I'm afraid I'm the one with the 40degree temp, flu symptoms for the last 2 days and vomiting although the vomiting has only just started now. And we have a birthday dinner party tomorrow night, then on Monday a kiddies birthday party in the morning then on to Auckland to take DD to Disney on ice. Yay for the long weekend

Hope all the poorlies get better soon. Not a nice way to spend a long weekend.

We've got a whole load of not a lot planned for this weekend, and I'm really happy with that.

vvviola · 02/06/2013 06:17

Hope everyone is having a nice long weekend. Weather is lovely too isn't it?

Disney on Ice was bearable (although I felt very sorry for the poor skaters when they did fantastic lifts etc as most of the kids just didn't appreciate it)

I have now reached limits of patience for MIL visit (and DH's reaction to MIL visit - and her reaction to him)

She will be leaving v early tomorrow. (By all accounts setting her alarm for 5:30 so she can leave before we get up don't get me started on that)

frikonastick · 02/06/2013 09:07

Vvv, how long was the show? How much earlier did you get there before the show? We are taking DD tomorrow and im just trying to plan a little because I am still really ill.

Frik - we got there about 2. DH had dropped us down near the ferry terminal and we walked up. There was just enough time for the girls to queue for a piece of Disney marketing I'm not cynical me and for us to get to our seats. There are enough entrances that there was no real queue to get in, although the queues for the stuff were pretty long (although, I went up near the bar area and there was a little spot where you could get cold drinks, bags of sweets & coffee etc with no queue)

It finished at 4:20 (on the button, no encore, no real delay with bowing etc).

It was actually quite ok, considering Grin.

frikonastick · 02/06/2013 10:58

Thanks :-) DD is beside herself with excitement at the princesses. Although, her main thing seems to be that she thinks she will be able to 'cuddle them' am not sure how to shoot that one down......

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend.

We had a fab but exhausting trip to Sydney. DD loved seeing her cousins and we did a tour of animal based attractions. Took our Kelly Tarlton's pass so DD was free and I was half price to the Wildlife place and aquarium.

Sydney is lovely but I was happy to be home. A smaller city suits me just fine.

4 year old jet lag sucks though.

Weekend spent studying for PMP exam which I passed this morning. I am so relieved and happy. First hurdle of the week over. Next I am presenting in Wellington and the Cardiac Society conference at the end of the week. Time to work on the presentation!

Also poor ds1 has succumbed to the fever, cold etc...that seems to be doing the rounds. Am hoping that nobody else gets it (selfishly especially me until after next weekend!)

Ok ladies, I neeeeed your combined wisdom.

The tumble dryer we brought with us is eating our clothes. It's a very very basic one that we had in syria so not massively surprised its not really up to scratch.

Thing is, I have no idea what to get to replace it. Please can you all kindly let me know which ones you use and their pros and cons?

Thanks so much

We don't have a dryer so I can't advise from personal experience. But our local library has copies of Consumer magazine to look at, they review products to find the best and they may have an issue with tumble dryers in - could be worth a look? I don't think Fisher and Paykel stuff is that great tbh - I saw an article saying that reviews had overall found Miele, Asko and Bosch produced the best quality electrical goods. They are pricier though. We have a Miele vacuum cleaner and it's fricking amazing compared to some of the shite we had before

Sibble · 05/06/2013 03:52

Agree F&P overpriced and overrated. When I was buying everything for my new kitchen the man in The Good Guys went round all the F&P goods and told me where off shore they were made - no excuse for the prices they change when they are made in South America, the Philippines and India etc...

We have a Samsung and are happy but it's the first dryer I have every had so have nothing to compare it to.

giantpenguinmonster · 05/06/2013 03:55

We had F and P appliances in most of the temporary places we have lived and IMHO they have all been shite.

giantpenguinmonster · 05/06/2013 03:56

In addition to being shite, the washing machines play a tune when they finish. And again, at intervals until you attend to them. It is very annoying.

frikonastick · 05/06/2013 04:18

Crosses fisher and pykel off list

I was thinking of Bosch or Samsung. DH loving the consumer report thing

I just went to check ours. It's a Simpson (no, I'd never heard of it either!Grin). It's pretty good - I think it was the cheapest one in the shop that had a decent energy rating. It is a bit slow, but that could be because I tend to use it on the lowest setting because I'm afraid of destroying all my clothes! Grin

Oh shit. Has anyone invented a teleporter yet Confused

Just read an email from one of my dearest friends. (DD2's godmother, my bridesmaid). She's just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Mastectomy, chemo & radio followed by a breast reconstruction.

There is apparently a pretty good survival chance for the type she has, but still. Shit. Confused I'm just too far away for my liking. Almost everywhere else I've lived the credit card would have been out and I would have been able to visit for a weekend.

Oof. Am really thrown by this. She's a year younger than me.
