I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

Thanks cali. I was wondering how she was doing, and realised she hadn't been around in a while.

mamama · 31/07/2007 04:07

Oh, thanks Cali - that is what I thought but the instructions made me think I had to do something more complicate. I'm going to get started on it over the next couple of weeks

Glad you are feeling better colin&caitlinsmummy

Glad you're feeling better c&cm. I swear by peppermint tea. A little chamomile added in is good too.

RE: sausages, how about a grocery store that makes their own? I know that is pretty common in NY where dh is from.

mamama · 02/08/2007 01:15

Hope everyone is ok - are you all ridiculously hot? I have to wear a suit tomorrow and it's going to be 92. A suit, ffs . 92 ffs

Bugger, just burnt my cookies. Why can I never get them right? Would help if DS hadn't 'borrowed' my beeping timer & hidden it somewhere

(can you tell that I am tired and pissed off? )

My fabric should be on its way soon Califrau, then I can begin my quilt, yippeeee.

We get the maple sausages here which are quite nice but i have found a whole load of (wait for it...) WAITROSE sausages and bacon in the freezer department of my local riteway(supermarket) very excited. Cost $9 though but everything is frigging expensive here so $9 is nothing in comparison to the $15 salmon or the $11 minced beef or even the $6 milk (half gallon). How much does McArthur Dairy Vitamin D Milk cost actually in the US? Am i paying a lot more? Also while i am on the subject do the Americans have organic free range eggs. Our eggs come from florida and are def not free range. sometimes we can get organic ones but it just means that they are vegetarian fed chickens (whatever that means - i thought all chickens were vege! ). The other day i tried to find some eggs and all i could find was some with the best before date of 21st June or the 26th of July and i was looking on the 25th July!

barefeete · 02/08/2007 01:42

Cheers for the update mamamma - my stats are: Married DS 22 months and DD 4 months. Been in BVI for 3 months so relative newbee for this side of the world.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 02/08/2007 01:50

Hi barefete, that's funny, my rant of the day was about the price of groceries. It seems like everything is going up, up, up the past few weeks. Store brand non-organic milk is edging up to $4 a gallon, after being half that less than 2 months ago. 18 eggs was something like $2.49 a few weeks ago, and when I went to get some today, it was over $4.

I know you can get organic free range eggs, but here you'd have to go somewhere like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods or Wild Oats to get them, they're not going to be at your average supermarket.

It is in the mid 90's here today. We beat the heat by going to the free movies today, and then went swimming at a friends house. DH is in Vegas still and in meetings all day long. He said it was 105 or something there, but he hasn't even made it outside for the past 36 or more hours.

Say a prayer for Minneapolis tonight ladies please. A bridge has collapsed. Many serious injuries, no doubt deaths

Oh dear, I wondered where that was. I caught the very last of the news cast

barefeete, wal-mart, believe it or not, has started to carry lots of organic items. I have been buying free-range eggs for a while there even before the organics moved in.

SofiaAmes - had no idea you were in LA! How did I miss that?! I went to college in Monroe. Where are you?

alipiggie · 02/08/2007 02:26

Sat here watching the sad news, made me realise tonight how very lucky I am with my new life in CO. Weather's been glorious here today and I've been enjoying the park and the playground. Shall hug my boys extra tight tonight, especially as a school bus was caught up on the bridge as it collapsed. Take care everyone and tell all those close to you how much you love them. Life's way to short.
