How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

Cov, I agree, it's your day and your party!! A spa day sounds like a brill idea. Well, at this end - I'm still alive!! PC when I saw you this morning and indicated that we had a bit of a day ahead, it was the understatement of the year. Our plumber managed to cut through a mains gas pipe, we had to evacuate immediately and call the National Grid! The gas just kept on pumping out. Was suitably scary. All sorted now and an electrician is coming to rewire the dodgy rewire on Monday! I think we can safely say that I won't be forging ahead with a career in property development after this. Anyway - cold outside or what?! Ros, dd and I would be around tomorrow arvo if you fancy a meet-up. Will not be online in the morning so will stick your number in my phone and give you a text in the morning. Off now to check out the artytots link as I'm still keen to get there at some point. PC sorry to hear you've not had a particularly briliant day either ...

slng · 01/02/2008 20:02

COV - Hope you find a way out.

SJ - I've only tried naan recipe using yogurt as rising agent and probably left it too cold and didn't let it rise enough. Would love to have a recipe that works. DSs also would scoff vast amount of any type of bread. I'm upping the dose of ginger and the non-hot spices in their food in the hope that one day they'll eat proper curry.

SJ99 · 02/02/2008 11:08

Morning all

What a beautiful day. Went for swim this morning and the car thermometer said it was 2degrees outside

Bunyan - what a nightmare with gas leak, must've been scary for you all. Glad it's sorted, it will be worth it in the long run

PC - also what a nightmare, explains the nutcase behaviour from downstairs. Maybe neighbour was hamming up the stories for effect though?

Slng - I use trusty old baking powder for rising agent! DS loves curry but as usual he will eat something one day but not the next, same with the breads, there isn't much logic to what he will eat - I've given up trying to fathom it anyway. I have to add tons of yogurt and cream to his portion or just leave out the chilli when cooking curry for him. Will send recipe now while I remember...

Sorry slng, couldn't email you, can you change your CAt settings please?

OP posts:
slng · 02/02/2008 14:03

SJ - sorry. I've changed it.

slng · 02/02/2008 14:05

SJ - not sure if it works. Anyway my email
address is [email protected].

Paddlechick666 · 02/02/2008 18:29

what a fabulous rugby result

good call kew, thanks for the teething advice. honestly thought all that was behind us but it really must be the reason dd is having such shocking nappies.

also mightily relieved that she's not infectious.

bunyanvillas · 02/02/2008 19:59

Fabulous, schmabulous rugby result - that's as maybe but I didn't appreciate being stuck on the A4 for over an hour today just trying to get to Kew Gdns! Or perhaps there was an incident and it wasn't just rugby traffic in which case I take it all back Oh well, the upshot was an emergency tea in Ask thus negating the need for me to cook which is always good as I am such a slattern Ros, was good to see you and ds who is terribly cute! Hope the trip home was straightforward and you have a nice girly evening!

Paddlechick666 · 02/02/2008 21:22

bunyan your day on friday sounded horrific! hope things have improved and monday goes a great deal better.

you'll see dd with CM at drop off. assuming she's with CM on Monday. she's had the most awful diarrhea today but i think kew has spotted that it's a teething thing.

bad mummy that i am didn't even know that more teeth were due or think to check! there are no other symptoms and she is still scoffing everything in sight so think it must be a molar i found poking thru.

anyways, hope all are well. house is a tip so plan a bit of domestic stuff in the morning tomorrow. after that, who knows! we'll be around n about tho if anyone else it.

rosmerta · 02/02/2008 21:23

Evening all

Boo to the rugby result ! Really nice to see you & your dd again, ds seemed to enjoy himself. Waited ages for a bus that was then packed, ds ended up sat in the luggage bit!

Anyway, am now in bed with a glass of wine & watching Bridget Jones!

rosmerta · 02/02/2008 22:14

Guess I'm on my own here as well!

