Hi all,
Great Sat afternoon it is then!
We have a 1st birthday party this Saturday but I should be free the following Sat ( think DH is on call that weekend so might have to bring DD - she'd probably sit still for 1/2 an hour or so if she's fed a constant flow of tempting food)
Sorry to hear about your DD2 Eids - pulled elbow, yes VERY common. Usually quite easy to fix, it's a shame you had to go back to the hospital again. Problem is that there are usually no XR changes so they go on clinical exam to decide whether it's fixed or not.
Mymama.... ooooh goooooo onnnnn!

flannelettepyjamas · 10/10/2006 10:33

PS I didn't have a great day either today. I went literally 1/2 blind in my right eye whilst driving the 1 hour to work and decided that I probably had a tumour. Then relaxed a bit and realised that it's probably a visual migraine although I've never had a migraine in my life.
Anyway it's better now.

eidsvold · 10/10/2006 22:58

glad to hear it is better - things like that can freak you out can't they.

The doc yesterday said he felt a clunk when he adjusted dd's elbow and he was more cautious about letting us go until he was satisfied she was using it properly. Dh asked around and said he is a brilliant doc and all the nurses like him - says something if the nursing staff think you are a good doc.

will check the calendar for Sat after - down syndrome awareness week starts fri and goes to following sunday and we have a few events to attend.

eidsvold · 11/10/2006 03:32

c'mon mymamma - check otu the menu coming for the food alone will be worth it - even if we are crap company

OP posts:
mymama · 11/10/2006 09:32

I am sure the company would be great. 4th November would be a good meet-up/xmas meet for you guys. I work Saturdays so will try to make the next one.

flannelettepyjamas · 12/10/2006 10:20

Oooohhhhhh Noooooooo!
I'm away from 3/11 til 3/12!!!
Can you believe it?
Any other suggestions???

eidsvold · 12/10/2006 10:29

December then?!?!?

can I check the calendar later and offer another date?? Just don't want to arrive and have to rush off again as I would have to on a Friday.

OP posts:
flannelettepyjamas · 12/10/2006 21:28

Sure thing.
I'll be back on 3rd Dec and will be a bit jetlagged for a few days then... raring to go
(At least I might have a tummy to show by then!)

Bouj · 12/10/2006 23:41

December?! Hope we can get a date where we are all free for a good chin-wag.

Mymama, none of us have met, so you won't be the only one. Oh, and my first and only MN meetup (before I left London), I was petrified, truly. But ended up being so much fun.

Where are you going FP?

mymama · 13/10/2006 01:59

Might rethink a December meetup. Might have built up a bit of courage by then.

flannelettepyjamas · 13/10/2006 09:59

Go for it Mymama.
I'm going back to the UK for a month.
Must be MAD!
A 16 month old in tow and I'll be 19 weeks pregnant when I leave. And doing the flight alone again.
I'm going to stop over in Singapore on the way out and Dubai on the way back which were the only stopovers I could get ( would have preferred Sing on the way back too). The stopovers are not too expensive luckily. After my last flight experience I just can't face doing it all in one go by myself again.
Anyway, it will be the last time for a while now.
Everyone can come and visit me after this .
I've been trying to go quite regularly while it is (relatively) easy with only 1 in tow. I feel a certain amount of guilt about living so far away from my family with their only grandchild so am trying to assuage that to some extent.
Anyway, I don;t have too much in the way of plans in December so any Saturday would be good with me (except Xmas week, of course).
How about we pick a date now then hopefully we can all come along.
Looking forward to it already

eidsvold · 23/10/2006 07:42

flannelette pjs - we got wiggles tickets in the extra release - dh and I are taking the dds.

OP posts:
eidsvold · 24/10/2006 02:39

what about a sunday - dh is taking dd1 to a 4KQ party for children with sn( only child and one carer allowed) - we could meet at the gardens. 10th December - party is from 11 til 2.

Could we meet at 11 perhaps?

