Shiny new thread. After an epic visa fuck up we are starting out (again!) in LA in a few weeks. I am English, DH is American (from southern California), DD is 21mo. I am going back to work after several unintentional years out and terrified. No clue what I want to do, which doesn't help.

also how are our east coasters? is everyone keeping warm? I was just looking at the pictures of Massachusetts. Needless to say it all looks somewhat unreal from the land of eternal summer

Snow event was a major annoyance. I left client at 2pm and was VERY lucky to get onto a bus right away. The line for the bus I wanted was miles long with a really short line for the bus going to a different part of town. It turned out the bus I was in line for was cancelled and they let us walk to the front of the line for the bus with the huge line. Those on the bus had been in line for over one hour. Still, leaving client at 2pm saw me get home for 4.30pm.

Hi all and happy new year! We are in DC and the weather hasn't been too bad, despite the snowmaggedon predictions. Did anyone see Jon Stewart the other night? Hilarious parody of US weather reporting...

I am loving that we enrolled DC1 in the British school here. All the public schools close at the drop of a hat when there's even a sniff of snow and the British school prides itself on always staying open. I think quite a few people up on the Hill could learn a lot from the staff there!