Paddle, glad dd isn't too bad, explosive nappies aren't too much fun though! We might be around tomorrow afternoon, depends on when ds wakes up.

Paddlechick666 · 03/02/2008 09:04

morning all

not a great night in the paddle house. dd up for a while and more explosive nappies.

ended up in my bed and she slept till 8:30am

not sure how to play today, neither of us are feeling too lively!

doubt she'll nap much today, depending on how the bottom performs we might head to kew for lunch and the afternoon.

Paddlechick666 · 03/02/2008 09:27

happy birthday SFX & Kew!

bright n beautiful day for you both.

am wondering whether to take dd to outpatients appt today or hang on till tomorrow and see GP.

she's drinking a fair bit but she seems to be going off eating and getting tummy ache now which she wasn't before.

poor little thing, i feel so bad for her.

rosmerta · 03/02/2008 09:43

Morning all

Happy birthday Kew & SFX, hope you have good days.

Paddle, sorry dd still isn't well. No advice really, but if you're really worried maybe take her today just to put your mind at ease. Could it be something she's eaten that's upset her stomach a little?

Not sure what we're going to be doing today, ds is missing dh a bit so we might just have a quiet day. Plus I've realised my Kew membership has expired & I don't fancy paying for what would be an hour or so!

Paddlechick666 · 03/02/2008 09:50

well, i've called nhs direct and the nurse is going to call me back within an hour apparently.

SJ99 · 03/02/2008 10:17

Morning all

Fingers crossed minipads feels better soon. Ds also been teething on and off for past 2wks, the nappies are pretty unmistakeable, yuk!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kew & SFX

We had to abandon our night out in Cov Gdn as it took us over an hr to get from Twickers to Hounslow tube st last night, traffic was horrendous. We just thought by the time we would've made to London it wouldn't be long before we'd have to turn around and get back for babysitter. So we cut our losses and had a spontaneous night out in Chiswick instead!

Might just have day at home seeing as DH off to Bristol tonight for another wk

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 03/02/2008 10:31

NHS direct called back really quickly and were very reassuring.

basically not much to do other than keep fluids up and ride it out. can't be sure if it's bug or teething. at least she's drinking plenty and altho she wasn't too keen on her toast the bribery biscuits (whilst on phone to reduce yelling!) went down fine!!!

sj, who d'you use wrt to babysitting? night out in chiswick or cov gdn sounds fab!

we might take a stroll in the park later just to get some fresh air.

guess i'll have to re-schedule diary and take tomorrow off now.

stepfordwife · 03/02/2008 10:45

heard this morning my BF's mum has died
so if anyone knows of anyone who wants a cat - adult female a very timid homebird, give me a shout. imagine probably be a good pet for an older person, as not used to kids. but any ideas for a good home gratefully received.

Happy Birthday Kew and SG+FX

I have been up all night with a vomiting DS2. Had to pursuade phamicist to sell me some Diaralyte as he is getting limp and dehydrated (not meant to be used for under 1s) Changed the bed six times last night then had to get up and take Ds2 to church as he was doing a redaing.

And DH has gone to work as 70 students moving in today so he has to be there....

Steppy how are you now?

Paddle - hope your DDs bum calms down today. Have you got something to bind her stools up a bit (eggs, bananas)? Is she eating?

CoV - that is so annoying about your birthday. I think you should send DH to party with kids as he is committed to it and then you have some fun with some of your friends Men just don't think do they?

Paddle - I have ordered SKY TV "at last"!! my kids say)and their wireless router should arrive be the weekend hopefully. Am looking forward to having Disney channel...

I have had no BT internet connection since 6pm Friday, which kind of helped me make the decision to swith to sky. Plus when I was talking to BT, they were so slow that by the time I'd come off the phone DD had covered her face in my lippy and cut half her hair off . --- She has her school photos tomorrow

Luckily she has a hair appointment booked today!

