Considering a move to Dubai with young children and mixed feelings

My husband has been offered a job in Dubai, we currently stay in the country with 2 young children - aged 5 and 1. 5 year old is starting school in a few weeks. We have a lot of family and friends close by and I work part time (2.5 days a week) and stay with my children the other days. I love my life here, feel settled etc so I am really wary of moving. I would stay at home with the children in Dubai for the first year or 2 then put my littlest into P/T nursery at age 3. We have been offered a very good package but I am still unsure, feel im sacrificing a lot. Has anyone made this move and have any insight.
I have not been to Dubai before but I have been to surrounding areas (Abu Dhabi, Qatar) so I have an insight of holidaying there.

The OP was looking for advice, not a pile on from the usual virtue signallers who love it when anyone mentions Dubai on here so they’re can jump on and say how wonderfully principled they are. Never been but claim to know everything about it.

I used to live there. I can assure you I know about it.

No I’ve never been. As a Jewish woman with a gay mother there are very good reasons it hasn’t been on my list.

Good for you. The virtue signaller I was talking to said they’ve never been.

The OP wanted advice, advice was given on what they should research themselves to ensure the safety of themselves and their children. If you see caring about human rights as virtue signalling then that’s your problem.

🤣 you’re a true hero. I hope my kids grow up to be just like you. Posting on mumsnet will definitely improve the lives of the people you claim to care so much about. I imagine they’ll erect a statue of you to show their gratitude.

Is everything ok @ThatSunnyCrow

People here are just voicing valid concerns.

If the job offer wasn’t on the table, would you consider moving away from your current life?

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · 06/08/2026 10:16

There is no way on this planet I would take children to Dubai.

I think I’d give it a go for a year or so whilst your kids are so little. I think there’s an ex pat forum on Mumsnet - think it’s called Living Overseas. You might get more information there. There are also forums on Facebook etc of people living out there.

Fantastic thank you. I just can’t stand clicktivism. Have a lovely day flower.

I honestly would say I am in a bit of a funny place, the mum guilt of not being with my kids 2.5 days during the week, im thinking of am i throwing away precious time I could have with them when they are young, in a new country etc.
I am awful at decision making!

Don't feel guilty at all, most mums work now. You have the 2.5 days a week with them too. Don't make a huge decision due to this, in a few year's you will be glad you kept working. If you have friends and family where you are and a job, don't underestimate how helpful that is. I imagine that Dubai is quite transient where people are friendly as they need to be as everyone is in the same position, but where people move on again all the time. Friend's OH was in the forces and they moved around, it was like that.
