Evening all!

I'm setting up this thread this evening, because I have to be up and out early tomorrow morning.

So, here is the thread for you to ask any questions that you might have about low carbing.

The chat thread tends to move really quickly in the first couple of weeks, so if you post questions on there you're not always guaranteed to get an answer, as it just might not be spotted. So use this thread to post any questions.

I could happily retire on it, my needs are simple Grin. Maybe he'd sell us a job lot cheap?!

SayraT · 25/01/2015 21:56

You could just write your own book BIWI and sell it to everyone on BC Grin

Why don't some of you Knowledgeable Ones put together a recipe book? There aren't too many good ones out there, and most of them are American. I've noticed there are a couple more now than there were two years ago, so people are slowly catching on it seems. Go for it and remember your friends when you're rich :)

So after spectacular losses in week 1, week 2 was a bit disappointing. Put on a lb and lost it and regained it all week, so starting week 3 a lb heavier than I ended week 1. But that's fine really, I have no cause to complain, I'm still 9 lbs lighter than before I started :) I'm keeping on keeping on.

Good luck all.

ChippingInLatteLover · 26/01/2015 09:42

Juan. Because I'm inherently lazy & hate cooking Grin

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2015 10:07

Ah, slight problem there then. You could always lie claim to have tried and tested all the recipes, no one would know you hadn't road tested them. Not that I'm advocating fibbing in any way at all ...

BIWI · 26/01/2015 13:55

I've just started a blog with some of my recipes on it!

Oh, and Juan, one of my specific reasons was because so many of them are American!!!

I'm 3lb down yayyy. I was kind of hoping for more as this was the same as my midweek loss but I haven't been super strict and had a few too many berry's. I have increased my water through. Well done everyone.

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2015 14:22

I subscribed to your blog last week I think it was BIWI, it's fab

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2015 17:28

Has anyone tried the "mum bread"? Can't decide if I like it or not, it's tastes slightly fishy for some inexplicable reason. Suppose it would be fine toasted with jam ... Grin

Any alternatives to avocado?

Can't abide the stuff but know how good it is for low carbing.

LexLoofah · 27/01/2015 01:51

Hello

I made a curry this evening, butter chicken so great for the fat with all the butter, Greek yog and cream but wanted to ask about carbs. Went easy on the tomato paste and halved the onion (will get shallots when onions are used up ) but wondering about things like garlic and ginger which are over the 3g guideline and lemon juice which seems incredibly high, is it ok to use these seeing as the quantity is small compared to overall volume? I also used about 10 different spices which I expect each have carbs so again are these ok seeing as small quantities?

It was the best curry I have ever made and we did not miss the naan or mango chutney so hoping it can stay on the menu, tnx

Almahart · 27/01/2015 07:22

I'm still feeling quite snacky and hungry between meals. I presume that means I am not fat adapted yet? Is that right, and any idea how long til I won't want to snack anymore?

BIWI · 27/01/2015 07:22

I think that the quantities you used are very unlikely to have added that many carbs!

But yes, definitely go for shallots next time - onions are 7.9g per 100g whereas shallots are only 3.3g, so it makes a big difference. See if you can buy echalion or banana shallots, rather than the piddly little round ones. They are so much easier to peel!

Can I ask something RE lemon juice?

People often say that it is quite carby but m lemon juice (from Sainsburys) says 1g carbs per 100ml so surely that is fine? 100ml is quite a bit.

SayraT · 27/01/2015 08:01

Oh also meant to say to Mushroom - why are you looking for an alternative to avocados? I don't like them so I don't eat them.

MushroomTree · 27/01/2015 12:40

SayraT - I just know how good they are when you're low carbing so I thought I'd see if there was an alternative.

It would be nice to be able to have smoothies and the like but the main ingredient always seems to be blasted avocado!

miffy49 · 27/01/2015 12:55

Do you actually notice the taste in a smoothie Mushroom? To me they seem to taste of whatever is with them! I got some avocado oil last week but even that isn't very strong on taste. I don't do smoothies myself but I'm guessing the avocado gives the thick texture as well as the fat. Would coconut oil work?

MushroomTree · 27/01/2015 13:03

LexLoofah - can I have a copy of your butter chicken recipe please??

Sounds delicious!

ChippingInLatteLover · 27/01/2015 13:45

Juan. I am shocked you would suggest such a thing Shock

considers the option carefully

BIWI. Really, that's all good and well, but could you crack on with your 'Vegetarian , barely any prep or cooking low carb' plan/blog please. Actually, it might be simpler if you just moved in and prepped/cooked for me, our spare room is lovely...

LexLoofah · 27/01/2015 13:46

Ok thanks BIWI am sort of paranoid about the hidden carbs as now I have started looking they are lurking in places I would not have thought like soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, wholegrain mustard and I have to say lemon juice and lemon peel were quite a shock

mushroom I sort of cobbled it together from a few recipes as some low carb ones listed lf yog and milk!

I shall post on the low carb recipe thread

MushroomTree · 27/01/2015 13:52

Thanks Lex :)

MushroomTree · 27/01/2015 13:54

Miffy good idea about the coconut oil.

So many yummy recipes seem to have avocado as a fairly key ingredient :(

BIWI · 27/01/2015 21:21

Chipping you couldn't afford me Wink
