Hello

OP posts:
rosmerta · 08/09/2008 10:44

Well, ds has made his mind up and has demanded Lollipop this morning. I tried Kew Gardens but nope, only Lollipop will do. We're heading off now if anyone wants to join us.

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 10:47

not yet sure what we will do dd still coughing a fair bit so might stay local, very local in fact

slng · 08/09/2008 11:24

Good morning!

That was a good 5 minutes of sunshine, wasn't it?

So exhausted. Not sure why. I'm blaming it on this school business. By the time I get both kids socked and shoed and coated and out of the door and DS1 to school and DS2 to nursery I'm ready to go back to bed ...

We had a cleaner round this morning so I shall enjoy the dust-and-dirt-freeness for a few hours.

sfx - hope dd recovers quickly!

SushiMummy · 08/09/2008 11:49

Morning all.

sfx - Hope DD feels better. My DS has been coughing and spluttering, too. Maybe got it from nursery?

QC - sent you an email this morning.

SJ99 · 08/09/2008 12:59

Yes we took advantage of the brief sunshine and went by the river to see ducks and boats.
Don't fancy DS chances of napping as we seem to be surrounded by noisy builders today

Hope miniSfx perks up soon as well as mini Sushi

Thansk MrsR

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 13:14

dd want to go to C&C I really don't have the stomach for it today but suppose I should do something, blaming the uninspiring weather

I thought I nice walk by the river would be ok

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 13:15

I can't even write

rosmerta · 08/09/2008 14:55

I'm always going to Lollipop over lunchtime now, much quieter & nicer!

hope minisfx & minisushi are feeling better, ds had a bit of cold the other week, think its down to everyone going back to school!

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 15:10

we had a very nice tricycle ride around the estate incorporating bug hunt

now off to make fairy cakes
dinner is homemade fish (salmon steaks) and chips we need comfort food today

Ros I agree the place is bearable at lunchtime

SJ99 · 08/09/2008 15:40

Amazingly DS went to sleep amongst all the racket but it was shortlived once they started sledgehammering a load of paving stones next door!
At least my washing is drying outside.

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 16:02

so apart from the cinema do we have any evenings out planned?

anyone going to the MN Christmas meet up? looks bare this year

sushi expect like others have said it is about going back to school, germs galore
btw what do they do at Christmas?
are we expected to give them gifts?

thanks for good wishes for dd I could do with a good nights sleep which can only happen if she sleeps

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 16:11

another question please we were invited for an open morning at the primary school in a couple of weeks, I expect dd is to go too no?
TIA

slng · 08/09/2008 16:19

We've never been invited to anything! Anyway, I'd think dd has been invited too. After all she's the "client", no? (All this talk about choice just ask for this sort of language, doesn't it?)

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 16:26

over the year in my former business the lingo changed a lot/ patient/ resident/ service user/ client
funnily enough each org I would have contact with would have their own ideas about the right way of talking and would often make stupid pseudo ironic remarks about someone else's choice of words
all very equality promoting you see

and don't even get me started on the verbal do goodders

ComeOVeneer · 08/09/2008 16:31

It depends what sort of open morning it is sfx. Is this the school she will be attending or is it just a local school you are interested in. If the latter then it is more for prospective parents to see the school, ask the head etc various questions. We are doing one at dd's school in a couple of weeks are children are not expected to attend. They organise seperate visits for the children to attend and see the school. Why not call them and ask?

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 16:37

thanks COV have been emailing the school to register interest etc and was asked if I would like to attend an open morning on the 23rd.
I really want dd to go there

I suppose I should just ask what is involved

ComeOVeneer · 08/09/2008 16:50

Sounds like it is a mors formal type "look around" so would suspect they aren't expecting dd to be there, but I may be wrong. Actually now I think about it when we were looking into schools for dd she did come with me, but that was because I had nobody to take her, and it would have been easier without her tbh.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 16:50

I took DS to open day at Windham sfx so I would think so otherwise surely they would state no children.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 16:52

sfx had email back from council catchmetn was 688 metres in 2007 , 2008 will be available within a month

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 16:53

yes because it is a Tuesday morning we wouldn't have a choice and I expect dh would want to be there too but will ask the school thanks or rather EE-FAH

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 16:55

blinking foreigner newcomers

slng · 08/09/2008 17:09

I took DS1 with me to visit one school and both DS1 and DS2 to visit another school. The attitude to the children is the revealing bit.

I found that the most off-putting thing in the school experience so far is that the school seems to expect certain things, mostly very reasonable things, but WOULD THEY BLOODY TELL YOU? WOULD THEY??

"No children" in a school? That would just tell you everything, won't it?

sillybigsausage · 08/09/2008 19:44

SFX I took Dcs to school visits before they started - the were prospective nose -arounds to seif we liked it, rather tha for parents who had already got a place for there preciouses

Slng - I aways feel as though I have climbed a mountain by the time I have got DCs up, breakfasted, packed lunches, checked homework and school letters and PE kits done, shoes on etc and then arrived at work

Work is like a blessed rest!!!Phew

In at the deep end here - tests last week (third day back at school) then DS2 had to research Greek myths tonight on the www so he can write about one of his choice tomorrow for 40 mins!!! He has chosen the Trojan Horse I said if he runs out of ideas, he can just draw the horse!

DD had to do a writing test for 20 mnutes on Friday - I mean she can barely write her name!!!!

The good thing is that DS2 is much, much happier this year with a different teacher and has regained his enthusiasm about his work Have bought him loads of trendy plastic folders for hi homework so he can take a pride in it

Sorry am rambling - am tres immersed in back-to school stuff here at Planet Sausage

sillybigsausage · 08/09/2008 19:48

SFX there s usually a class collection for teachers and classroom assistants at Christmas by the class reps. Hey you would mae an excellent class rep!!!!

Can't we just go out and eat rather than see a film? We could always do Wagamamas if people are skint after summer hols?

Shall I start a Noodle thread?

sfxmum · 08/09/2008 19:59

wagamama burned down is it up again?

and thanks about info will email later

dd is demanding drugs to sleep better, she does love her cough syrup but she is also quite cranky
