Wow! So much nattering that we've filled up the thread before the end of the week!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for tomorrow morning.

And, for the Weight Tracker I'm not quite sure what happens with this link I think that you will be asked to enter your weight for this week and then you will see your individual graph.

I hope you all had a good week last week, and very good luck for week 2.

Hello everyone,
Really AWFUL taste in my mouth the last day or so. Straight after eating - it's back. I am feeling a bit better from whatever lurgy I've had.

Lovecat that's amazing, you look great!
Thumbwitch it depends where you buy them in the UK, they are expensive but Asda do them for ~£1.75, and the Waitrose vanilla powder that BIWI has introduced many to, is ~£5 for 6 ground vanilla beans and so works out as reasonable for my budget, others might not feel that way.
I have seen them for sale over here in places like Asian supermarkets that sell many spices much cheaper than the mainstream shops. Long version of an answer that should say - no not quite that much!

I'm at the hospital seeing an oral surgeon about a nasty embedded root that I have this afternoon - going to clean and clean my teeth and hope I don't have immediately identifiable ketosis to them.

Yesterday's food:

B: yogurt, vanilla, flax, cream - yum - can I eat this every morning? Been having egg and bacon on Tuesdays and Saturdays... is that too predictable or is it an ok rhythm to have got myself in.
L: the most delicious ham and mozzarella pancake-style omelette in butter on watercress with dressing
T: gammon, egg, buttered spinach, broccoli
S: more yogurt - probably some emotional eating going on there...

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 24/01/2014 13:39

Pisci - I put on weight breastfeeding too. I think it's the complete knackeredness with increased appetite that does it.

Re: varying weight gains- Differing response to carbs loads is one of the things both Atkins and volek and phinney mention, iirc. My husband can eat what he wants and stay 9.5st, I eat the same and 1/2 a stone goes on!

BerylStreep · 24/01/2014 13:40

Hi everyone, I just wanted to pop on to the thread. I have been really busy, so haven't kept up with how other people are doing, but I am doing ok. Had one night of self sabotage, but other than that I feel good.

goodasitgets · 24/01/2014 13:41

Interesting about the thyroid stuff. My recent blood results (I have a print out here) show TSH 2.26 and free T4 13.4

SteeleyeStan · 24/01/2014 13:42

Good day folks.

I was reading the NHS dietary guidelines earlier (talk about the Devil reading the Bible) and had to do a lot of deep breathing to not seethe.
So for balance, now I'm happily feeling like a rebel just by sitting on my arse on the sofa, eating grease and reading Gary Taubes. (My back is sore and I'm still PMSy, so sofa is where I'll stay for now.)

Today's foods:
B: Two fried eggs and a bulletproof coffee (with added cinnamon, nice).
L: Courgette spaghetti with melted butter and parmesan, followed by a small bowl of Total with vanilla.
S: Coffee with coconut oil.
D: Venison stew with kohlrabi in some form. (I wonder if you can make mash with kohlrabi?)

Thumbwitch · 24/01/2014 13:45

Thanks LittleMiss - thought it was a bit bloody expensive! Good luck with the oral surgeon - embedded root sounds nasty!

I'm 174lb every evening. In the mornings, I think "Oh good, more weight loss!" but by the evening, it's back to 174lb. (YES I KNOW! Grin)
But, still going down. And I've been sooooo tempted by the Cadbury's mini blocks we have but have Resisted!

Might have to kill DH though - he asked how it was going, said it looked like I'd lost a bit (fine) but THEN said "Yeah, but you've still got a way to go, haven't you". YES. Thank you. I do know that. I don't need it rubbed in, do I. Hmm

googoogoggles · 24/01/2014 13:48

Hello all
Quick read through to catch up (actually has taken ages, so many posts!)
Flowers to Blizy for your loss – there are no words, and to Helium going through divorce hell, and to all others struggling at the moment. Also to Willie for valiant sorting of spreadsheet a few days ago (twas not me, I promise)

I've been good all week pretty much (polishes gleaming halo) but forgot beetroot was out of bounds and had a beetroot/feta salad last night and (picks up halo off floor and sets it back at dodgy angle)
Lots of social stuff this w/e so will see how it goes and will try hard o keep on keeping on.
Did slow-cooked lamb on Wednesday with buttery swede – highly recommended!!! Will try to post recipe next week if there's nothing similar on the thread.

This next bit is repeated from questions thread so she sees it...

crabby!!!
PLEASE do put up your recipes for low carb berry ice cream, cheesecake and crumble after your DD heads off to NZ (or sooner if you have a moment though you sound crazy busy atm) THANK YOU!
See, Crabby, you is a legend in your low-carb lunchtime!

Have a good weekend everyone! (Am back Monday!)

Thumbwitch · 24/01/2014 13:48

Steeleye - dietitians on Type II diabetes were my absolute bugbear! I knew at least 2 people with type II diabetes who were given the exact same diet sheet as a type I diabetic would receive, a type I who would be injecting insulin 3 x a day and therefore need a certain amount of carbs to avoid a hypo. Hmm
Luckily, one was my Mum - whom I put straight pretty quickly - and the other was a man who'd already tried to take charge of his type II diabetes himself through his own research, and was disgusted with what the dietitian gave him.

