Not really on the High Desert where I live. A beautiful spring across the mountains in the Valley though.

Grockle · 03/02/2011 07:04

Kickass, that's what I missed in the US though. We have 4 very distinct seasons in the uk, each one roughly the same length. To me, that is far more pleasing than intense 5 month long summers and winters with a few short weeks of iffy weather in between. I missed the spring flowers and am so happy to have a garden full if emerging snowdrops, daffodils & hyacinths.

kickassangel · 03/02/2011 14:19

perhaps that's the difference of living in a city? mid dec - mid mar is pretty cold & snowy here, then there's a load of rain & thunderstorms & tornadoes, by mid may it is warm to hot and suddenly all the plants spring to life, by end of aug too hot & humid for me, then it varies wildly, but often windy & sunny, all those autumn colors, til about nov, when the temp goes down.

i 'get' now why people do the whole 'decorating for the season' thing - there's such a difference between them all, that it feels like a real change, and therefore time to change the scatter cushions (or whatever)

Grockle · 03/02/2011 19:16

Do you have seasonal scatter cushions, kickass?

MmeBucket · 03/02/2011 19:30

What is a seasonal scatter cushion?

So we had a bit of excitement last night. DH got a call from a friend he hasn't seen in years, but still keeps in touch with. (Friend lives in LA) He came over for dinner last night. The kids were super excited, because he rode up on a loud motorcycle and had "weird clothes" on. (He said he was in a motorcycle club, but later admitted he was in a "non-outlaw" biker gang.) So they got to freak out over his bike, helmet, and jacket.

kickassangel · 03/02/2011 21:13

i do NOT have seasonal scatter cushions - but i do have seasonal decorative plates, for easter, & christmas, but not valentines or halloween (getting there).

i also have a willow wreath that i put different colour ribbons on at various times in the year.

mme bucket - i think i'd get all excited if a man turned up on a big bike, all dressed in leathers

fridakahlo · 03/02/2011 22:25

LOL Kickass!
So we have done the move! The comcast guys have been, dug out the box from under the snow (yay internet!).
Yesterday was fabulous [hmn], no puking during the day but as soon as my dd and dh arrived (she had been with a friend for the day) she threw up all over the garage steps (thank goodness they were coming in that way). Dh had just recieved a ticket for speeding as well (silly bugger!). Then just as we were sitting down to our takeaway dinner(plain rice for the kids), my ds projectile vomited all over the food (blerk!). Luckily half of it was still in the tubs with the lid on. Then to top it all off, my dh whilst moving his car into the garage after the movers had left, slipped on the ice. Thankfully he did not break anything.
A day I shall not be repeating in a hurry.
Anyway I am off to cook dinner for DH and myself in my new kitchen.
Hope everyone is having a better time than we managed yesterday.

tadjennyp · 03/02/2011 22:42

That sounds like a very exciting day frida. Glad you are in your new house and you get to cook in your new kitchen!

kickassangel · 03/02/2011 23:37

i think frida & family are more in need of a shower than me. that must have been horrible, and i would have been traumatised by it all.

MmeBucket · 05/02/2011 04:07

So is anyone else watching this thread daily to see if Tad shows up so they can wildly speculate when she's going to pop out that baby?

kickassangel · 05/02/2011 04:24

latest news at end of this thread

kickassangel · 05/02/2011 04:25

or, rather, this one d'oh

tadjennyp · 05/02/2011 06:51

Going into hospital at 9 tomorrow to have my waters broken. The OB seems to think that is all it will take, but then he is also surprised that I am still pregnant! Confused. Hopefully he will be born tomorrow - keep your fingers crossed!

fridakahlo · 05/02/2011 12:36

Is there a reason they are not starting you using pessaries? Hope everything goes well for you xx

MmeBucket · 06/02/2011 00:12

Well that takes all the fun of trying to guess when baby Tad will come. We'll be thinking of you tomorrow, and hope for a short, non-eventful arrival tomorrow.

Grockle · 06/02/2011 14:51

Thinking of you, Tad

MacMomo · 06/02/2011 23:36

Hello I am moving from uk to las Vegas in august due to dh's work. We will be there for 2-3 yrs. I have one DD aged 5 weeks. Please may I join your thread?

kickassangel · 06/02/2011 23:48

anyone can join our thread - you don't even have to live in america. we do sometimes go on a bit about food, or how do you get a driver's licence type things, but we'll talk to anyone.

the BIG NEWS is that tadjenny is having her baby today - hopefully!

any Q's about the move, we're the ones to ask, the answer is invariably, erm, don't know, depends on the state!

are you looking forward to the move?

tadjennyp · 07/02/2011 02:12

Baby Samuel Jude born Saturday 5th February at 8lbs8oz. Really short and powerful labour that bloody hurt! He is really yummy though!

Welcome MacMomo.

kickassangel · 07/02/2011 04:30

oh wow! congrats Tad.

i'm impressed (and pleased) by how quickly you let us all know.

fantastic news.

MacMomo · 07/02/2011 12:09

tadjenny congratulations! Really love the names you have chosen. Hope you're recovering well.

I am really looking forward to the move, but it does end my career. Comes as a bit of a shock! I have never been to Vegas but what I have read is very positive. Especially looking forward to exploring all the great outdoors and exciting cities.

findanewnamequick · 07/02/2011 16:31

Congratulations tad! Beautiful names.

MmeBucket · 07/02/2011 17:35

Congratulations!!!! Thanks for not keeping us in suspense.

Grockle · 07/02/2011 19:51

What fab news, congrats Tad. Lovely name.

Welcome Mac Smile

fridakahlo · 08/02/2011 02:23

Congratulations tadjennyp. DD would have been a Samuel if she were a boy! :)
