I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

Hi all sorry I haven't been about, just saw the frosting discussion here is my no-fail frosting.

1 stick unsalted butter
1 package of cream cheese
2.5 cups of confectioner's sugar
1 tsp of vanilla extract.

make sure the butter and cream cheese are at room temperature, beat them together, add in the vanilla, and slowly add in the sugar. mix it all up, and put whatever you are frosting in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes so the icing can set.

Hello
Just wanted to say I'm back from the US and we found a lovely house in Katy, and can't wait to move over there now.
Same it rained most of the time i was there!!

jabberwocky · 11/07/2007 22:08

Congrats on the house, vixie!

lol at scabberswocky

Marls001 · 12/07/2007 03:28

Vixie - Congrats on the house! We might end up very near; are looking at Memorial neighborhood in Houston.

Did look at a horrible master-planned community in Dallas last weekend (I was very exicted about it, too ) ... Is it just me? Does anyone understand why anyone would pay $590,000 to be in a house that looks like everyone else's on the outside and the inside (same builder) and is right-up-close to the ones on either side?? I just don't get it. But they are selling like mad. ??

jabberwocky · 12/07/2007 04:33

I know, dh and I are mystified by the whole idea. Pretty much our worst case scenario is ending up like that...

MinistryofMamamagic · 12/07/2007 04:42

Oooo, congrats Vixie.

There aren't many places like Marls described here in the city - I think they exist in the 'burbs. Is it not part of the American Dream?

jabberwocky · 12/07/2007 04:49

More like nightmare but yes, the people in the burbs must love them

Boredveryverybored · 12/07/2007 04:54

LOL!! ... how would we EVER live in California??? In debt, I guess

Not too much choice sometimes when you have children ... except for few gem finds it's usually (1) crowded, (2) debt-inducing, (3) in a bad school district, or (4) in the suburbs.
Heck if we didn't have children, we'd live comfortably in urban Houston like we always have (moved to AR when DS1 still a baby)

With 2 rambunctious boys tho, considering the 'burbs.

When I expressed my shock that builder left NO trees, just houses on flat land, and at how close houses were together, builder rep said the closeness to one's neighbors was part of the "lifestyle" they're promoting and chalked my love for trees up to the fact that we came from Arkansas

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 12/07/2007 21:18

Those darn people who live in the suburbs.

jabberwocky · 13/07/2007 01:38

lol, cali, are you going to the midnight book party? I've got costumes ready for me and ds1. eeek! A 4 year old at midnight, what am I thinking

I know, I hadn't even considered it until a friend mentioned it and I started thinking, well, it is the last time, so what the heck. Will probably be kicking myself the day after

DiagonAlipiggie · 13/07/2007 03:38

I'm hoping that my two might be with their father so I can go too . Somehow though gut feeling tells me that I'll be getting into the spirit of it all on Saturday. Going to see the movie tomorrow night though as I'm kid free. Finalised my job details today everyone. Flexi hours to suit and great benefits. Happy chappy in Colorado tonight.

Ali that's great news!

I'm thinking of going to the movie Sunday night. It's at the Drive-in, so if I can convince dh to stay home with ds1 I can head out with ds2 who will promptly fall asleep

jabberwocky · 13/07/2007 13:58

Earlybird, I don't know if your internet connection is still up, but happy traveling tomorrow! Get in touch once you are settled. Dh and I would love to have you all over for a cook-out.

jabberwocky · 15/07/2007 19:49

OMG, have I killed the thread?

alipigwidgeon · 15/07/2007 19:52

Nope you didn't kill it. We're all floating around here still. Is it still hot with you?? Roasting over here today going to get to about 97. He ho. Little kitten's settling in, although I think she may have an cold. So trip to vet tomorrow. Better safe than sorry. Boys love her to pieces. Off to friend's house shortly for chat and beer no doubt and water slide for the boys. Managed to burn the apple in the pan for the crumble been scrubbing it for the last 30mins. Nothing much happening in Colorado at the moment. So all quiet on this pseudo-Western Front.
