Morning campers!

Sorry for the late start. But what with it being the Bank Holiday and everything, I didn't have to set my alarm.

Anyway, you can now sign into the weight tracker

And a quick reminder of the rules:

You aren't allowed to eat:

potatoes
pasta
rice/noodles
bread
sugar
flour

And for the first two weeks you can't eat fruit or drink alcohol

The idea behind Bootcamp is that whilst it should be strict (and therefore, hopefully, work!) that it should also be easy - therefore there is no weighing or counting of anything. Just ten rules that you need to follow.

And here are the rules of Bootcamp (the first two weeks)

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.

You must eat breakfast. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you’re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn’t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food,

and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals – meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.

Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat – e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food

This is where your carbs should come from. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don’t have to weigh/count carbs – this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you’re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy

(Apart from butter, which is unlimited). If you are drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

"The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/. Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

7. No alcohol

Alcohol is the easiest source of fuel for the body to burn, so it will always use this first before it starts to burn any fat - which is why you need to restrict it, especially in the first two weeks of Bootcamp, when we are encouraging the body to stop using carbs for its source of fuel and turn to fat-burning instead. If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8. No fruit.

Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada. After Bootcamp you will be able to introduce certain fruits, but at this stage fruit is simply too carby. We are also trying to break the addiction to sweet things, so cutting fruit out is part of this process. If you are getting all your carbs from vegetables and salad, you will be getting all the nutrients and fibre that you need.

9. No nuts/seeds.

In Bootcamp Light these are a great snack, but they can very quickly add a whole load of carbs to your day, so they are best avoided during Bootcamp

10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Sugar is an obvious ‘no no’, but artificial sweeteners are also an issue. One of the aims of this way of eating is to eat pure and natural foods, so including sweeteners is not recommended. Some people find that artificial sweeteners can impede their weight loss, and there is some suggestion that your body can respond to sweeteners as if they were sugar, by releasing more insulin - and therefore laying down fat.

Given that the aim of Bootcamp is to help us lose our sweet tooth and addiction to sweet things, then it is a good idea to avoid sweeteners altogether in this first two weeks.

You might find it useful to print these rules out and stick them on the fridge, or somewhere handy.

And, although I'm not sure what's happening about the spreadsheet this time, have a look at the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness at the tabs on the bottom, there is loads of useful information

PeonyStick · 09/05/2014 13:49

lots of typos- sorry..... mad phone

Suzymoo09 · 09/05/2014 14:12

Thanks BIWI for that thread. I am surprised by my sweetness cravings, thought I'd been good between bootcamps but the little treats and berries must have been more addictive than I'd thought. Hmm Hmm

JessicaMary · 09/05/2014 15:28

For me if I were to substitute a BPC (if I drank coffee) for a meal I'd feel awful. I am not sure that will work for everyone. By all means have it after a meal but I think we are just starting and start missing meals with a caffeine substitute there is a risk you'll feel hungrier later. I certainly find getting a very good discipline of 3 meals at 3 exact times each day helps the body to adapt to eating this way.

QueenQueenie · 09/05/2014 15:30

WOW! Thanks for the twinings salted caramel tip losers. Just bought some and it is lovely!

pingufan · 09/05/2014 15:45

Peonystick...Torchon ham is procured from that famous charcuterie ALDI and it's French sliced ham that been wrapped in a Torchon ( a muslin cloth) to be cooked, it apparently retains the moisture and improves the flavour. It is indeed delish!

Cherrypi · 09/05/2014 16:13

Oh dear ate a leg of my son's gingerbread man. Need to remember to bring low carb snacks out with me. Have a terrible sore throat.

PeonyStick · 09/05/2014 16:46

jessica - it is decaff as we avoid caffeine on bootcamp and many bootcampers have BPC for breakfast. I can also report its now nearly 5pm and I am still not hungry which is fairly unheard of for me !

alleypalley · 09/05/2014 17:05

I have my first 'challenge' of BC tonight. I run a pub, Fridays are obviously busy nights so I buy my staff chocolates to see them through the night until they get a break.