Am off to sulk now see you all later

BTW finished A Thousand Splendid Suns and am feeling quite emotional as a result of reading it - its a very harrowing book. Brilliantly written, but very harrowing

Paddlechick666 · 03/02/2008 12:19

ds2 was doing a reading! wow!

sorry to hear he's not well, it's a nightmare isn't it?

luckily for me dd is drinking heaps and eating what takes her fancy. which is mainly mini-cheddars, malted milk biscuits and jelly!

am pretty stressed about having to take tomorrow off, just hope she'll be getting over by then and can go back to CM on tuesday.

BT are utterly rubbish aren't they? i am still downloading my emails from them 2 months after ending my contract with them. talk about breach of DP Act. no experience of the Sky 'net offering but can't be any worse than BT eh!

No spoilers on A Thousand Splendid Suns please. Am about a quarter way thru it.

Making me really think about how dreadful womens lives can be and feeling a bit guilty about the bonkers neighbour if the DV story is true.

MrsRecycle · 03/02/2008 13:17

Happy Birthday Kew & SFX - enjoy your day.

Sorry to hear about your night and ds2 Foxie - try Motilium (or Dom Perion!). ds had it prescribed from GOSH - the amount you give him is based on his weight. That's the first of many times that dd will take your lippy and cut her hair... Watch out with sky - my sis had problems trying to get connected with them. I just used BT for phone, Virgin (non cable) for Wireless, Sky TV for digital.

pc - sorry to hear dd isn't well again - I do remember when dd2 was around the same age, the doc wanted to see her every month because she was constantly d&v and she never put on any weight. He said, don't worry too much, they can go without eating for 5 days but as long as they drink (boy does she drink!) they are okay (even if it comes up again). I worked out though that the d&v was caused by lactose intollerance (process of elimination).

steppie - sorry to hear about bf's Mum - how terrible.

rosmerta · 03/02/2008 13:56

Hi all, sorry to hear about your friend steppie

Paddle, I'm around tomorrow if you need any help, could look after dd if it would help at all?

Sj, sorry your night into London didn't work out but at least you still had a good time!

We ended up on the train to Waterloo this morning & back again, I'm almost awake with my exciting life at the minute!

Think we'll stay home this afternoon, if anyone's around, more than welcome for a cup of tea!

Paddlechick666 · 03/02/2008 14:33

ros, that's really kind of you. would hate to pass anything on to ds tho if she is infectious.

steppie, forgive my insensitive ignoring of your bf's bereavement. it's so sad when a friend's parent dies. when my bf's mum died in nov i was very surprised at how much it affected me. not sure why, in retrospect, as our families are close and i should have expected to feel as upset as i did iyswim. still felt weird tho, like i was being over-dramatic about it after all it wasn't my mum but i really did feel the grief.

mrsR, thanks for the advice. this is first bout of D we've had in nearly a year so i guess we've been lucky really.

am hoping there won't be any more today or tomorrow then Tues she can go back to CM. NHS direct said 48hrs after last episode before releasing from quarantine!

rosmerta · 03/02/2008 14:35

The offer's there anyway, ds seems to have a cast-iron immune system so don't worry about that!!

stepfordwife · 03/02/2008 14:47

hi all
thanks for kind word on friend's mum

paddle, meant to say that's awful about your neighbour if she is suffering from DV.
hmmmm minicheddars and jelly..i'm liking dd's diet..

foxie..there you are.
poor ds2. (and poor you)..hope he feels better. as long as he's fluids and diarlyte, he'll be ok (blimey..i certainly gave it to my lot before they were 1)

feeling lot better thanks, can't moan as get ill very rarely. been a long time shaking it off and just feel so tired. but got to crack on as got lot of work on and, oh, 3 dcs to look after

the brood have gone out for a pub lunch with dh and MIL while i'm bloody working. ds1 was not impressed and said, after all, i had some 'me-time' yesterday...(er, was also working..). but i don't expect him to understand deadlines..ho-hum, another day, another guilt trip...

talking of which..better get on with it, eh?