I wonder if they've changed it ever in the last few years...

googoogoggles · 24/01/2014 13:53

Cross posted...
Just to say, IGNORE HIM Thumbwitch!!! Keep on and he'll be amazed at how much you can use on this WOE
Mine has been mostly supportive but can't help asking "are you sure you should be eating that?" when I'm digging into a tub of thick double cream – he's seen that I've lost weight and it's worked but we've all been brainwashed about the dangers of too much saturated fat it's hard to change your mindset

Right, I am going now....

giraffeseatpineapples · 24/01/2014 14:02

blizy Sad , Thanks for you and your baby daughter

Been a bit under the weather this week and a total low carb failure but am playing the long game so will get back into it. Had steak and kale for lunch which is a start. Craving soup and tea for my throat. Any tips for good food to eat when under weather?

Lovecat wow that is a really noticeable difference!

SteeleyeStan · 24/01/2014 14:06

Thumbwitch Yes, I agree; the advice to diabetics really beggars belief sometimes. Angry Also grrr at your DH.

I just had a call from the hospital that my consultant wants to meet with me urgently. The first time they could give me is the first week of February (even so it's much faster than I've ever been given a time before). Very puzzled and very worried now... I had a very large bunch of different blood tests done since I was there six weeks ago, so I'm just playing Guess Your Doom now...

teaandthorazine · 24/01/2014 14:16

Afternoon losers!

Am getting mildly concerned by how 'not hungry' I am. I've been here before with low carb but it seems even more pronounced this time around. I'm pretty sure I'm in ketosis (my breath could fell an ox Blush) but even so...

All I've had today is a cup of tea, one espresso and four large glasses of water. Oh, and a spoonful of coconut oil. I am genuinely not hungry. Am flying up to Glasgow in a couple of hours - should I make myself have some yoghurt before I go? I will be going out for a big dinner this evening, however.

This weekend may all go a bit tits-up on the carb front anyway...will try and rein it in as much as possible but it's Burns' Night tomorrow!

PrimalLass · 24/01/2014 14:18

My head is totally committed today, but I am STARVING.
b: 3 x eggs + butter (egg in a cup)
l: lots of taco mince, guac, salad.
Snack: marscapone and double cream (I don't cut out dairy enough)
d: roast beef and veg.

What can I eat? All I fancy is more cheese, but that's not ideal.

StuntNun · 24/01/2014 14:43

Hard boiled eggs Primal? Meat e.g. ham or Peperami. Olives. Cucumber or celery.

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/01/2014 15:04

goodasitgets Are you already on medication? Because if you are you might benefit from a slight bump up. When I'm over 2 I start to get a bit foggy headed, dry skin, tire more easily, etc. And if you're not on medication you should ask again imo. Or try a supplement like NutriThyroid to see if that picks you up - that's if you are having symptoms of course.

teaandthorizine Me too! I should have had lunch by now, I'm having a frittata to use up some near expiry veg, but I'm not motivated. I'd better sort it out now. It's nice that my appetite seems to be reducing though, I used to be the type to get ravenous an hour after lunch.

Thumbwitch · 24/01/2014 15:11

Burns night - yes! My LCing will indeed go tits up in the evening, I'm not giving up my haggis for anyone! I will forgo the tattie mash, but not the neeps. Still haven't found any celeriac - could try mashed cauliflower instead but I don't think the boys will go for it!

WillieWaggledagger · 24/01/2014 15:26

i don't like haggis so dp gets a whole one to himself

i don't like sausages and haggis falls under the umbrella as 'sausagey'

goodasitgets · 24/01/2014 15:32

Gatorade - no, I'm not diagnosed as having a thyroid problem Hmm

PrimalLass · 24/01/2014 16:00

I usually just do a mix of mashed neeps and carrot and don't bother with the tatties.

I'm hypothyroid. I have lost all faith in the NHS to do what's right for me. I order in natural thyroid replacement from abroad instead of taking levo.

popsnsqeeze · 24/01/2014 16:15

I am starting to suspect that there are actual bones under my muffins! Who knew?! I keep prodding just to be sure! Tres exciting Smile

goodasitgets · 24/01/2014 16:17

I've always wondered if my thyroid is not right as my Nan had a deranged thyroid (under active then over) and my mum has an underactive so big history

trashcanjunkie · 24/01/2014 17:08

Oh my god it's taken me this long to get the thread read since it started! I'm going to accept I'll be a bit of a lurker. Bloody rl time stealer. It's great to hear that others are having the same issues as me - I started a week early and didn't weigh in to begin, then only lost a couple of pounds. Not sure what's going to happen on Monday's weigh in, and also I'm going to have to buy new scales so that could skew my results.

Can anyone recommend good scales that won't cost a bomb?

I have been utterly dedicated and followed bc to the letter, I feel so 'locked in' now, that deviating from this WOE seems impossible. So good to feel in control of my eating again.

Have had some strange moments though. Have had to go to A&E with DS 2 this week. Normally that would involve some form of 'treat' like a costa hot chocolate to combat/alleviate the stress of the situation, and I was missing the food emotionally rather than physically. For me I think tha's the most difficult part.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 24/01/2014 17:36

Really craving the salty stuff today.

SayraT · 24/01/2014 17:55

I forgot to take my lunch to work today!!! There was nothing that I could eat at work that was lc, I ended up having cream of vegetable soup, there was definitely potato in it. Then at afternoon coffee someone brought out chocolate, I didn't have any but my goodness I was hungry.

I am now starving, just having a wee snack of cucumber sticks and garlic and herb cheese dip. Need to wait until OH home for dinner.

LibraryBook · 24/01/2014 18:10

B Coffee
L chicken & avocado salad
D sirloin steak on roasted swede, broccoli, spring onion (am putting it in the roasting oven to see how that goes, see pic)
