hiya, single mum here. I’ve noticed theres a few places on mumsnet for just a general chat and i wondered if anyone would like one in the lone parents section. It would be nice to make friends with some other single parents and be able to check in with everyone and have people to offload onto.

Cross post tired, they are cute :) How has your eldest took to being a big sibling?

OP posts:
Imtootired · 08/02/2020 16:05

You should get lots of videos of them. My big boy loves being an older brother. He has wanted to be a big brother for years and I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen, not having met anyone and being busy with other things. He asked me about it when he was eight or nine and to get him off my case I said maybe when you’re ten not actually anticipating it would happen. He’s always kissing him and making faces and if I’ve fed my Bub early in the morning but he still wants to be awake and I’m absolutely exhausted I’ll ask my older son to go rock him in the bouncer and entertain him and I’ll sleep an extra hour or so. I feel a bit bad in a way they’re so far apart in age and might not get to really play together but I guess they each get a lot of attention from me and they will always have each other when they’re grown up.

Mummylanie3 · 08/02/2020 16:06

I'm in single parent currently 29 weeks pregnant with my 4th big shock and not heard from the father since I was ten weeks

dayowl · 08/02/2020 16:37

tired that sounds lovely, it must be nice that he’s there to help. My eldest 2 are only 13 months apart, so I never had a break but now they love helping out with DD2.

lanie Congratulations! How has your pregnancy been so far?

sittingonacornflake · 08/02/2020 16:46

@Imtootired I'm not sure really. It started leaking rusty water and then just stopped.... cleaning. Sad

Tiredtiredtired100 · 08/02/2020 22:11

@dayowl thanks for starting this thread. I was literally just on here out of boredom and a little bit of loneliness. I’ve got an almost 1 year old DS who is my absolute world, but once he’s in bed and I’ve done as many chores as I can face Saturday nights are a bit lonely. I did spend the day with my family though so I can’t complain too much

@vampirethriller and @Mummylanie3 ten weeks pregnant seems to be a common leaving point doesn’t it? My ex-left me then too and I haven’t heard from him since. My friend said she thought it was because it was before the 12 week scan which seems too real to face for men who want to flake out.

P.s. I own a steam mop and love it! As does my son because it’s almost as cool as the hoover.

dayowl · 08/02/2020 23:35

Storm Ciara is thrashing us. All the DC are in my bed terrified, so Peppa is on the tele

Mummylanie3 · 09/02/2020 00:50

@dayowl same here winds and rain really strong I'm laid in bed trying to sleep but it's not happening

Imtootired · 09/02/2020 06:18

I hope everyone is ok in the storm. I do like being inside and cosy in a storm but it’s a bit different when it’s so strong you think it might cause damage and blackouts. The east coast of Australia has wild weather also. I have a huge list of foods I wanted to make today. Hummus, Thai chicken curry for dinner, zucchini slice for my sons school lunches and maybe choc caramel slice but I’ve got mastitis for the second time in a month so I’m feeling very achy and not sure if I’ll actually get anything done. I’m trying to massage the blockage out so I don’t have to start antibiotics but I’ve got them here if I need them

Wanteddownunder · 09/02/2020 07:32

ok storm wise at the moment. Fingers crossed.
Hope everyone else is ok

Tiredtiredtired100 · 09/02/2020 09:51

The storm didn’t really get going here until midway through the night so we slept through it. It’s really picking up now though so our usual Sunday plan of going swimming isn’t going to happen as I don’t want to drive in it.

vampirethriller · 09/02/2020 09:54

Storm is pretty bad here, we had to take the dog out in it this morning. We're having a day in. Might make biscuits.

dayowl · 09/02/2020 10:14

The storms really bad here, I’m loving it

dayowl · 09/02/2020 12:09

tired dinner sounds lovely! I’m sorry to hear about your mastitis, it bloody kills.

The DC are so grouchy today, they’re moaning about everything. I feel like locking myself in the bathroom

notjustamother · 09/02/2020 12:27

Hi I have four DC 10,8,6 and 11 months. I've been single for 6 months now after ex left for another woman. I would love to join, sometimes I feel like I'm doing great other days I struggle. For me seeing him play happy families with the kids and the new woman and hers has been the hardest thing to deal with but I feel like I'm slowly getting there.

To note no steam mop (it packed in!) but I do have a spray mop! Haha!

Imtootired · 09/02/2020 13:06

@dayowl thank you luckily it hasn’t gotten too bad. It was just weird last night because I went to bed freezing cold then woke up too hot and took my blanket off so couldn’t really judge the real temperature and wasn’t sure if my baby needed a blanket or not. Thai chicken curry and zucchini slice turned out very nice.
@notjustamother oh that does sound upsetting. They probably try to give the impression things are going great but I doubt it’s all smooth behind the scenes. If he’s left you when your baby was a few months old for someone else he sounds pretty nasty and will probably do similar to her when things get hard.
I’m glad everyone is updating their steam mop status. For people who’ve had steam and spray mops which do you think are better? We might have an interesting data set of single parents mumsnet users vs the general population steam mop usage. My ex said he sees a lot thrown out because they get blocked with scale from the water so run vinegar through it every few weeks. It can apparently do carpets as well but I don’t know if it will actually get rid of marks or just kill germs with the high temperature. I’m thinking of not wearing shoes from outside when my baby starts crawling because when I think about all the stuff we step in it’s pretty gross but I don’t know if I’ll actually follow through with it. A lot of my friends from other countries do that and it does make sense to me.

Imtootired · 09/02/2020 13:09

@dayowl sorry for rambling I meant to say I hope your kids haven’t driven you completely crazy. It’s hard when you’re stuck at home. My sons daycare worker ones said windy weather affects their behaviour. I don’t know if it’s true but she seemed to think so

unicornsarereal72 · 09/02/2020 15:33

Checking in. Yes the weather has made my two a handful today. We have been out shoe shopping. Both kids need new shoes. 😪.

So where abouts is everyone?

dayowl · 09/02/2020 15:59

Welcome notjust, I’m so sorry to hear about what you’ve been through. It must be so difficultFlowers

tired I’m glad you aren’t feeling too bad, look after yourself. A steam mop was better for us, we don’t wear shoes in the house here. The DC are okay now, I made them pair our odd socks and they got 5p for every pair they found.Grin

unicorns I have to get DD1 some new shoes as she’s scuffed her school shoes. They don’t last very long!. I’m from Hertfordshire

Morning, how is everyone doing today

OP posts:
vampirethriller · 10/02/2020 12:46

Hi, we've been busy. I'm doing a course through the local children's centre, daughter gets two hours in the creche and I get to have proper conversation with adults!

dayowl · 10/02/2020 13:43

That sounds ace vampire!

How has your day been @dayowl
I was at work today. To really didn't want to get out of bed. My mood is right down in my boots. But I got through the day. Jobs all done and going to get lovely early night. Best thing about being in my own. I get the bed all to myself.

dayowl · 10/02/2020 18:15

Today has been okay, thank you unicorn. The weather was bad again last night, all the DC were up early so have been very grumpy today. There was no nursery for DS either as he isn’t very well. The weather here is awful now, so it looks like it will be another bad night with the kids. Our front door goes straight into the living room and causes a draft which meant last night the door from the living room to the stairs kept banging.

I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling low, but well done you for getting through it all!.
