Driving without MOT

CM1897 · 08/09/2023 16:17

I don’t drive (health reasons), so I’m not sure how bad this is.

My ex has started to drive without an MOT, would you send your child with him in the car? Could he be arrested?

he’s due to pick our three year old daughter tonight, I’ve asked him to get a bus to pick her up, but he refuses. I’m not sure whether to keep her with me or not.

Thanks

There apnr cameras everywhere he’ll get caught
probably get summons in post

He’s an unsafe driver, he’s had court recently for speeding and jumping a red light. He has now done courses and I don’t believe he’d speed with our daughter in the car. He is responsible when it comes to her.

Bingo

in that case without a nanosecond hesitation I would leverage this to contact the police

seriously

no bloody way would i have my daughter in a car with him knowing this

THIS is your chance to stop this reckless endangering of your child’s life

kimchiforever · 08/09/2023 16:46

Jumping red light
speeding
driving without MOT and insurance

missing payments on his lease

he sounds like a catch

One of the reasons he’s an ex I guess. He never used to be this way

So what are you going to do?

topnoddy · 08/09/2023 16:53

Throwing this into the mix , this car may well be old enough to be MOT exempt . One of mine is and has been for 27 years , still get it done every year though .

Driving without insurance needs reporting to the police. My friend's son was killed by an uninsured driver. They tend to be careless, irresponsible people. A neighbour's husband was seriously disabled by an uninsured driver. No compensation due to no insurance.

@endofthelinefinally

Why did they not claim from the Motor Insurers Bureau? They deal with claims from untraced & uninsured motorists.

sezzer87 · 08/09/2023 16:55

Why don't you drive and take your daughter in your car so she can still see her dad but is safe?

It’s a 2014 plate? Not sure of the rules as I don’t drive

I don’t think “generally responsible” would be enough for me when it comes to DCs.

CM1897 · 08/09/2023 16:56

kimchiforever · 08/09/2023 16:53

So what are you going to do?

I’m going to see if he turns up at 5:30 this evening in his car. If he does I’ll keep or daughter home and report the car. Feel awful doing that, but I feel even worse about our daughter being let down and someone possibly getting hurt

He eventually got criminal injuries comp but it took more than 10 years. He was very seriously injured.

kimchiforever · 08/09/2023 16:57

No that’s not a good plan.

as all the drama will play out in front of your daughter

call or message him NOW to explain that she will not be going whilst he doesn’t have an MoT or insurance

I know it's true but that makes absolutely no sense really? Surely the older the car is the more problems it will have.

Not having a car with MOT could mean the car is unroadworthy (and probably isn't). If he can't be arsed to MOT his car, then he probably won't even have insurance. How could he even think about letting his child get in a potentially fucked car!!!

This.

OP is unable to drive for medical reasons. She has explained.

I’ve already told him this. He’s unlikely to listen though. We won’t argue in front of her, never have

So you will say no

and he will say ok and walk away?

I’ll open the door, say that I told him he can’t take her in his car. And close the door. He won’t make a scene in front of her

kimchiforever · 08/09/2023 17:01

Best to assume he will be driving op, given he’s been explicit that he will be

Make no sense to me either !
The problems a 50+ year old car may have adding up year after year of only being driven on sunny summer Sundays

sezzer87 · 08/09/2023 17:34

Can you get someone else to drive her or take a bus or taxi yourself? Anything to stop him feeling the need to take her in the car.

Oakbeam · 08/09/2023 17:36

His insurance will 100% be invalid with an expired MOT

This is a myth. Often repeated.
