Thanks so much some great suggestions! We would come weds 22nd or thurs 23rd so quite soon. Hardest bit is probably the flight and dh would travel with us so that's fine.

We had our first weekend out of town last week since arriving in Nov and it was so great to have a change of scenery its got me all excited about travel!!

Dcs will LOVE the bus - public transport is pretty much non-existent in Iowa!

I think so long as the hotel room is big enough we'll come as its more fun than staying home alone!
Thanks again.

SuperBunny · 02/04/2009 20:00

Oh, very soon! The fountains won't be on then because it's still flipping freezing but all the other stuff will be open. If you want to meet for coffee or something, let me know although it sounds like you won't have much time.

Bunkups33 · 03/04/2009 01:07

Meeting up sounds lovely - but yes time will be short. How about I let you know where we will be nearer the time just in case you are nearby / free??

I think the aquarium and the childrens museum look the most tempting. There is so much more to do than here in Des Moines! Dh's company has a Chicago office but apparently there is no way he'd be moved there which is a shame!

tangarine · 03/04/2009 03:29

Helloooo.

I'm here at last!

Looking out at the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings and pinching myself.

It's fab .

nooka · 03/04/2009 04:22

We really liked Chicago (although dd lost her very precious doll there, which was very sad). The Shed (aquarium) was half closed when we visited though, so disappointing. It's a fun city for walking around/taking the bus.

SuperBunny · 03/04/2009 15:18

They might be doing work on the aquarium at the moment so it may be best avoided. Am not sure if it just the outside they are doing or inside - am sure the website will say.

Do tech know that the instructions for making festive smileys (and shouldn't the plural of smiley be smilies?) sayd 'put an f in front, so: [bsmile]

nooka · 04/04/2009 05:56

I thought that festive was Christmas related? Not sure I'm very keen on themed faces!

SuperBunny · 04/04/2009 14:41

Cali

Thank you SO much! DS was thrilled.

lol cali, glad you enjoyed your spork experience

I agree about Oakland. I was at a convention there a few years ago and had a really scary experience on the BART

SuperBunny · 06/04/2009 00:53

Oakland sounds scary. While Cali was enjoying her paper plate and spork I was drinking wine, eating cheese and fancy chocolates at enology - a wine bar that serves, well, wine, cheese and chocolate. Was yum.

Snow, hail, rain and wind here. Lovely.

Has Dooney left us?

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 06/04/2009 00:56

I want to go to enology

tangarine · 06/04/2009 01:07

Thanks for the welcome jabber.

DS2 starts school tomorrow morning. He's worried that everyone will stare at him poor lamb.

SuperBunny · 06/04/2009 01:13

Twas lovely, Jabber.

Hope school goes ok tomorrow, tangerine. They might not stare but they will probably make him say stuff 'in English' over and over again.

alipiggie · 06/04/2009 01:18

Checking in finally. Been to the museum today = snowing again here . Yesterday spent swimming and friday we went to see Monsters vs. Aliens - absolute must see.

Tangerine your DS2 will have a blast. The kids might ask you what language you speak (like I got) but the kids do brilliantly.

SB hope you're having a great time with your Mum. We've got an Oxfam parcel and a Marks and Spencer parcel on route (yeah for the free shipping). So very excited - choccie and bovril from my mum and knickers from Mr Spencer. Work still busy but not knocking it. Hope all are well, my two have finally recovered from the stomach flu. CF you would NOT have been a happy lady.

dooneygirl · 06/04/2009 02:54

No, I just got on some vacuum the fridge and empty everything out of every drawer, cabinet, and closet spring cleaning jag. And we actually had a babysitter yesterday, which only happens about twice a year. And the weather has been gorgeous, so we've been outside all of today. Oh, yeah, and DH sent me out by myself shopping for a few hours a few days ago. That was fun, because I had some money from surveys I did, and didn't feel guilty spending it.

Enology sounds great. At least the chocolate part.

Welcome to America, tangarine. Hope DS has a good day tomorrow.

Colin's baseball starts tomorrow. Should be 75, so nice and warm and not rainy. And he's not behind the rest of the teams in the league, either, as the weather was so bad, all the teams canceled both practices. It poured, hailed, gusted heavy winds and made lightening one night. I'm seriously thinking indoor soccer next year, although I heard kids don't like it because they don't let them kick the ball really hard for some reason even though it is a huge complex.

dooneygirl · 06/04/2009 03:00

Made lightening? Whatever I meant.

Oh, yeah, and if anyone wants to do a Lexulous game, I'm up for it. Tomorrow is going to be long, because I have grocery shopping, helping at Colin's school then practice, but after that everything is back to normal for me. DH plays, but he takes about 3 days between every turn. And it is even worse than playing with Anorak in terms of skill level. Nobody he knows plays any word games with him, as he trounces everyone.

kickassangel · 06/04/2009 14:34

so, on thurs me & dd sat outside eating ice cream.
today we will be going seldding in about 4 inches of snow!!
freaky place

Bunkups33 · 06/04/2009 19:36

Freaky indeed and 'tis the same here! Don't know about you but I find the wild temperature fluctuation harder to get used to than weeks of freezing cold.

Surely spring must be coming??

SuperBunny · 06/04/2009 19:37

Same here, Kickass. Most odd. And my windows have decided to leak so my carpet is sodden. There's 3 of us living in 1 room this week and now 1/3 of that room is unusable. Great.

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 06/04/2009 19:38

It surely must Bunkups. Sometime. There has been snow in Chicago in May in the past...

OP posts:
Bunkups33 · 06/04/2009 20:07

Wet carpet and cold weather not a good combination. I hope you get dried out soon!
