(Sorry, please excuse the swearing. It's milder than what I was yelling in the car earlier Blush)

giantpenguinmonster · 05/06/2013 05:53

Vvv- I'm sorry to hear your news. But be aware that this type of cancer has a really good survival rate- up to 90% IIRC. I know a number of women who have had it- several who had it 30 years ago- and survived and even gone on to have kids afterwards. There are a lot of survivors out there. You often just don't know they've had it.

Tis still shite though.

frikonastick · 05/06/2013 05:58

Vvv, you have my every sympathy. I second everything that penguin said. I do understand though, that however positive the outlook, the diagnosis and all that comes with it is far reaching and life changing. Crossing fingers for your friend, and holding your hand too xxx

Sorry to hear about your friend vvv

Sibble · 05/06/2013 20:18

VVV thinking of you as well.

vvviola · 05/06/2013 21:47

Thank you all. And thanks for the positivity frik and penguin. It's useful to be reminded of it. We chatted by email yesterday and she seems to be staying positive and I know she has a very close-knit family and lots of friends back home so she'll have plenty of support.

I have unilaterally decided that my job will be distraction, so she's going to get lots of pictures of the girls and lots of stories about her minx of a goddaughter. It's about the only useful thing I can do from here. Confused

Absolutely, there is nothing better than feeling, and being, connected to the people you love in an everyday way.

OP posts:
giantpenguinmonster · 06/06/2013 01:40

Yep, I agree. You can never have too many offers of help, a shoulder to cry on or little pick me ups.

I'll be thinking of you Vvv and feel free to chat here about it. It can be hard being the support crew.

AngryBeaver · 06/06/2013 05:57

Aw, vvv, that is really shit (and your swearing really is mild...feel free to through a few mother fuckers in there if it helps?i think I once wrote a post on here that said nothing more than FUUUCK, several times. It was quite satisfying)

So sorry to hear about your friend.

Also know lots of survivors.

One of the "better" types of cancer to get, if you know what I mean?
But still, horrifying for her and all that love her Hmm

Your plan of distraction is wise and good Smile

Sooooooo, DH saw the landlord today and he told him that he is in negotiations to sell the house to developers as he also owns the place next door. Basically he will tell us in a month if the deal goes through. It was very nice of him to tell us as he doesn't have to, and we still have a while to go on the current lease, so at least we know what's going on, but I am really really REALLY hoping the deal falls through and we get to stay! It's awful to wish bad luck on someone else to benefit yourself though isn't it...... bugger bugger bugger

OP posts:
giantpenguinmonster · 07/06/2013 02:33

Bugger, that's a pain. When does your DH start his job? I'm guessing you've been house hunting!

I finally have my first NZ job. I'm chuffed to bits and start on Monday. It's all a bit scary as the other work I've done has been from home and now I have to commute across the city.

Can anyone give me any insights into office hours in NZ? The job seems to be flexible with 8 hours to be worked between 8am and 6pm.

WhatSheSaid · 07/06/2013 02:48

Congrats gpm. I've never worked in an office in NZ so I'm no use Grin. Are you commuting north, south, west? If the hours are flexible I would go with times to avoid the worst of the traffic e.g. 8-4.30 or 9.30-6. And also what fits in best with childcare hours, will you be using a daycare?

giantpenguinmonster · 07/06/2013 03:11

Thanks WSS. I'm commuting from East to the West of the city. Did a trial run at 8.10 yesterday and it took 40 mins including drop off which didn't seem too bad. DD goes to nursery part time already so we have just upped her hours. The current plan is for me to do drop off's and DH to do pick ups.

frikonastick · 07/06/2013 03:17

Congrats penguin! Nope, not been house hunting yet, well browsing on the Internet but that's it. DH and I had actually decided to stay renting for at least a couple of years, so hahahahahahaha! I guess the universe has other ideas Grin DH starts on the 17th. Still can't quite believe it

giantpenguinmonster · 07/06/2013 05:04

Oh crap. I just found a single larvae in my pantry cupboard. Flour is okay but where the fuck did it come from?

BBQWidow · 07/06/2013 05:25

Congratulations on the job! That's awesome.

AngryBeaver · 08/06/2013 05:44

Well done on the job!

Right, I am royally fucked right off!

We've just had a nice family walk, up to the top of a very steep long hill at the sports park
Dd's brand new trainers were a bit big, so she left them and her socks at the bottom.
We were only going to the top.
There was a footy game going on at the bottom.
We were passed by a guy on a moped (who said hello)
When we got to th bottom...the fucking trainers were gone!
We asked around and it looks like that guy on the moped took them!

What kind of fucking scumbag would you have to be to steal a child's shoes??
How will he sleep tonight?!

Dd was beside herself and wanting to know why he would take them, why does he want her shoes??

We drove around looking for him, but in a way, I'm glad we didn't see him...not sure what I would have done.

I know it's petty theft.
But he has stolen from my innocent child.

I want to scratch his thieving eyes out!!

vvviola · 08/06/2013 08:04

Oh AB that's truly crappyConfused your poor DD. I'd be very unimpressed.

Penguin I don't know about the larva - I'd imagine I'd be scrubbing the kitchen for days. Shudder.

Spoke to my Mum this morning, which reminded me of the less pleasant aspects of small town Ireland. "Did you know about D? (My friend) X told me that Y told her that she's due for surgery on the 15th and Z said... etc etc" Mum isn't usually a gossip, and it's mostly out of concern for D as we've been friends since we were teenagers so she's very fond of her, but it did help mitigate the "I want to be home" feeling a bit Wink

Self indulgent moment - back from Wellington conference and won a prize for my presentation - havn't got the cheque yet but should be $1,000 Grin but more to the point when it looks like there will be people laid off at work shortly hopefully this week's good outcomes will count for something. All in all a very good and exciting week in the Sibble household - what next!
