Scooter
We have got used to packing our car full of teabags and heinz beans when we are in Scotland, so it is only when I run out that I go to the Englísh shop. But thanks for the offer

We are near Düsseldorf, between Neuss and MG

Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 14:13

You're VERY near us, KS - much nearer than Cologne, I think. Next time you run out of Typhoo, give me a shout and I'll smuggle you into the Naafi on camp

Scooter
You are my new best friend.

My Mum has a good Naafi story. Her Great Uncle always complained that when my Grandad phoned to let him know that Mum had been born, he lost his place in the Naafi queue. Mum is over 60 and has never heard the end of it. For this reason I have always wanted to be in a Naafi queue.

Report
Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 18:25

Come on over! Bring your mum and your great-uncle too. I know the manager at the Naafi - I'll get him to the front of the queue

On a serious note, if you do need a scoot around an English shop (the Naafi here is just like Tesco!) just shout. We're at JHQ which is about 20 mins from MG.

Kindersurpise · 20/02/2008 19:46

JHQ is on the border to Holland, is it not? We pass there on our way to Roermond to go to the outlet centre.

Sadly, Great Uncle Ian has gone to the great Naafi in the sky. He was a great guy, always used to say that he was very modest and we should call him Good Uncle Ian.

Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 19:55

KS - we're about 20 mins from the border. Come and have a cuppa next time you're off to Roermond.
And trockodile - that's such a kind offer. I'd love to go along to the church when we get there. I have friends who go to the International Baptist Church in Duss and they say it's amazing.

Silly question, I assume the International Church in Düsseldorf is in English? We have thought about going to the English Church in Cologne, but it is a good bit away. Do you happen to know if they have a Sunday School?

Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 20:17

Shame - mad stalking religious types are among my favourite kind of people My best friend over here also lives in Gutersloh which seems like a lovely place. We've been for breakfast in the town at some big cafe which was fab.

Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 20:19

KS - yes, it's all in English and they have a Sunday school and a creche. I can put you in touch with one of my friends who preaches there if you like. He's on Facebook!

Report
Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 20:20

Me again - sorry. You could always come to our church on camp, KS. We'd be delighted to have you and it's all in English unless the padre's had a rough night

Kindersurpise · 20/02/2008 20:37

Can we just come onto JHQ then? Do you have a Sunday School?

It is not just the church, I would love the DCs to have more English speaking friends. And the churches here in Germany do not have Sunday Schools so I have never dared take my monsters there. Or only once and we got tuttet at.

crapmomonMN · 20/02/2008 20:44

Trockodile - do I know you - where are you residing now!

Report
Scootergrrrl · 20/02/2008 21:03

How old are your DCs, KS? Mine are 4 and almost 2 but there are loads of children on here and three junior schools and one senior school. It's not a gated camp, as such, but there are guards on the gate so you'd need your passport or something to get on.
Sunday school is mostly inhabited by little monsters (mine included!) and I'm sure yours would fit in fine. You can CAT me if you want to find out more about whats on here you might be able to take advantage of.
Come on over before I go off to harrass trockodile in the north... (it is north, isn't it??)

Report
trockodile · 20/02/2008 21:38

CMomonMN-Don't know! Possibly! We have been in Gutersloh nearly 2 years,DS is nearly 3(May). Who are you?

We are more east than north of you i think SG! (Could be wrong!)

Report
Kindersurpise · 20/02/2008 21:42

Scooter,
That sounds great. I have an almost 6yo DD and a 3.5yo DS. I will CAT you.

I think Bielefeld is further East rather than north.

Report
crapmomonMN · 20/02/2008 21:51

Dont worry - got you totally confused - thought you had moved from Gutersloh and that I was with you today
