Evening all!

I'm setting up this thread this evening, because I have to be up and out early tomorrow morning.

So, here is the thread for you to ask any questions that you might have about low carbing.

The chat thread tends to move really quickly in the first couple of weeks, so if you post questions on there you're not always guaranteed to get an answer, as it just might not be spotted. So use this thread to post any questions.

I have to ask - what's coyo?

OP posts:
ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 14:06

It's dairy free coconut milk yogurt. .5g per 100g c.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 14:06

Tesco sell it. I've not tried it.

Coconut Milk (99%), Tapioca Starch, Live Vegan Yoghurt Cultures

Fatstacks · 04/02/2015 15:50

Long shot.
Can I make dumplings with butter and coconut flour and add baking soda?

Would that be too carb laden?

Also popcorn.
I'm craving salted popcorn if I pop it from kernels will it be ok?

Tia :)

LexLoofah · 04/02/2015 18:05

Fatstacks popcorn is a no no, would pork scratchings or a few salted almonds satisfy the salty craving instead? Maybe you just need to salt your food more and the salt cravings will go away.

Actually came on here to ask a question or two:

For those who restrict dairy if they are not seeing results, is it just a few days or a week or more? Is cream still OK or should I drop this too? Am managing without cheese and yogurt so far but hoping I can have some next week, if the scales say so of course.

Fatstacks · 04/02/2015 19:10

Thanks for that Lex I will head for the porkys.

Tried making a biscuit/cobbler/dumpling topping with coconut flour.

It was shit.
Like a pudding crumble topping Sad

But I didn't eat any spuds Grin

Birdinacage · 05/02/2015 09:23

Fatstacks there are a few recipes online for dumplings using almond flour but they come out very dense and not really like proper dumplings at all. The parmesan almond shortbreads from the recipe thread are nice for dunking in soups/stews with butter though, just don't have too many Wink.

Lex I sometimes do a no dairy stint if the weight-loss gets stuck for more than a couple of weeks, I usually do 5 days although ubercamp is meant to be for 3 days I believe. I cut out all dairy except butter, by the end I'm fed up of no cheese though. When I cut out the dairy I find that I don't loose much in the week but literally as soon as I add the dairy back in I have a whoosh and then the weight starts moving down again.

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/02/2015 09:44

Fatstacks if you want something salty and crunchy try those crispy bacon slices from M & S.

I wish I could tell where I've lost weight from. I have, according to the scales, lost 11 lbs but apart from my knees I can't see where it's gone from.

LexLoofah · 05/02/2015 13:41

Thanks Bird it's been 4 days and already finding it hard to avoid completely except one cup of tea a day, just can't manage without that. Will keep going until the weekend and see. Feeling rather fat and possibly bloated last few days when I felt slimmer earlier in the week, hope it is just everything fluxing and re-arranging internally. I like the idea of a whoosh when dairy is added back, win-win. I know everyone is different though.

MushroomTree · 05/02/2015 15:45

I've got a few questions:

Firstly, any tips of remembering/getting into the routine of drinking enough water? I did really well the first week and now I just don't seem to remember.

Secondly, if you're having Total yoghurt and double cream for breakfast - how much double cream? Obviously haven't quite broken away from the "fat bad" mindset and always feel like I'm adding too much cream.

Lastly, are we meant to be controlling our portion sizes on this WOE? The food is quite rich so I do seem to self regulate a bit but if I'm not eating rich food (stir fry for example) I eat massive portions.

Help please!

galbraith · 05/02/2015 16:13

I fucked up yesterday. BADLY. I think the word 'carbicide' fits perfectly. I ate PIZZA. I would give you the long and boring explanation of how this happened but, frankly, if those of you such as MrsK can soldier on through truly dark times, my business trip simply DOES NOT count as an excuse!

What I'm wondering now is... do I now need to re-reset my system by doing a three-day Ubercamp, or will my body gradually reset if I go back to Bootcamp?

galbraith · 05/02/2015 16:15

Oh FFS I meant to post that on the week 3 thread, sorry everyone! I'll move myself over there now...

