Mme, I noticed the DP as well. Congrats, grockle :)

tadjennyp · 30/01/2011 04:25

Well congratulations grockle - didn't realise you had a new DP! Have fun!

MmeBucket · 30/01/2011 17:58

Changing the subject back to phone calls, is everyone registered on the Do Not Call list? It stops telemarketers from calling you. I'm not sure what it does about political calls, and companies you do business with that have your phone number can call you, but it reduces a really large percentage of general calls you don't want. (In case anyone here didn't know)

Now let's change the subject back to grockle's well-deserved DP, and hopefully she'll enlighten us more, instead of doing a casual mention and run.

Grockle · 30/01/2011 19:20

lol @ you lot!

I never gave my phone number at the cash register but would give my zipcode, if asked.

As for DP - it's not really new - we've been together for 10 months. He's not officially living with us but is here often and does my ironing and polishes DS's shoes. He's quite nice Wink

kickassangel · 30/01/2011 22:01

you've kept v quiet about him grockle!
still, always so glad to hear that life is working out for you - i reckon karma owed you a break

kickassangel · 01/02/2011 02:59

ooh, we're due a BIG snowstorm in the next couple of days. about a foot predicted in 24 hours.

i've been watching the temp drop - it's gone from 24F to 15F since about 5pm this eve.

we were planning to try cross-country ski-ng this weekend, so should be fun!

fridakahlo · 01/02/2011 03:33

We are meant to be moving on Wednesday. Well we might make it despite the snow. Wish us luck!
Whereabouts are you kickassangel?

tadjennyp · 01/02/2011 03:39

That sounds really exciting kickass - also on my list of things to try next winter!

kickassangel · 01/02/2011 03:48

i'm in michigan, so we get 'lake effect' snow, except most of it gets dumped on the west side of michignan, we're on the east, then the wind blows over lake huron & dumps snow over the other side. so we tend not to get feet of snow, just inches. north michigan (above the lake) sometimes gets several metres/yards of snow - mi tech uni advertise their 'snow tunnels' as some kind of selling point!!

temp is now 14F - it's due to go down to 5F tomorrow eve, with wind chill taking it as low as -10F

hot water bottles all round.

dd is v excited that she may be getting a snow day. they already had today for some random excuse reason. honestly, how am i meant to get mn housework done with her home?

kickassangel · 01/02/2011 03:49

good luck with the move, frida - we moved in during snow as well! luckily they're used to it & just carry on unless it's really severe.

PenguinArmy · 01/02/2011 03:58
fridakahlo · 01/02/2011 16:55

Well to futher complicate matters I have a puking little guy! He just wants to cuddle so really don't know how I am going to get the rest of the tidying/sorting done. And dh will not be around until after half one tomorrow so I'm really hoping this will just be a 24 hour thing!
kickassangel hope your dd is getting her snow day!

tadjennyp · 01/02/2011 17:54

Hope he gets better soon frida and you manage to get everything sorted for your move.

Grockle · 01/02/2011 19:15

Ooo, Snow. I am sure you are all fed up with it now but it sounds exciting when you have none. I miss the first big snowfall but I don't miss 5 months of knee-deep snow a ridiculously cold temperatures. Stay warm.

kickassangel · 01/02/2011 20:53

grockle - they've closed o'hare airport & american airlines have cancelled all flights in the region, apparently the area for the storm is over 100 miles!!

everyone is predicting emergency vehicles only allowed on the roads tomorrow. it will be such a disappointment if we wake up to just a couple of inches.

Grockle · 01/02/2011 21:49

I've heard - they're closing Lake Shore Drive too which is one of the busiest roads through the city but runs right along the lake (as the name suggests Wink) I've never heard them do that before. Scary storm.

MmeBucket · 01/02/2011 21:59

That's what is great about my part of Oregon. Four distinct seasons, and hardly any snow or crazy weather to disrupt things. Of course we can get 1/2 an inch, and that will practically shut the whole city down. . .

Grockle · 01/02/2011 22:02

Same here, MmeBucket... 4 seasons and a touch of snow that closes schools for a day. Hooray!

PenguinArmy · 01/02/2011 22:42

I hope I never live where there is proper weather

fridakahlo · 01/02/2011 22:57

The snow warning has backed off, but instead we will be getting icy rain, leading to a "glaze". Last time that happened the car was coated in ice that I had to smash off, oh joy.
On the bright side DS has not thrown up for well over an hour, hooray. And he will not be getting cheese, whatever his opinion on the matter!

kickassangel · 01/02/2011 23:46

there is proper weather here, great big bucket loads of it. looks v impressive when i turn the outside lights on, from the safety of my centrally heated house.

frida - i hate when they're sick, there's nothing you can do & they don't understand.

tadjennyp · 02/02/2011 01:13

Four distinct seasons sounds great - I really miss Spring and Spring flowers. I hope the weather isn't too disruptive and dangerous though.

jabberwocky · 02/02/2011 14:26

marking place

kickassangel · 02/02/2011 19:12

i think if i went back to the uk now i'd miss the seasons, it would all just feel like a bit of a drab version of real summer, autumn etc.

jabberwocky · 03/02/2011 02:20

No spring in Oregon? Confused
