Evening all!

I'm setting up this thread this evening, because I have to be up and out early tomorrow morning.

So, here is the thread for you to ask any questions that you might have about low carbing.

The chat thread tends to move really quickly in the first couple of weeks, so if you post questions on there you're not always guaranteed to get an answer, as it just might not be spotted. So use this thread to post any questions.

It was only 1lb up, and I'm used to bigger fluctuations than that, but it made me wonder whether I'd got it a bit wrong on the Bol. Also of interest as I'm still stuffing said Bol into my face for breakfast!
(Only 1 red pepper and two onions vs 1kg mince)

BIWI · 24/01/2015 10:06

Would have been better to have used green pepper and shallots, to keep the carbs even lower.

Don't worry about a pound! But make sure you're focussing on using veg that's 3g carbs per 100g as much as you can.

And drink plenty of water and eat lots of fat!

Thanks BIWI! X

Greenrememberedhills · 24/01/2015 17:52

Please can anyone direct me to the thread or page which explains this diet to total novices? Thank you.

Greenrememberedhills · 24/01/2015 17:59

Found them thank you!

Wonkyparsnip · 24/01/2015 19:20

Just had roast duck (with quite a lot of skin) cauliflower and leeks. Can someone reassure me this is ok but I just cant change my mindset that fat is the devil. (Lost 9lbs so far in 3 weeks so it must be working)

mootime · 24/01/2015 20:21

Emergency- take away curry on its way- what's the best way to make cauliflower rice??

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 24/01/2015 20:32

Moo, just grate into a pan and fry in butter with salt and pepper

bettybigballs · 24/01/2015 21:17

I've done something a bit fucked up and I didn't want to post on the main thread. It is worthy of some bit stick action but there's something more going on that scares me slightly. I've been bootcamping like a dream for three weeks but on Thursday night It all went wrong. Dh was out, dc asleep. Feeling fine overall but after dinner some sort of self sabotage kicked in and I went on a carb binge, sweets, chocolate and crisps. I stuffed until I felt really sick. It scared me, I was on a self distruct mission. I've never have really disordered eating but Im quite good at self sabotage. I'm a bit worried about this. It wasn't about the food really, it was about destroying my hard work. I've been super strict since then again but I has shaken me up. Has anyone had anything similar?

SayraT · 24/01/2015 23:16

betty you don't need the stick. On the last BC we had a few of us who had a discussion about this type of thing. You aren't the only one who has done this, I think it would be ok to mention it on the main thread if you wanted to.

Maybe you could think about, or write down here, why you think you did it?

Are you worried that things will change (relationships, friendships, something else) if you lose weight? THings that you don't want to change so it is easier to stay as you are than to make things different?

I don't really know what I can do/say to help but I will be online again in the morning so will check in again we can chat.

BIWI · 25/01/2015 01:05

Oh betty Sad I'm really sorry. I don't really know why we do it to ourselves, but we surely do. I think Sayra's advice is brilliant.

One thing I'd add to that is to ask you - if you visualise yourself at your target weight, how do you think you'd feel at that weight? How do you picture yourself? Where are you and what are you doing? Are you happy? Do you feel vulnerable in anyway?

From everything I've read on these threads over the last couple of years, I'd say that sometimes being overweight acts as a kind of protection from something. Perhaps you fear being attractive, for some reason? (I'm obviously guessing).

Don't feel shy about posting on the main thread - whilst I try and encourage people not to talk about casual cheating, as it acts as a trigger for some people, talking about the emotional/psychological issues around food can be immensely helpful. Not just for the person talking about it, but for all those who are reading/lurking too.

And have these Flowers

Get back on the wagon - as Scarlett once said 'tomorrow is another day'!

Aw Betty I've been and done it so many times on different diets Flowers

It's important not to let it derail everything though.

It happened, now back to business.

Think about it when you are feeling less guilty and upset, for now fuck it!

It's a blip don't let it push you off course.

The why's are a great topic to chat about, they are relevant to every single person I've ever met with weight to lose and these bloody emotions that we all wish didn't impact us so much are tricky.

BIWI pitches it perfectly. There are people like me who would let forbidden things creep in and then cry bitterly when I don't lose weight.
We need the stick Grin

Then there are the reams of good advice, personal experience and wealth of experience gained from all the other Campers that she shores us up with when we have a bit of a wobble.

want's BIWI to make her life easier and let her live at ChezBIWI Wink

Chin up chuck and if there are any sabotage items left throw them away. Smile

Almaheart. Bless, it's a lot to get your head around isn't it, especially after years of being told 'low fat' & calorie count if you want to lose weight, and fat is EVIL. Have your read Dr John Briffa. - Escape the diet trap? He explains everything really well and does a lot of 'myth busting'. It's really cheap on ebay or free from the library of course. It's an easy read and makes a lot of sense.

bettybigballs · 25/01/2015 11:51

Sayra, BIWi and fatstacks, thank you for your advice, there's a lots of points that resonate in your posts.

I was genuinely baffled as to why I'd done it but reading above but reading your questions, i think i see my girth as a protection, it helps me absorb other people's issues. I struggle to see myself thin without there being a feeling of vulnerability. fat = strong in my mind.

Very strange behaviour and I can see not very logical! I have a quiet day today so I can think more about it.

janx · 25/01/2015 12:31

I ate out last night and fell off the wagon a bit, I just wondered when this happens how much it affects your weight? Does it totally muck up what I have been doing quite successfully for the last six days? ... Hope not! Obviously it wasn't best thing to do!

BIWI · 25/01/2015 12:40

Yes, it will have done ...

... although obviously depends exactly what you did!

More importantly, why did you do it?

OP posts:
janx · 25/01/2015 13:26

I had a curry and rice and some other bits! It was a big event this weekend and had two nights of socialising with lots of friends and family. I didn't drink and managed most of my meals out but slipped on this one. It's a learning curve!

Almahart · 25/01/2015 17:59

Aw thanks chippingin. I thought I understood it, but actually doing it is a different matter isn't it! Also, I wanted to get it perfect from the beginning and now realised that was unrealistic. I haven't fallen off the bandwagon at all but it has taken a while for me to work out what I can eat that I actually like.

I'm planning to batch cook an IPD moussaka tonight, and perhaps another shepherds pie, so that I have lovely food to look forward to after the work/kids rush. Am also planning to try the cream cheese pancakes. I hope those tweaks will make this week a bit easier.

Apophenia · 25/01/2015 20:23

Please can I have some ideas for what to do with my aubergine?

BIWI · 25/01/2015 20:30

This is a lovely recipe for aubergines

ChippingInLatteLover · 25/01/2015 20:54

almaheart. It definitely helps if you are well prepared. It's a change in habit/lifestyle, it takes a bit of getting used to.

Don't forget about Briffa though, it helps to know why it works and why it's ok to eat fat etc. everyone should read it...and he should give me a commission! Grin

BIWI · 25/01/2015 21:06

Oy - join the queue, Chipping!

ChippingInLatteLover · 25/01/2015 21:15
