Firstly i will have to convince dh which will be no mean feat!

I don't want to be in a little village in the middle of nowhere, I don't want to be in the heart of a city. Other than that I am open to ideas. Thanks

Lucy, why don't you move inland? Granada is good. well, the towns around it are. we would have stayed if it weren't for family and my general homing instinct.

The problem is dhs work really. His job doesn't really exist in Spain. It's done by architects. His best chance of work is here.

can summer be too hot/

Lucy - next summer come and live in my town house in Wells and I will go stay in your house

kindersurprise · 31/12/2007 21:45

Scotland

If we were to move back to UK, I would love to move to Perth. Nice wee town, not too far from Glasgow and Edinburgh. You should get a lot more house for your money in Scotland too.

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 21:45

Hehehe good plan Beetroot. You will really look like one!

beety, we were in S Spain in late May/early June this year and the thermometer hit c 35 a couple of times; in our apartment, with windows closed and a/c on it was just about OK, but out and about it was pretty stifling. I can imagine August is horrid there.

SenoraP has chosen to return to the land of summer cardies

SenoraParsnip · 31/12/2007 21:52

yes, summer can indeed be too hot. I was a prisoner in my own home from June to Sept. opening the door was like switching on a massive hair dryer. AND all the houses we lived in had paper thin walls so cost an absolute fortune to heat in winter.

Would definitely second recommendation to head for Newcastle or surrounding area!
Have lived in or around Newcastle all of my life apart from uni years and a stint abroad. Now live just outside city in a fab village in Northumberland. Beautiful scenery, walks and fresh air yet 10-20 mins from Newcastle city centre and all it's wonderful amenities. Culturally, there's a huge amount to do, see, hear. Stuff for kids from 0 up is plentiful and the people are wonderful!!!
Shopping is fabulous with the metrocentre on your doorstep and Newcastle itself is great. LOADS of restaurants, Cafes, galleries and historical things such as Hadrians wall.

Basically, It's great - Can't recommend it highly enough! (and I'm a teacher too!)

That sounds lovely Catkin! I miss the English countryside too.

Come and live near me Luce!

Mid Cheshire, ruralish but 20 mins from Chester, 1 hr from Manchester and Liverpool, great schools, fab quality of live, lovely community spirit in thr village. Your ds can come to my toddler group.........

Go on, you know you want to .

Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:07

Lucy5 - your reasons for wanting to move back to the UK are almost exactly the same as mine, thank god it's not just me then!

Senora - Glad things are going well for you. Don't worry about the 'tat' comment, tat is what it is! If people want to buy it more fool them... another reason why i want to leave - there must be more to life than selling tat to tourists, even high class tat like wot i do

BrightBaublesBeetroot · 31/12/2007 22:09

Lucy has totally ignored my wonderfujl suggestion

WW I love the heat - Greece in August is heaven

TheOlihantheIvy · 31/12/2007 22:10

And we have Tumble Tots, Jo Jingles, etc. Lots of soft play within 20 mins or less drive. DH has a couple of friends who are surveyor types, so your dh would find a suitable job.

Am I convincing you?

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:13

Have you been on the gin Beety? I would love to swap and you can become as red as a beetroot at my house

Cambridge historically very oversupplied with teachers
Shitemum where are you then?

Beetootoyourself · 31/12/2007 22:17

I promise I am serious!!!

TheOlihantheIvy · 31/12/2007 22:18

Yay . I'll start sending you house details and job ads, shall I?

Shitemum · 31/12/2007 22:19

Beety - you are obviously nuts . Greece in August may be fab - but were you on holiday on a lovely island or all alone with f-all to do while everyone else with any sense/cash had left the country? Were you stuck in a stifling flat with the windows closed and the blinds down from 9am to 9pm and 2 small childen? It is hel, utterly demoralising, just thinking about it depresses me. I did it for 10 years on the trot and now make damn sure I'm on the plane to Scotland for 6 or 7 weeks every July/August.

Oh and it's 15ºC now in that same flat as I type, hotwater bottle on knee....

lucy5 · 31/12/2007 22:19

Well might be nice to have a taste of England. I have only been back for 1 night in four years and I have never been to Wells!