OP posts:
flannelettepyjamas · 24/10/2006 09:05

Yeah, 10th Dec sounds good. I have a 'do' on but not til 4pm so that would definitely suit. I may have to bring DD - depends on DH's work.
Congrats on the Wiggles tickets. We're going on 12th ( I think). When are you going?

eidsvold · 24/10/2006 10:26

we got in the Monday 11th 4pm concert - that was the one we managed to get tickets for last year - dd1 was knackered - almost put her to bed the minute we got home - have dd2 and dh with us this time.

OP posts:
mymama · 28/10/2006 09:33

flannelettepyjamas I have wiggles tickets for Tuesday 12th as well. Very excited as we haven't been before and ds2 is a big fan.

I can't make a Saturday meetup as I work 6-2:30pm. Only day of the week I work so can't really take it off. Have fun though!!

mymama · 28/10/2006 09:34

oops, meant to add if you know anyone who is wanting Wiggles tickets for that Tuesday my friend has 8 spare tickets for the 1:00pm concert.

flannelettepyjamas · 29/10/2006 00:49

Hi Mymama,
Shame you can't make the meetup.
I do know someone who might well be interested in Wiggles tickets for her and her son.
I'll email her and ask.

eidsvold · 29/10/2006 06:21

mymamma - that 10th Dec is a sunday if you are interested in making it!!

OP posts:
mymama · 29/10/2006 07:32

ooops didn't even look at the day just assumed it was a Saturday. Will check the calender and let you know.

flannelettepyjamas the tickets are up the back directly in front of the stage. My friend booked those eight then found some grandstand ones and bought another eight?? So she is now left with the original eight to sell off. Let me know if your friend is interested and I will put her in touch with my friend iykwim

flannelettepyjamas · 30/10/2006 09:06

Mymama, I emailed her today to ask and she's working that day. She's disappointed but hopes to make the nxt tour they do.
Thanks anyway and I do hope you make it on 10th. ( I might see you on 12th anyway!!)

mymama · 30/10/2006 22:11

Thanks flanelettepyjamas. Shame she has to miss it but I am sure there will be many tours to come.

chloeb2002 · 04/11/2006 07:00

Hello just spotted this thread. Not sure if anyone has any idea that may help. I have spent alot of time in sydney and am currently in the uk studying to be a nurse... well enarly finished now! I am coming to brisbane in July and august to do my final placement at the wesley hospital. we wil be staying on bribie island as it is a firm favorite of my DP. our DD will be coming to for the whole 7 weeks and Dp for 4 weeks. i am looking for childcare for the other few. DD is 4, her gp's may come up fom sydney for a week or so, and i have had the possible offer of a friends daughter coming to au pair for the duration. so loking atm at any options. maybe a nursery or day group so she can have some time with her own age group. Looking at buying propert near beerwah the following year. any advise or suggestions greatly recieved! thanks

mymama · 08/11/2006 11:50

Hi chloeb2002. Bribie Island is quite a long way from the Wesley. Probably about 2 hours each way with okay traffic. I am not sure about childcare for the Bribie area but you may possibly get care around Caboolture which is on your way. I am near that area so if you would like me to check things out for you I would be happy to. You might be better to get care closer to the hospital in case of an emergency.

Have you looked into accommodation at Bribie?? Not sure how long it is since your dh has been there but Bribie has experienced a major property boom and houses range up into the millions now so not sure of the rental market.

Beerwah is lovely. Which hospital would you be aiming for if you live in that area?? Caboolture or Nambour public hospitals are closest. Supposed to be a hospital built to service the Sunshine Coast area in next two to three years.

eidsvold · 08/11/2006 21:01

just wanted to echo what mymamma said - could not remember where the Wesley was and now I have seen the UBD map - there are a lot of roadworks etc going on as well which would affect your trip and you do get a lot of commuters coming from bribie and the sunshine coast - often hold ups on the highway.

Again - Bribie has had a surge and real estate can be expensive. Would it not be better to be somewhere like mymamma and I are - very close to Bribie but closer to Brisbane....

home based childcare - might be an option rather than a nursery

might be helpful real estate guide

can't really help with childcare but depending on the area can be difficult to access due to demand. I think if you are comfortable with the au pair idea - would go with that then you are not stressing about trying to find somewhere for your little one.