LexLoofah · 05/02/2015 16:49

I see chillis are above the 3g guideline limit, would one or two in a dish to be shared into at least 4 portions be OK? Would love to make a red curry this weekend if it is possible. Tnx

sassandfaff · 05/02/2015 18:40

Quick question. I'm normally a spirit and coke drinker. I don't like it massively strong. Sooooo. Which would suit me best, tonic water or soda water? What's the difference?

sassandfaff · 05/02/2015 18:41

Posted here and the thread. Waiting for the quickest answer before I head to asda. Smile

LexLoofah · 05/02/2015 19:11

tonic water has sugar in it or more likely high fructose corn syrup so definitely not that, think soda is OK but I do not drink so can't tell you how nice it is as a mixer

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/02/2015 20:58

Mushroom I struggle with drinking enough as well so I make stupid rules for myself. Eg, after every time I write an email I must have two glugs, after each phone call two glugs, every time I leave the room three glugs, every time I enter the room three glugs. So basically every time I do something = glugs! I vary the number of glugs per task to keep it exciting - I know how to have a good time, me :)

BIWI · 05/02/2015 21:08

Mushrooom

Firstly, any tips of remembering/getting into the routine of drinking enough water? I did really well the first week and now I just don't seem to remember.

Buy a bottle of water (I buy a Sainsbury's 2 litre bottle of sparkling water - it costs around 50p) and keep it on your desk. It's a constant reminder that you have to drink it.

This, of course, assumes that you're at work! If you're not, it's obviously more difficult - but you need to be mindful of the fact that you have to drink water. If you have a smartphone, why not set an alarm for every hour, and then drink a glass of water?

Secondly, if you're having Total yoghurt and double cream for breakfast - how much double cream? Obviously haven't quite broken away from the "fat bad" mindset and always feel like I'm adding too much cream.

Fat is not the villain it's made out to be. That said, people can have an issue with dairy. So if you're not losing weight, this is the first thing to cut out. You need to read up more about low carbing though, so you understand why fat is good, not bad.

Lastly, are we meant to be controlling our portion sizes on this WOE? The food is quite rich so I do seem to self regulate a bit but if I'm not eating rich food (stir fry for example) I eat massive portions.

On this WOE we are not trying to deprive ourselves. That said, it isn't carte blanche to stuff our faces! Eat when you're hungry, and stop when you're full.

But if you're eating a stir-fry, there's no need to stop using fat!

BIWI · 05/02/2015 21:09

Lex chillies are really light, so can't possibly be a problem. Unless you like to eat horrifically hot food which means using masses of them!

OP posts:
BIWI · 05/02/2015 21:11

sass sorry, you've probably already been shopping! Grin

Soda water is another name for carbonated water - so perfect for low carbing.

Tonic water is different. It contains sugar, so should be avoided. If you can get Slimline tonic (Schweppes) or diet tonic, that's a better option - but just remember that it will contain artificial sweeteners.

I have a question about sugar craving please. I'm nearly at the end of week 4 and still craving something sweet fairly often. I haven't caved yet, and I won't, but I must admit I hoped the cravings would have gone by now. How are other people's cravings coming along?

I must admit I did pretty much mainline sugar before this woe but even so.

WireCat · 07/02/2015 16:18

What is Ubercamp?

pootlebug · 07/02/2015 16:52

Juan - are you craving sugar all the time, or specific cravings at certain times? Sometimes it is more to do with habit - e.g. passing that lovely cafe where you used to go for cake. Sometimes it is because of something you just really love - e.g. I can totally resist most things but posh ice cream is my weakness every time.

If you're craving sugar very often, are you sure you're eating enough? If you're hungry, you're more likely to feel like you 'need' sugar.

WireCat - Ubercamp is a stricter version of bootcamp, suggested for a few days to kick-start weight loss etc. No dairy, and I can't remember what other rules.

JuanPotatoTwo · 07/02/2015 17:00

Thank you pootle. No, not craving all the time - generally just after I've eaten when I would previously have had something sweet. So definitely habit but I'm surprised I haven't conquered it yet. At least I haven't given in either though - we were out for lunch today and I didn't even look at the dessert menu - heroic feat of restraint on my part I feel!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/02/2015 17:06

here you go wirecat, credit to google, not me Grin

BIWI Thu 29-Aug-13 23:17:39
The idea behind ubercamp is that it is three very strict days, where you have to weigh your veg/salad, to make sure that you keep to under 20g carbs per day. It is also a dairy-free plan.