I'm not worried I'll be tempted, but more that I'll get busy and distracted and just pop some chocolate in my mouth by accident, out of habit.

pingufan · 09/05/2014 17:14

Is this type of dinner ok?

I was thinking of doing chicken, fried in butter with mushrooms and spinach with a little double cream mixed in.

How does that sound?

ImSoOverIt · 09/05/2014 17:42

Ok - I have a confession to make. I am going to spend the weekend possibly being a carby twat, and almost certainly being a boozy twat.

I am going to a wedding which involves a weekend stay and our friends are already catering for me being a vegetarian so I can't really ask them to stretch to veggie low carb, so I will just have to see how easy it is to be a carbinator.

Wrt the booze, I was going to pretend I was on antibiotics, but knowing my friends this will probably lead to rumours of me being pregnant as I have never been known to pass on a glass of wine! I can't even say I'm driving as we are staying at the venue! Plus I really need a drink as dp is being particularly inept today and is driving me mad! Going to try to stick to vodka soda though.

I will start again on Monday and do a whole 2 weeks bootcamp to atone for my sins! At least I feel slightly less wobbly for doing it since Saturday... Smile

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 09/05/2014 17:42

I've been reallllly good. So much water I can't stop peeing. Eating lots if salad, green veg, meat, fat everything. I'm not hungry, craving sweets or carbs.
I haven't lost one single ounce.
Waaaaaaaaaillllllllll.
(Btw, what's BPC)

antimatter · 09/05/2014 17:49

I am beginning to be convinced that my tummy shrinking must be the break from carbs.
I think it is possible my internal organs are/were swollen!
Gluten is out now and perhaps that will make me feel better over all.

PeonyStick · 09/05/2014 17:51

Pingu -that sounds gorgeous ( not as good as my orgasmic duck - but a close second !)

fuckery - bullet proof coffee - coconut oil/ butter and decaf . I am late to this particular party , but am a convert

NeverHadANickname · 09/05/2014 17:56

That sounds nice Pingu

Weekends are normally hardest for me because I just nip to the corner shop on a Saturday and buy a swiss roll intending to have a couple of slices but normally end up eating the lot! I have LC snacks in though so hopefully I won't feel the need.

SayraT · 09/05/2014 18:05

ATTENTION EVERYONE Grin

As many of you know Willie is unable to maintain the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this BC, MNHQ/tech also can't do it so I have offered to try and maintain it.

I am not promising anything but I will give it a go, all credit for the making of the spreadsheet must go to willie as I only stole it and changed dates/usernames.

I have taken the latest list from the join up thread and added those names to the sheet, if you are not on the sheet and want to be then please add your name at the bottom of the list. I will reorganise it into alphabetical order at some point.

You do not need to be on the spreadsheet, the weight-tracker (link in OP) is also available, you can use either, both or neither.

Here is the link Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Any questions or if you want removed from the spreadsheet then just ask Grin

Fingers crossed this works!

NeverHadANickname · 09/05/2014 18:09

Yay! It says I need to request access so I have Smile

PseudoBadger · 09/05/2014 18:09

It asked me to request access - so I did?

SayraT · 09/05/2014 18:10

Ah shit...I'll see what I've done....maybe I can't do this.

Don't anyone else request access until I see where I've gone wrong!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/05/2014 18:11

I think you need to change the settings so anyone can edit?

SayraT · 09/05/2014 18:11

Try again now, think I've sorted it.

prettybird · 09/05/2014 18:12

Oops - I requested access before/at same time that you said to leave it until you'd sorted it Blush

I'm the one with the silly surname Grin

SayraT · 09/05/2014 18:13

Don't worry about it prettybird I just didn't want a million requests Grin

Does it work now?

NeverHadANickname · 09/05/2014 18:14

How do you put your weight in or am I missing something?

SayraT · 09/05/2014 18:16

Can you not add it in the starting weight column?

Maybe I shouldn't have offered to do this Blush I seem incapable!
