Driving without MOT

I don’t drive (health reasons), so I’m not sure how bad this is.

My ex has started to drive without an MOT, would you send your child with him in the car? Could he be arrested?

he’s due to pick our three year old daughter tonight, I’ve asked him to get a bus to pick her up, but he refuses. I’m not sure whether to keep her with me or not.

Thanks

The lack of MOT specifically isn't what would bother me but his attitude towards safety is evident form that. He is one to cut corners, not pay unless he has to. This would bother me even if the car was MOTd tbh.

Yup, it's the thin end of the wedge, the sort of cretins that drive without an MOT tend to play fast and loose with rules in general.
It's why the police love pulling them over, it's normally just the start of what turns out to be a bigger list of problems for that person... these folk do tend to be thick as shit though and deserve all they get.

Not sure he'd be paying for it on finance if that was the case ...

Some older cars are very expensive.

taxing a car without a valid mot is illegal

It's also impossible as to be able to tax it you need an MOT

I am guessing lack of update means the shit hit the fan upon arrival and the OP’s daughter went with her dad

No, just had a busy day. He arrived with his friend in his friend’s car. He dropped his car back to the garage he bought it from apparently, for it to be sold. So he took her last night, which she was very happy about

Why the heck didn’t he tell you this rather than leaving you hanging right up until arrival

tianabiscuit · 09/09/2023 19:29

What are the circumstances of the no MOT? Is he just refusing to MOT his car, or is he awaiting repair?

For example, I am currently MOT-less, but only because I am pootling round garages getting the one main failure (car horn not tooting) and a couple of advisories fixed before I go back next week for a re-test. The rest of the time the car is not currently being driven, but is broadly safe.

If he's refusing to have the MOT done at all, then who knows what could be wrong with his car, and I wouldn't be happy with my child being drive around in those circumstances.

And did you check his friend's car had an MOT?

He missed payments on his car finance so the court ordered that he return the car to the garage within a few weeks. So he didn’t want to pay for an MOT for a car he wouldn’t be keeping. Turns out he handed the car back yesterday

I know the friend, they aren’t the type to drive without an MOT
