whole eat more fat thing is so counterintuitive Blush

Flisspaps · 15/05/2016 16:05

Doing I've been building up to bootcamp starting and having a whole mozzarella ball with salad for lunch, the days I've done that I've avoided the office tuck box.

Flisspaps · 15/05/2016 16:05

Because I've been too full (ended my sentence before I meant to!)

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 15/05/2016 16:06

Do people usually eat less than the whole ball? Grin Blush

DoingItForMyselfAtLast · 15/05/2016 16:10

Thank god for that

I'm starting to get hungry now, so yes, should have eaten the full thing at 1pm!

I'm back...lost loads on previous boot camps...have since had carb creep and gained about a stone back :-((( have fallen off previous boot camp wagons but this time I really need to persevere as am slowly but steadily heading back to my too-heavy-to-ride-my-horse weight.

BIWI · 15/05/2016 16:53

Grin DoingIt!

Definitely eat the whole thing. With plenty of oily dressing! (Not with balsamic vinegar though - way too carby).

This is what will help to keep you full so you don't want to snack between meals.

Another one who lost loads last winter and finding it hard to get back in zone. Can I join at this late stage?

Florene · 15/05/2016 17:15

Hi BIWI - yes, am vegetarian. What amount of carbs per 100g should I be looking to stay below when selecting meat substitutes then would you say? And what total amount per day? Thanks for the help!

DoingItForMyselfAtLast · 15/05/2016 17:15

Thanks BIWI and Fliss. Whole mozzarella balls...think I'm going to enjoy this woe!

DoingItForMyselfAtLast · 15/05/2016 17:17

And yup, white wine vinegar bought this morning. #sorted

BIWI · 15/05/2016 17:44

Florene - it's a difficult one, because just a quick look at the carb counts on Quorn products show that they vary enormously. The obvious answer, therefore, is as low as possible! But I know that doesn't really help you.

I'd aim for around 3-4g per 100g (or less) if you can. But I'd also say that if you can avoid having these meat substitutes as much as possible, that it would be better - and then you can get your carbs from veg and salad. I appreciate that might not be so easy for you!

Check out the recipe thread, which is stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic - there are lots of lovely recipes there. And also, Rose Elliott has written a vegetarian low carb diet, and the recipe book that goes with that has some lovely recipes in it.
