Firstly i will have to convince dh which will be no mean feat!

I don't want to be in a little village in the middle of nowhere, I don't want to be in the heart of a city. Other than that I am open to ideas. Thanks

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:25

I have a two bedroom open plan house, garden and community swimming pool, 10 minutes drive from local town. Nearest but not best beach 5 mins walk. I also have two dogs, so it might be a bit of a squash for you.

Happy New Year Spanish mumsnetters

Beetootoyourself · 31/12/2007 22:28

2 bed might be a bit small - but I tell you what - when I know our holiday - we will be going away for a few weeks with luck - we could stay at yours for a week but you could stay at ours for as long as we are away - give you a taste of Wells!!

Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:28

yes, just bracing myself for the fireworks waking the DDs...

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:29

Sounds great!

I'm on the case now!

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:31

Are you grape stuffing sm?

That's the other problem, my house is too small, we have downsized and now outgrown it. It is so expensive here now that I really don't want to lose my smallish mortgage to buy a bigger house when I am not sure that I want to stay.

And on that note I will stop moaning

OP posts:
Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:32

lucy5 - what are you hoping to get for your house? Do you have a mortgage to pay off? We have a house here which we are doing up, it's nearly finished. Unfortunately it's costing us so much i don't think there'll be much left over once we sell it and py off building loans and mortgage. Not planning to sell up and go for another 18 - 24 months and meantime the house prices are now falling here

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:32

I mean the house swap sounds great not the fireworks.

Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:33

no way, no grapes here see: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2423/447414?stamp=071231205459 !!!

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 31/12/2007 22:34

WendyWeber LOL at Chipping Norton.

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:36

The talk here is of falling prices but it seems to be levelling off but to be honest we got a bit of a bargain, so we should be ok. We are still in the process of doing up and might extend to make it more sellable [is that a real word?] I think realistically we are looking at 18 months -2 years too [sounds like a prison sentence]

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 31/12/2007 22:37

But I love Chipping Norton

(I don't live anywhere near there of course but it sounds fab!)

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:39

Hahaha David Cameron put me off, Clarkson I could just about tolerate

OP posts:
Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:40

yes it does sound like a prision sentence - the other day i was imagining myself back in the UK for good saying 'yes, i did 'life' in Spain' (it'll be 20 years in 2010

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 31/12/2007 22:41

Each to his/her own I suppose.

Chipping Norton is the butt of all jokes with people from Oxford, thats all it made me chuckle. (simple things please simple minds etc. )

Friends who lived there couldnt wait to leave. its a bit quiet and the people can be a bit snobbish

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:44

Oh lord! Will only be 7 for me in 2010. Anyway must stop moaning and go and be festive. Happy new year to all !

OP posts:
Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:50

yes, there go the first fireworks! Happy new year wherever you are everybody and hope all your wishes come true in 2008!

admylin · 01/01/2008 21:55

shitemum at doing life in Spain! I've done my time in Germany and am so looking forward to being 'let out' - thank goodness for Easyjet and Ryanair for cheap escapes back to civilization for hols eh!

lucy5 · 01/01/2008 22:23

Well the firecrackers woke ds up, so I decided to setle him with some milk, which he proceeded to throw up all over me. I indirectly did the grape thing as he also threw up undigested swollen raisins! [vomit emotion needed]

We actually had a lovely day today, went to a really lovely beach, really quiet. The weather was good and dd [crazy child] went for a swim and ds had a paddle.

Budget will dictate a lot I would guess. Can you give us a rough feel for the kind of budget you might have? Stamp duty is a big consideration now as well.

I live in Oxford and hope I never have to leave. However, one big downer here is apparently it is fairly notorious for hay fever!
