Quite how far and wide are we MN-ers spread?

I'm in Egypt with my 3-mo multicultural DD (DH is Egyptian-Kurdish-British and we work in aid/social and cultural development). Although I'm occasionally homesick, I'm very happy that our LO will get a varied perspective of life, as well as being bilingual.

I see there are MN-ers as far away from the UK as UAE, S. Africa, Australia and NZ, as well as Europe.

How far afield and off the beaten track do we MN-ers get? From A(fghanistan) to Z(ambia)?

Unfortunately I'm in Oxfordshire now, but have lived in both Mexico and Borneo - so can I be allowed to join?!

Hello Vulpes, good to see another Arabist on MN - and MN hasn't been blocked in Syria (unlike FB). (Sorry oftenpurple, Dubai deosn't count as truly Arab).

MrsBun, you are elusive - are you worried us MNers will descend on you en masse and spoil your island paradise, or that the authorities will discover you and ban MN?

So far, furthest north is in Norway (69.68N - or does Kitimat beat that?) and furthest south is Wellington (41 S).

There are a few of us here in Singapore. It's a small island in South East Asia, eh Mrs Bun?

It's also 1 degree North of the Equator.

I am in Wimbledon so don't really count. I loved it when Xenia posted from Iran. It felt exciting.

vulpes · 29/12/2009 11:51

hey cairolucy, yes the banning of things online is v. annoying.

here everything except mumsnet is banned!

but have proxy server (nervously looks over shoulder) so can at least log onto facebook sometimes. but it doesnt really work very well.

what i find most annoying actually is that i cant look at any blogs. and also, the weirdest things are blocked. like amazon dot com is banned, but amazon dot co dot uk isnt........

have actually just found the the FOOC thread and am so so freakin happy! am only on page 6 though and the bloody power keeps going off so struggling to catch up!

lovely to have others to chat to

I'm in Brazil. Have been here on and off since I was 8 years old, though...

CairoLucy · 29/12/2009 12:45

Hello again Sal. Were you a MN-er when you were in Borneo and Mexico? Borneo is surely one of the more unlikely/obscure countries to find a MN-er.

BC, we lived in Yemen, an amazing country which I still miss and am passionate about, and which gets an unfairly bad press, though I admit I wouldn't want live there with a child at the moment.

Any other MN-ers in similarly off-the-beaten tracks places?

im in hampshire england. I really thought this was a rude thread when i clicked on it

CairoLucy · 29/12/2009 12:48

Brazil! Cool - almost a continent in its own right, so varied: are you a Rio babe or an Amazonian woman?

knicknack - Nothing like a double entendre to catch people's attention!

Neither, I'm in cosmopolitan Sao Paulo.

MrsBun · 29/12/2009 12:59

Ha! Flimflam I wish! Visited recently and had a fab meal in holland village - in an old military base I think?? DOn't get that style where we are!

ThumbleBells · 29/12/2009 13:43

Am quite boring really then - am in NSW, Australia - but in the country, apparently. We are 1.5hrs N of Sydney and about 45mins S of Newcastle - a small town. Been here since August - DH's family are here, which is why we've moved here as well - and it's going ok so far. However, it might get worse when he starts work in January as I still don't really know anyone much in the area.

Amapoleon · 29/12/2009 13:50

I'm in Spain and Gibraltar, not one of the most exciting locations on mumsnet!.

Francagoestohollywood · 29/12/2009 13:56

I'm Italian, I lived in the UK for 8 yrs (where I discovered MN, among other things!), we are now in Milan, Italy. Not that exciting.

Vienna, Austria - not very exciting. We used to live in HK then Vietnam and then Bosnia.

oftenpurple · 29/12/2009 18:19

LOL Cairolucy, there's a clue in the country name United Arab Emirates. I'd agree about not being a particularly Islamic city, but definitely Arab.

Meid · 29/12/2009 20:00

Johannesburg

Sibble · 29/12/2009 21:00

Auckland here - and according to Wiki '36.52 S and 174.46 E' and those darn Wellingtonians pip us at a longitude of about 175° East and a latitude of about 41° South.

JeMeSouviens · 29/12/2009 21:28

Norway wins, Kitimat is only about 54 deg or something around there.

MrsBun - Thanks He's enjoying the snow here.

mvemjsunp · 29/12/2009 21:42

Hope you don't mind, jemesouviens, but I looked up your town on GoogleEarth.

What is it like to live in such a small town, so far from a major metropolitan area?

How are you coping with the winter?

MmeLindt · 29/12/2009 22:02

No idea of latitude and longitude but I am now in Switzerland, near Geneva. Formerly near Düsseldorf in Germany, originally from Scotland

Must go and look up the FOOC thread, not been on there for ages.

FlyingReindeer · 30/12/2009 09:48

Just north of Paris, so not at all exotic!
