2015 January Low Carb Bootcamp - the questions thread!

Evening all!

I'm setting up this thread this evening, because I have to be up and out early tomorrow morning.

So, here is the thread for you to ask any questions that you might have about low carbing.

The chat thread tends to move really quickly in the first couple of weeks, so if you post questions on there you're not always guaranteed to get an answer, as it just might not be spotted. So use this thread to post any questions.

Thank you for the Ubercamp explanation.

Won't do that for now cos I love my cream coffee & Greek yogurt but might do it when my weight loss stalls.

Wonkyparsnip · 08/02/2015 06:23

Biwi help! I'm on week 6 now. First 2 weeks were fab I lost 9lbs. Since then I plateaued and this morning I weighed myself and I've put on 5lbs!!!! I have stuck to it rigidly which I've found easy as I'm not much of a carb eater and I haven't missed sugar at all. I'm due my period early this week? But it didn't make a difference last month? If I'm still gaining by Friday I think I'll try something else. (My mums doing it with me and we've eaten identically- she's lost 1lb this week and 4lb last week)

pootlebug · 08/02/2015 10:01

Wonkyparsnip - just before your period you can retain a lot of water. Give it another couple of weeks before you make any decisions about jacking it in - as far as I can see at the end of week 3 you're 4lb down on start weight, which is still good.

JuanPotato - sometimes if I feel like that post-meal I have one square of 85% cocoa chocolate (1.9g carbs). But I suspect it prolongs the problem, so I wouldn't necessarily advise it. And you have to be sure you can stop at 1 square…

Wonkyparsnip · 08/02/2015 12:11

Thanks pootlebug I will stick at it.

BIWI · 08/02/2015 18:04

pootlebug is right, Wonkyparsnip - and the solution is to drink (even) more water, so help with the water retention.

Don't give up after only 6 weeks! You have done really well so far, it would be silly to throw it all away now. Your body weigh fluctuates naturally anyway, so you do need to get used it.

I cut out all dairy except butter, by the end I'm fed up of no cheese though. When I cut out the dairy I find that I don't loose much in the week but literally as soon as I add the dairy back in I have a whoosh and then the weight starts moving down again

That's interesting.

Do you cut out butter as well or not?

WireCat · 09/02/2015 11:30

I'm sure I've been told & now I've forgotten, but what is KOKO?! Thanks

ChippingInGluggingOn · 09/02/2015 11:32

Keep On Keeping On

:)

WireCat · 09/02/2015 11:33

Ah yes, thank you. Need that this week with period due & husband away. Both my binging triggers at once.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 09/02/2015 11:43

That's tough!

I'm a week behind everyone else. I've not lost a pound yet, my jeans that don't fit, still don't fit (and they did a wee while ago, do I shouldn't need to lose masses for them to fit), my bloods are a little better but not hugely (I'm diabetic).

It's tough koko, but hey ho 'keeping the faith '.

Friday night was touch and go. I just wanted something easy! I hate cooking. I was fairly well behaved, I had cheese, yogurt & macadamias.

I think my biggest problem is not drinking enough water :(

WireCat · 09/02/2015 14:43

I've struggled with my water intake this last week as well. I had approx 1l before I went to work. Will attempt to drink the remaining 2l when I get home in an hour. Not all at once!

JuanPotatoTwo · 11/02/2015 20:23

Eek, I'm going backwards! Not literally but in terms of weight. Week 5 here.

JuanPotatoTwo · 11/02/2015 20:40

Oops - sorry, no question. Just moaning :)

SayraT · 11/02/2015 22:24

jaun the STS or gaining which often happens in weeks 3 & 4 can also happen in week 5! Sorry! Just KOKO Smile

Chipping the bit you've quoted above says "I cut out all dairy except butter" so I am guessing that the answer to your question was "no" Wink

I think we need a sticky out tongue face Grin

JuanPotatoTwo · 12/02/2015 07:56

Thank you sayra. As long as it doesn't happen in weeks 6, 7, 8 etc as well I will koko :)

Happy Thursday all.

Wonkyparsnip · 13/02/2015 19:23

Biwi and pootle. I've lost 5lbs this week! so feel back on track. Thank you for your advice. Also I'm hoping im pregnant so I wondering if that's confusing things! (No period today so wish me luck!)

BIWI · 13/02/2015 21:01

Re: chocolate

See lots of lc folks eating a few squares of dark choc on bc lite almost daily, thought I would do bc lite this weekend but when I checked the rules I couldn't see it on there to be sure the one I have is OK, it is 72% and 3.75g carbs per individually wrapped square, does that seem OK? Hope so, one would be plenty

Tnx

BIWI · 21/02/2015 10:52

If you can stick to just one (!) then it should be fine.

LexLoofah · 21/02/2015 18:32

BIWI thanks, am having one now, they are so rich and satisfying will not want another one. Never was a scoff the whole bar at once type person anyway, more a bit here a bit there which still adds up to the same thing but now the sugar addiction has been broken I am not craving it day and night, am v tried for being up in the night and I know this will sort me out to keep going for the rest of the day

PlayNice · 02/03/2015 10:45

Hello there! I wanted to ask what people have been doing with cheese? How little/much are people eating? I have my mum and sister over for Sunday lunch this week and I was thinking of finishing things up with a cheese board, but I'm worried I'll ruin the diet.

BIWI · 02/03/2015 11:22

Cheese instead of dessert is perfect! You certainly won't ruin the diet if you do that. However, if you're eating a lot of cheese every day there could be an issue.

I think Atkins advice is to limit cheese to 75-100g per day.

But that's actually quite a lot of cheese anyway.

Thank you! Brie is usually a sign I've embraced the weight gain. It feels very counter intuitive to eat it as part of a diet.

BIWI · 02/03/2015 12:37

Have you done any reading about low carbing? You should be, routinely, eating a high fat diet. Forget everything you've been told about fat being bad!

FurFoxAke · 02/03/2015 13:43

Hi all! I have a couple of questions for you!

I am already getting haYfever, are the normal tablets ok? I would think they are, but you never know do you? Grin

Am still, entering week seven, no lighter than when I started, and haven't really slimmed down since the first two weeks, any ideas?
I only have dairy in a BPC (slosh of cream that I'm working on reducing)
I'm mainly bootcamp with maybe 7/8 nuts every now and then (not everyday)
Er, that's it really. I've been really careful what I'm eating and have made sure that I'm not stuffing myself (now I'm past the initial two weeks) and I'm on 3 litres of water a day.
I'm not on medicAtion, I get just about enough sleep now and I'm active.

If anyone can help with either of those questions I'd be really grateful. Grin

Oh, and thank you for doing the bootcamps, I can't believe how big they've got now!
